This kinda stunned me a little and took me back to thinking about when I was young. Ever since I was a kid (and to this day) whenever I was on the phone, no one could tell if I was male or female. This gave me something to think about as to why I was always called Mr. or Miss. (I'm gender fluid so I guess it helps a little?) I totally want this voice, now, for my Alexa app at home. 😊
Unfortunately, the opening part about the pitch is a bit misleading and even non-sensical as pitch is not the primary component of what gets people's voices gendered as masculine or feminine. You can have a voice hoovering at a pitch of 110Hz that sounds feminine and a voice that is around 180Hz and sounds masculine - it's a fact. The reason for that is that the primary anatomical components that determine how the voice is gendered are 1) the shape of the vocal tract and 2) vocal weight (the way vocal folds come together) and those, in turn, are not about the fundamental frequency, but about the relative strength of harmonics produced alongside the pitch.
I noticed not only is the voice in the neutral zone but it also goes higher and lower at times so if you start thinking oh that sounds kind of female then it gets lower and you go oh nevermind and it kind of has that pattern so thats interesting
FYI to anyone reading: vocal gender is overwhelmingly determined by the size/configuration of the larynx & oropharynx (which affects the brightdark timbre of the voice), as well as the closed quotient of the vocal folds (which affects the 'thickness'/buzziness of the sound production). Pitch (fundamental frequency) is an auxiliary characteristic; it is quite possible for a voice at 130 Hz pitch, for instance, to have unmistakeably feminine character.

I've always been fascinated by Scarlett Johansson's voice. I recognize it as a female voice but it has deepness to it that could make it a bit more genderless. Maybe it's her speech patterns as well
Well yes, if they decided to distinguish only between feminine and masculine it will be likely many hear it more feminine, through different cultures androgynous people were typically(because of being a minority and having words like "androgynous" not being in the lingo of your average person caused by it being uncommon and also tabooed at times) crammed in with women if they weren't recognised for their own ,because of the idea of not being man/manly enough and not having any other descriptive category other than "women" left, also because commonly as women age more masculinized physical qualities start showing (thickening of the voice in particular) however rarely masculine enough to become considered men .
It's a nice voice, but I think any of the recorded voices by the non-binary peeps should be considered gender-less. So if or when we start getting more 'genderless' voice assistants, I hope there will be a good range and variety of voices. That's true progress.
Gender neutral voices can be great for giving a character flexibility or mystery on that aspect. This can be used as a way to tackle or play with society-placed gender roles, since not knowing someone’s gender would make the associated connotations to either gender unplaced. Plus, it allows any traits or hobbies newly shown about the character to be more of a surprise since they wouldn’t be expected to have them, with the gender being unknown. It’s pretty fun to mix and match these usually stereotyped traits, and I’ve seen characters who follow the questionable gender route create interesting scenes: In one scene the character revealed that they didn’t like the pressure of being one or the other for they were neither, a nonbinary, and they felt that people sometimes forget that; in another scene a child character never revealed their gender but would often say they are one gender or the other for the advantages of being that gender (saying they are a girl to use the woman’s restroom and they say they’re a boy to play rough sports). Furthermore, if the character has never directly revealed their gender and has the gender-neutral voice/looks/etc., the author can change/finalize the gender of the character if wanted and it wouldn’t seem as much as a big switch or surprise because the voice would still fit. Alternatively, this type of voice could work great when spying since the person wouldn’t need to worry much about restrictions due to gender since their voice can fit for either one, and if they have an androgynous body to go with it and available bathroom stalls, they could even pretend to be any gender of their choosing, giving them even more flexibility. They could go in as a soldier ready for duty or a maid serving tea, a manager giving strict orders or a caretaker for children, and they could even decide on which gender could be best for their goal depending on the target group’s reactions to gender if it’s notable.

it's technically an androgyous/androgyne voice (being literal). while 145hz is male range, id like to see what the average they are actually hitting. 175 is like the top of the 'androgyous zone' with 145 kinda being like...25% into the male range. typical is like what? 150s-80s? id say this is a masculine-androgyous voice, but since the average is we'll say 100, most wont necessarily say its male, but a deep feminine voice... my voice average is literally is what this person said, general average 152 (min 136/173); min 113/max 289. so obviously i can hit very high female hz but i can hit relatively low male hz. this range is male androgyous (mostly male), but i have some feminine spikes. i wouldnt really call it androgyous but that could be my anxiety/dysphoria talking. that said, i've *never* been mistaken for male. its always been taken as a feminine voice, unless i sound more tired and talking really low/volume low, the listener might not tell, but in person or on phone, never really been seen as male, even though a few have said its "neutral" or "androgyous".

If genderfluid or non binary was a voice
(before you come for my throat im genderfluid)
11 out of 10 humans will recognise this as a Female voice.
Big Boi I thought it sounded more male tbh
@@janine3732 listen hard carefully To thé timbre not pitch it sound like a mix of à High male and low female combined
It's a nice voice, but I think any of the recorded voices by the non-binary peeps should be considered gender-less.
So if or when we start getting more 'genderless' voice assistants, I hope there will be a good range and variety of voices. That's true progress.
This is legit just my voice with a robot filter
i wish my voice sounded like that :(
Genderless literally gender neutral or androgynous mean High male and low female . timbre is the key not pitch
A genderless voice could only exist through artificial means….
Still sounds female to me. The words sounds quite soft and whispery in places that makes my brain just scream 'female voice'.
Q...Q for q u e e r✨(in my opinion)
Buy why though?
Some innovations seems odd at the beginning and then we discovered uses for them.
but I truly don't get the point of this invention.
It would nice for a digital assistant to be gender neutral. Also I wish I could talk like that!
Must everything have a point?
@@puppymcpupster1570 hmm, these are valid and good uses for it that I didn't consider, thanks!
I am blessed everyday that I have an absolute androgynous voice. Its more rounded out than this one, (not as.. Sharp sounding? More aah then ehh) and when I have videos of me speaking online ppl literally have no idea what I am tee hee.
Me: I'm tired of people trying to label me, and telling me who I should be. I'm non-binary now.
Society: Ladies and gentlemen, we found the mathematical formula for the perfect nonbinary voice.
Me, and super low voice: Oh no...
you could say that that’s what average human sound like
I kind of got a 40 year old woman, and a 20 year old high pitched male. Just going back and forth. I guess it does sound genderless
okay now how to speak in a genderless voice tutorial now please
What's interesting is that this voice sounds so youthful. I wonder if that was intentional or a bi product of gender neutrality.
it's technically an androgyous/androgyne voice (being literal).
while 145hz is male range, id like to see what the average they are actually hitting.
I’ve always believed Cher has a non-binary signing voice -but, perhaps it’s my perception. This is very interesting!
i came here to learn how to voice act, not to be jealous of a robot ;^;
Genderless mean Androgynous voice or gender neutral voice . Correct this voice is right it's sound like a mix of a light tenor Male and a deeper than female Contralto simultaneously mixed to get a gender neutral tone
The talk starts at 1:40
It sounds vaguely male but like a teenage boys voice that's about the deepen
