We had done the same thing a few years earlier for Robocop and thought no sci-fi cyborg/robot movie could ever top that. We were so wrong. This is still in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. It still holds up today, but in 1991 it completely re-wrote the rules on what you could do with a movie.

    at 24:00 its actually the future that always existed, Skynet sending back the terminator directly leads to the creation of Skynet.
    It's called the Boot-Strap Paradox. Pretty much an event only happened because someone from the future came and caused it to happen in the first place.
    Basically says that if time travel is possible, it already happened and we are already living in the timeline as a result of what already happened because of what the travelers already did. In simpler words you can't change the past, since it already happened.

      It's a pity that they didn't continue on from Salvation with two more movies. The final Terminator film would have ended with Kyle being sent back to 1984 and ends there. With its sequel being the first movie. Making the Terminator series an ouroboros franchise.

  • @kizunadragon9

    Robert Patrick the guy that played the T-1000 actually has a limp in Real life from a motorcycle accident. When they got done and he saw the final film he was amazed that the computer in the CG scenes captured his limp while he was walking so it really looked like him.
    and the reason Eddie Furlong's (john Connor) voice was squeaking is Puberty decided to hit him hard right when this movie was being made. So his voice cracked a lot
    for the orderly who licked Sara's cheek. Most people just think hes being a creeper but there is actually a reason for it. he was checking for a reaction. Nerual typical people would have tried to move or get away or wipe it off but her just laying there indicates she was moving into a catatonic state, but as we know she was just faking it.

  • @herrzimm
    @herrzimm 3 года назад

    Fun Fact(s): Robert Patrick took special Yoga classes AND special firearms training before filming began. He learned how to breath while running in a way that doesn't look like he is exerting himself, as well as how to fire weapons with both hands AND reload without looking at his guns while doing it.
    He was able to run so fast without looking like he was exerting himself, that they had to do the 'running in the garage scene" 2 times.... because the FIRST time, he outran both the camera crew and the stuntman on the motorcycle and caught him. (Basically, the stunt guy was doing around 15-20mph and figured that would be fast enough in the space given to film, without knowing that Patrick could cover that ground faster sprinting (around 20-25mph) over the distance. Keep in mind that while this is indeed "fast" for humans sprinting in a short distance, they aren't built to keep this speed up for long or over a long distance.
    Still, the point is. Patrick caught everyone unprepared and they had to do the scene a second time going even faster than before.

  • @uosdwiSrdewoH
    @uosdwiSrdewoH 3 года назад +2

    The scene where they take out the chip is pretty amazing. You're watching the extended edition. I know because the original doesn't have the Terminator try to smile, or the dream where Kyle Reese tells her to get John and they take out the scene with the chip which probably took a lot to set up right. In the original the Terminator just says the more he's around humans the more he learns and they cut right around that bit. The camera is behind a fake Arnie, with John on the left and Linda Hamilton's sister on the right. There's no mirror. Arnie is facing the camera with a stand in for John standing just out of view and Linda Hamilton facing the camera. Then they have to match the exact movement so it looks like they're looking into a mirror. If you didn't know you probably wouldn't even notice. It's brilliant.

    "I love Sarah!"
    Damned right. She reminds me of my ex-wife. Total bad ass. Strong women rock.

    They pumped up the special effects in this one, it was the most expensive movie made at the time with a budget of around 100 million$.

      It just seemed normal to me. I never noticed either. There’s going to be a vending machine. Why not have it be Pepsi or Coke instead of something generic? Generic would be what would seem weird.

      now that you mention it, i've seen it so many times (extended version too) but i have never seen that scene where the t-1000 finds a box labelled " messages from mom" in the house. where did that scene come from?

    The scene where Sarah gets beaten by the orderly was torture because the actor playing him was reluctant to hit Linda Hamilton. However, she still had to shoot her dropping to the floor on her knees for at least seven takes, so she was in a load of pain. So, when the time came to shoot Sarah's escape, she literally BROKE the guy's nose (and it's in the film too)

    Linda Hamilton really did the lock picking scene. She wanted to make it look as real as possible..,
    Some countries deleted the lock picking scene to prevent people learning how it’s done.

      Lock picking is actually terrifyingly easy, anybody could learn to do it in about 15 minutes. Once you realize how easy it is you'll never trust locks again.

    One of my all time favorite movies. Glad to see you're watching the version that wasn't in theaters. They cut out a lot of scenes, including the cpu removal scene.

      yes , v good points, I guess Cameron was told to cut a few scenes, i never saw the R Patrick scene of him looking over the kid's bedroom and the one where sarah was ready to destroy the chip, wow THAT definitely should have been in the theatre version as I think thats a bad mistake

    Robert Patrick practiced not blinking or showing that he is breathing, even when shooting for this movie because he said a robot would have no reason to blink or breathe. I think the camera caught him blink once or maybe twice in the entire movie, and even when he is chasing the car on foot you can see his shest and mouth are dead still, and even if you don't directly notice his lack of blinking or breathing, it does help to pass of that robot persona

    Funny you should mention that the timeline is altered. This is consistent across all of the Terminator movies and shows that Skynet is actually winning.

  • @TheCastellan
    @TheCastellan 3 года назад +1

    23:50 the Cyberdine company wants to reverse engineer the computer the Terminator had, to make their own computers....kinda like Roswell.
    This is a paradox, sending the first terminator to the past insured skynet's own creation.

    The T-1000 touching everything was an idea that much like the T-800 Scanned with its eyes like cameras in T1, the T-1000 probed with its hands.
    (Probably why the T-X scanned fluids with its tongue in T3!)

    Fun fact. John Connors foster mom is played by Janette Goldstein. The same actress who played private Vasquez in Aliens. She is so good at changing her appearance and accent that you never recognize her twice.
