@FBI Alypstick Sorry man, but even paired with EoE, I can't like these last two episodes. The way that everyone just so blatantly vents their own frustrations with themselves and just *tells* the audience what makes them so self-deprecating; I just can't take it seriously. If you like 'em, go for it. My main issue is that for as complex as an idea that the Evangelion set up the Instrumentality to be, this just feels way too organized; as if Anno literally brought his characters in for an interview like Joaquin Phoenix in 'The Master.'
What makes End of Evangelion feel that much better to me by comparison is how surreal and dreamlike the second half becomes in wake of the Instrumentality. You hear everyone's voices, but it's very clear that you're only viewing it through the lens of Shinji's perspective, which really adds to the sensation of not really having a full grasp of your being while all your thoughts and emotions are felt equally by those around you. *Really think* about what it'd be like to wake up among the sea of all life on Earth's collective consciousness intertwined to become one. It's fucking insane.

@@quicklyform5162 I actually feel like both the last two episodes and EoE are each happy endings in their own right. The last two episodes being where Shinji learns that his reality is and always will be in his own hands and that it's up to him to decide how his life plays out, and then in contrast, EoE delivers a very similar message except a bit more bittersweet; Shinji deciding he'd rather put up with the despair he faces in the real world rather than develop his own fabricated reality inside the Instrumentality, instead of simply realizing how much life has in store for him if he just decides to live happily like in the last two episodes.

I loved these episodes, but people want a more gory horror or maybe a final fight scene because they are only capable of visualizing these themes instead of the true horror within. Man it pained me to see a comical and independent strong character stripped down to the most vulnerable remains.

@@swissidol8403eoe only works because of these episodes. it has a lot of analogies and metaphors, and those, as figurative language, must allude to something. on these episodes we are learning what eoe will allude to. to be honest the exposition doesn't bother me as it is earned (I'm genuinely interested in learning about these characters) and it has artistic merit. although we have the issues directly communicated with us, the sequence is still dreamlike and disjointed, and this creates a flow that wouldn't be possible in a regular monologue or dialogue. for me both 25/26 and eoe are complementary, I can't take one without the other

Damn as a teen watching these segments I liked them, but they felt so dry compared to the rest of the show that they stood out so much for the tail end of things. Coming back to it as an adult that's had lots of self reflection, and rumination on the negative aspects of their life you hang on to every word and empathize with how vulnerable they all are. EVA is an amazing ride no matter where you watch it in life, but it's seems to become more potent and understandable the older and more experienced you get. I know i've sat and meditated countless times asking very similar questions and seeing how the animation team decided to represent such inner turmoil leaves you speechless taking it all in.

  • @areko-chan

"I shouldn't cry; I shouldn't act spoiled." (Sub, misato) that line really spoke to me. Because sometimes I get worked up over things, which spirals into me thinking that things that upset me aren't big enough for me to actually be upset; that other people have it worse than me, and me crying and being sad makes me the most spoiled shit of child ever. I feel like I should just shut up and be happy because I'm not a victim of abuse, war or any other trauma inducing events; or that I'm not greatfull enough. And I'm happy, but sometimes I get mad at myself because I can't tell if I'm truly happy or not even tho I know should be. Sometimes I'll be mad at things that I feel ppl with real issues would be disappointed & pissed at me for being upset over, and I'll just start crying in middle of night again, leading me to thinking I'm a bratty kid, leading to an endless cycle. I feel like I get mad too easily; I feel like I'm a bad person. and then I get worried that if anyone saw this side of me they'd abandon me; yet I feel like I'd deserve to be abandoned, only to fear it. I'll think of situations where I reacted to things, and worry that purposefully overreacted for attention. Which dosen't make sense; bc I have a good life, ppl give me attention, yet for some reason I felt the need to act loudly even tho it didn't bother me that much at the time. I'm afraid everyone hates me and is just being around me to be polite. I try to forget it by telling myself my life is good, and my "problems" aren't big enough to be sad over; others have it worse, they deserve to be sad, I don't. It gets to the point i wish I had a true reason to be upset bc I don't think I do. I'm scared of people leaving me if they how I truly am.

My parents always liked to remind me of how, when I was delivered to this world, an air strike went down near the proximity of the hospital I was born in, in 5AM. I never really thought of it as something sad or dramatic; just funny. It's like a "yeah welcome to the world kiddo" and it always gets a chuckle out of me. Still, I never found a reason to not be grateful. Being grateful isn't an obligation, but a choice you make. Even though I technically lived through war, I still, too, had thought of those who had it or are having it worse than me; it's human nature, and a coping mechanism. We humans inherently love simplicity, genuineness and spontaneity. We don't like money because it's beautiful, we just like it because we need it, otherwise, it's an ugly yet necessary thing in our civilization. I find my comfort in simplicity, these simple pleasures of life. You don't really need to look down on anyone else to feel grateful, and you don't really need to feel bad for not feeling grateful. After all, if humans were really grateful *just* to be alive, we'd still be living in caves, 'cuz why not, we're alive. But that's human nature that tries to guide us forward in the form of being selfish and greedy and ungrateful, and also tries to ensure our survival and well-being in the form of anxiety and worry and fear. All humans are like this, deep down, every human is the same. Looking up or looking down at other humans like you, will logically give off emotions of lowliness or haughtiness. Humans prefer an equilibrium, like, just about everything in existence. Bit staying but it reminded me of Le Chatelier's principle; "if a dynamic equilibrium is disturbed by changing the conditions, the position of equilibrium shifts to counteract the change to reestablish an equilibrium". Everyone of us needs an equilibrium, in life and relationships, and even with yourself. You're not lower nor higher than anyone else. We, too, have worries of being lacking something, of not being enough, of disappointing those around us, of not achieving something significant, of being just another creature to be born and to die...
All these emotions, thoughts, situations, and whatnot, it's what makes humans truly special among Earth's other creatures. We're complex. I'm complex. You're complex.

No one is probs going to read this and its for the better just need somewhere to vent without all the pity attached to it when i actually do.
i watched Evangelion for the first time last year, and as the show went on i saw myself more and more and more in Misato, and it shows me how i was stripped of my childhood and teen years, even if im still a teenager reading people's comments about how when they went back to this scene as a young adult.
i havent even graduated high school yet.
Sometimes im afraid of myself, afraid of certain aspects of myself, ashamed of the things ive done, ashamed of the relationships ive had, even if they were predatory alot of times im still ashamed because i feel like its my fault, ashamed and afraid that maybe, just maybe i took advantage of all the men ive been in relationships with just to attempt to fill that void in my soul.
always putting on a mask for everyone, the me who's confident, believes in herself, is happy, etc., im always so mentally unstable, lol i rlly shouldnt identify with someone thats a decade older than me.

    • @Emi-md3ed

Episodes 25 and 26 happen at the same time as The End Of Evangelion.
The Human Instrumentality and Human Complementation is what we see in Episodes 25 and 26. These two happen when Rei (with Adam inside) fuses with Lilith and the Third Impact begins.
The "Human Instrumentality Project" consists on two steps.
The Human Instrumentality is the first step: All living beings lose their AT Fields due to Rei-Lilith's Anti-AT Field. The AT Fields are what keep living beings as individuals, so when they loose it, they loose their individual form and become LCL (the promordial soup of life, the orange juice). Once they've all loosen their individual form, all the souls are taken by Rei-Lilith to start with the next step: Human Complementation.
Human Complementation is the process of melting all the minds (souls) together to become one being. That's the objective SEELE always followed; to manually make Humanity evolve into a new, perfect form of life. They believed that what kept Humanity from that objective was the AT Fields (Absolute Terror Fields), which existed only because of the primal fear that Humans have for other Humans. Melting all minds together would (according to SEELE's theory) eliminate that primal fear forever, letting Humans fully understand each other. Sadly, they were wrong, and therefore the Human Complementation failed.
The Human Complementation failed because of two things:
      1) Shinji stopped it. When he doubts about if that's the right way to do things, he is deciding to stop Complementation. He realizes that knowing other Individuals as he did in the past is what he prefers because being one with them didn't make him happy. We get to see this exact same thing on Episode 26, when Shinji accepts himself as no more or less than himself. The whole "Congratulations" scene in Episode 26 is Complementation being stopped; we see it from outside when Unit 01 gets out of Rei-Lilith's eye in TEoEva.
      2) Human Complementation was destined to fail. As we see in Episodes 25 and 26, Humans were not understanding each other and "Complementing", because all Humans are different and have a different way to see and understand reality. When Humans share their minds they don't find the peace SEELE thought they were going to find; instead, they start intruding inside each other's minds to judge and cause pain. So, the whole Human Instrumentality Project fails.
I may have exceeded my answer a bit... But basically, no, Episodes 25 and 26 do not happen after TEoEva, they happen at the same time. They're just different points of view of the same event.

seriously though, it's interesting that for all that "Misato uses men to fill the void in her life" commentary, she admits to Kaji that he was the only guy she ever slept with. When they're together in bed after Shinji came back from being turned into LCL, Kaji says that he didn't know that Misato still smoked. She says "Only after doing this, so you're the only one who knows".
