Is this method better than using a Radiator Drain point ? I’m always concerned that using the valves results in a weep over time. I’d rather fix a drain point than buy a Vaillant replacement part.

A drain valve is fine. However if your doing some work on the boiler and only want to drain the boiler, it is better to use the boiler drain off point. I get your point completely though. You fiddle with the valve on the boiler and then you get a leak...so annoying. Vaillant are generally pretty good though but others are not 👍

What size spanner do you need for that small nut? Tried pliers and socket set none of those fit and not strong enough to plier it, if you can give me the exact spanner size please

Off the top of my head, i think I use an 8mm spanner but a small adjustable does the trick as well👍

@@northwestgascertificates absolutely smashed it, 8mm was the right size, did the job anyway, fiddly things they are but all sorted now, bit of hose pipe and bucket pressure sitting comfortably at 1 bar now, was at 3.2 touching almost end of the red dial. No idea how pressure got so high, just looking at everything to make sure heating is efficient and cost is kept down, could just be ofgem increasing prices but my god our boiler eats money 😂

Nae fekker apart fae you heating professionals have got an 8mm spanner they've ever used lol!! I found that a decent set of long noses pliers can get it, cos I was stumped up until I tried them, the smallest spanner I use is a 13mm! Had the baby sockets out with extensions to reach it but a 9mm just spins and an 8mm is too tight! @@northwestgascertificates

Anyone know why my boiler pressure keeps shooting up? Reduced it 3 times in 2 days but just goes straight back up when I put the heating on

The expansion vessel inside the boiler will need re pressurising. Because its flat, when you put the heating on, the water in the radiators, pipework and boiler expands with the heat. Theres no where for it to expand against hence the pressure goes through the roof and you risk bursting a pipe...just till its sorted turn the temperature down on the boiler (radiator temperature)

This gave me a good idea. I released water from outside instead and it dropped
