it does look like a triple and i think it’s also because she’s basically doing 2.5 flips because she blocks from a handstand position on the table
It honestly is 3 flips but the first flip is considered part of the entrance. That’s why they only call it a double.

You don't even have to know who she is or how difficult that move is. All you have to do is look at the body language of the athletes in the background.

You know it just dawned on me that for those gymnasts who retire but aren’t dealing with injuries could really become kickass stunt women! They spend their entire lives learning how to fall, how to lessen impacts and how to get back up!
Some of them do. Some do college gym then become Circe du soleil performers or stunt women
Brandy Johnson (Sydney Johnson-Scharpf's mum) became a stunt woman before opening up her gym.
It’s a common path for people who do it in college, because a stuntman with a degree can become a coordinator easily.

Mitch Gaylord, a male gymnast on the 1984 gold-winning olympic team, was the stunt double for Robin in Batman and Robin. I don't know of any female gymnasts though.

Lol Simones double pike is so much cleaner than the example of the men's.
That's why she is the best gymnast in the world. She makes the most difficult moves look easy, compared to the few men that were ever able to do them. She has grace and sorta floats and flies and bounces and the men that do them seem to struggle and be sorta clumsy looking and stiff.
@@Goldenretriever-k8m Yeah she’s such an amazing talent. I watched the entire ‘60 minutes’ segment of her and she said she still surprises herself with the things she can do. She’ll just throw a skill she’s never done before and nails the technique naturally.
It’s so awesome to live in this day and age and get to experience the gymnastics world in the time where Simone Biles is active in it (dominates it), she is honestly someone we’ll talk about with our grandchildren. What an amazing human being!

@@Goldenretriever-k8m to be fair, it probably looks more graceful for women because most are shorter than the men who compete. in gymnastics, you have the upper advantage if you're shorter (and have the right muscle definition). you'll have better power-to-weight ratio & lower moment of inertia - which is probably why accomplishing new, more challenging moves comes more easily for Biles. she has _the most power_ that I've ever seen in a gymnast.
don't get me wrong, she's most definitely extremely driven, hard-working, and talented to get to where she is. but to me, she is for gymnastics what Usain Bolt was to sprinting. their bodies are ideally/naturally built for their respective sport and they just needed to hone in those skills to become the GOATs

seriously! I've been watching this gymnast for quite sometime and I'm totally awed by her strength but even more awed by her modesty in her accomplishment....this is a true sports person and she reflects what is the basic requirements of a sport.
Practice, and humbleness.....in my book that's a recipe for a winner.
She is an inspiration to all who don’t like being told ‘you won’t be able to do it’. What a woman!x
This vault along with her Biles vault (half on double twist off) and she could be competitive in the men's vault finals.
She needs to be able to land it without a 3 foot step first.

Simone Biles is a living legend. She never ceases to amaze. Now, can we also, please, take note of her beautiful leo? I notice there's another gymnast wearing one, too. Is it a club leo? Anyway, I can't wait to see her perform in the Olympics, no matter what their leo looks like ( I know it won't be this one-just saying, before all the confused comments 😉).

Men land deeper as they have relatively longer torsos than women
Christian Thomas is 5 10. In other words 1’ 2” taller than Biles and at least 5” taller than most other male gymnasts. He has the power to pull it around. Now if we go back the originator of this vault, he performed it on the old school vaulting horse lengthwise and was tiny compared to Thomas.

Believe it or not, judges actually prefer a Thomas style stuck landing to falling on your back (or lunging forward for a -0.3).

@@ashleyrocke4144 Men really have an advantage with their vaulting table being set higher than women’s. They still get great height even with subpar blocks.
What a travesty to gymnastics history if the 2020ne olympics are completely cancelled and Biles is not able to add to her already GOAT resume (no one comes close).

Just insanely good. I saw a video of her working a Yurchenko layout full, and she literally finished this vault way above the height of the table and floated down to the pit, i.e. stalled it out on purpose. She could have done a laid out full, back out...

Just doing a Yuchenko with nothing else on it, is as intimidating as jumping out of a plane.
First you are doing 15+ mph momentum and then completely blind, you do a backflip onto a VERY-MUCH-NOT-MOVING vault and slamming your hands into it so hard that the rotation and momentum will be enough to rotate your entire lower body upwards, putting extreme forces through your arms and wrists at that moment. If your hands are not on point, they'll slip and if you don't already break your wrists, your head will fly into the vault at full speed with concussion at least and maybe a broken neck if unlucky.
True courage and no fear needed for a commited vault move like that!

Honestly, I think this vault is safer than the Amanar where you have a chance of landing short and blowing out a knee. But then again, Simone makes every crazy skill she does look so easy. Hell, I'd let her use a fluffy mat in competition just for the difficulty factor!
I am not sure James. Melissanidis had his ankles wrapped sooo much because of the pounding on his landings.
@@juanantoniomoreno3409 That's why she wouldn't be landing it on a hard mat very often. Melissanidis always had something taped, it wasn't just the pounding from vault landings. Training 20 years ago wasn't as precautionary as it is now.
This vault is not safer. You can't do a timer on it nor bail out of it. When you go; you go. I think it was Mackayla Maroney who said that you can't 'take it easy' because you'll die if you do. She wasn't allowed to train it for competition by Marta. Glad Simone seems to have been given the green light! But when she does it on a hard mat...those ankles.

I dont know why but as a former Gymnastics instructor, I love seeing when gymnasts or anyone throw their arms back for a safety fall instead of trying to catch themselves. ive spent too long catching kids from breaking their elbows or hands 😂😂

I just wonder what it will be like when she has to train and land on hard surfaces repeatedly . I hope she can absorbed the force and not break something. I don't see the benefit when she scored so well on her other vaults. She so lucky to have a long career due to no major injuries. Good luck.

Many years ago there was Nadia Comaneci …now I think she would blush if she see the incredible Simone Biles what a powerful performance !
there were other rules, Nadia has a normal functional body for those rules, probably Simone in the seventies-eighties would not have been a top athlete, even if she took away a lot of muscle mass.
Possibly the only gymnast in history were even at practice all the people in the gyms eys are glued on Simone's workout.

How does anyone else compete when she puts up Biles 1 and 2 on vault followed by the other US women throwing out Chengs and Amanars. Like holy crap. Her as an individual and the US team is so dominant on vault and floor it's unthinkable that anyone else could top them with just that - then you add in a Kara (hopefully ring leap issues handled), a Riley, and/or a Chellsie into the mix... it's impossible for anyone else to keep up.
