These fragrances help me lift my mood and make me feel like I am back in a safe place both physically and mentally. This is of course just what works for me personally and am no mental health professional by any means. I am just sharing with you how perfumes work for me and how they help me. I do hope we all find our own personal best way to feel and be happy. Each person's path is different but I do hope that my personal experience maybe helps others to also feel better. I feel immediately comforted and emboldened by any smell that reminds me of my mum such as Chanel’s No.5 or YSL’s Black Opium.
I tend to wear Chanel’s Platinum Égoïste for job interviews and professional engagements as it makes me feel confident.
Penhaligon’s Orange Blossom takes me to a happy place as it reminds me of roaming around a sunny Paris with my friend.
Frédéric Malle’s Portrait of a Lady makes me feel safe and takes me back to being in Bordeaux over New Year’s Eve with a friend.
If I want a quick boost of positivity and freshness, I opt for Dior’s Eau Sauvage or Roger & Gallet’s Bois d’Orange.

Perfumes are def the fave memories I have from childhood and a memory I draw upon when I’m being challenged by life is PdC Malibu Musk. I loved that perfume so much; the scent, the bottle, the amazing commercial and jingle. If I had 3 wishes in life, I would literally use it to smell that perfume again. Most important youthful frag of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s and it’s vanished from existence. I literally watched the commercial on YT last week, so this vid is such the vibe 🤌🏻

Oh man, I know that feeling when we remember a perfume from the past and sometimes we cannot really pin point which one it is but we remember the smell from our memory… the precise smell and then we go on a journey to try and remember the name of the perfume and then when we remember the name we go looking for it in shops or online and then when we discover that it has been discontinued we look for it second hand and when we finally find it its like the best feeling ever ❤️‍🔥

I love this. Chanel No. 5 is my everything perfume. She bolsters/comforts me when I’m down, tired, happy, thoughtful, blah, scared, excited, or need an attitude or energy adjustment. She is like an elevator in that she can effortlessly and smoothly take me up or take me down to my ground floor. I don’t know what this magic is, but Chanel No, 5 comforts and excites at the same time, yet she reminds me to keep a straight back and carry on. She is nurturance with necessary boundaries! ❤❤❤ Chanel No. 5! Parfum, Eau de parfum, Eau de toilette, Premiere, and L’eau are all my friends. The first three I use most though. They are always replaced when I’m out. Many others have come and gone, but this relationship I have with Chanel No. 5 is an always and forever true love!

Here in Poland in the early ‘00 every mum wore something from Avon. In my Mother’s case it was Perceive.
I couldn’t really afford anything more sophisticated and as a teen all I wore were cheapies, which are all discontinued now, and if I find them second hand, they’ve already gone bad. Nevertheless I still have lilac blossoms, local bakeries and chopped wood left in the sun to dry for the coming winter. It’s all engraved in my mind, ready to surprise me with long forgotten memory. 💛

My "Happy Place" perfumes that boost my mood are Pas Ce Soir (BDK), Explicite (Ex Nihilo), Terracotta (Guerlain) &
Cinéma(YSL) and my "Comfort" Perfumes for when I need to self-soothe are Gris Charnel (BDK), Venenum Kiss (Ex Nihilo), Loukhoum Eau Poudrée (Keiko Mecheri) and Chanel No 19 Poudré. I grew up living near the coast in Southern California, so I'd have to say the happy scent from childhood & also coming of age and into my twenties, is the smell of the ocean and beach air and also the dusty petrichor scent emanating from the canyons & golden hills full of dry brush from summer & the parched clay-like earth when they are wet from the first few rains of autumn. And some actual perfumes that I wore and that stand out from my girlhood & teenage years are Wind Song & Cachet both by Prince Matchabelli, and Chantilly & Emeraude both by Coty & also hippy patchouli. My mother wore Arpege (Lavin)& L' Air du Temps (Nina Ricci) so they are both in my collection & I find them comforting & my father wore British Sterling, which I haven't smelled in years.

Please, oh please let me know where I can get a bottle just like yours!! (I’m in the US.) It was pure 80s heaven, and I could certainly use a glimpse! xxoo xxoo

I think I have talent in wearing the right amount of Paris, and I have come across people not liking my perfumes, and they say they are allergic to them and causes them to have headaches. I pay them no attention as they make things up. I like that you said that you smell people in Paris walking by you and they smell great. Thank you for sharing, Dacob. Perfume is my vice - a friend through good and bad. Just going to smell my favourite bottles brings me joy and grounds me. The earliest scent memory that makes me feel happy and takes me back to childhood are the smells of freshly cut grass and tomato leaf and soil, stained or varnished wood - it reminds me of my grandparent’s garden in the summer. My grandfather used to grow his own tomatoes amongst other produce, flowers and plants. He took pride in the upkeep of his garden - it was an enchanting space my sister and I loved to play and help with the gardening.
Freshly brewed coffee, the smell that certain pieces of swimwear have especially when it’s been worn already, used in the pool or ocean (the material? Idk), suntan lotion reminds me of childhood vacations, being on the beach or by the pool with my family… the smell of coffee in the air in the morning that my parents would be sipping at breakfast alongside freshly baked bread with butter and apricot jam.
I have so many vivid scent memories I hold dear, too many to mention… and that is why perfume and the world of olfaction delights me.

My Mom also used to wear N°19, Cristalle and COCO and that’s where my adoration for CHANEL fragrances began. She isn’t a fan of N°5 on her skin but loves it on others however, because of this I never cared to smell any of the N°5s. After watching MANY a SuperDacob and Persolaise video on this famous and beloved fragrance - it really did pique my interest and persuaded me to try. I’ve come to learn that the extrait is my favourite iteration. It brings me solace and feels like home albeit nobody close to me has worn it. Funny. I wake up before dawn to pray and meditate and I often apply several dabs to my pulse points… it is beautiful and calming, awe-inspiring. And afterwards helps me drift into a deep slumber

Actually just looking at my Parfume collection lifts me up. They are like a little army of soldiers always there to support you and make you feel strong and beautiful again. But I have to say whenever I feel down I like to put on fragrances that make me feel like being hugged or that give me this cozy feeling. For example I love Terracotta by Guerlain, Burberry Brit, CK Euphoria, Hypnose by Lancôme, Amarige by Givenchy and Paris 21 Rue Saint Guillaume by Karl Lagerfeld to name a few. The last one is a cheapie but I love it so much. It’s a happy fragrance for me.✨🥰

Hi Dacob! these are all wonderful! I have a few that I just adore and Chanel #5 of course, tops the list. I like some of those oldies but goodies like Dior's Poison, and I guess for a number of years, Thierry Mugler's Angel. Lately I've got a new addiction to Versace's Vanille Rouge, and my distractions from the others is "love, don't be shy" by Kllian. There are so many. Tom Ford's "Tobacco Vanille" really reminds me of my father when he was sitting in his chair when I was a kid and he'd smoke his pipe. He used Captain Black tobacco. My God! if it doesn't smell exactly like him. My mother's was Coco Mademoiselle and I almost put a bottle in the casket with her but we put her favorite chocolates and roses instead! Thanks for all the memories!

As for memories: My Pop used to use Revlon Aquamarine lotion and Old Spice aftershave. The Aquamarine lotion fragrance stands out most.

Smells and purfumes are definitely a memory lane❤Like the lyrics of TwentyOne Pilots’ song:”Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young.
How come I'm never able to identify where it's coming from?
I'd make a candle out of it, if I ever found it
Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I'd probably only sell one.
It’d be to my brother cause we have the same nose,
Same clothes, home grown, a stone’s throw from a creek we used to roam.
But it would remind us of when nothing really mattered
Out of student loans and tree house homes, we all would take the latter”

Also Most tuberose (great-grandmother) 💙, Chanel No. 19 Poudre and 1957 (grandmothers) 💚and definitely Misia, which reminds me of sitting in church with my Great Aunt Evelyn while she dug in her purse to find a piece of gum for me. Anais anais, Fragonard by Fragonard, red roses by j. Malone, happy by Clinique. I also heard that the Dior perfumes use materials to make you feel good.
From my childhood : a rose smell, cardamom used for baking eastern brioche in Greece and unfortunately since I had a rather sad childhood nothing else....
I wish you happiness and whatever makes you sad cancel it. If you can. ❤❤❤

This is absolutly true, some fragances definetly cheer me up like: white musk from the body shop that reminds me of my teenagehood, J'adore de Dior that is a sparkly fruity floral fragance which goes with everything and every occasion, the smell of Cristalle is such a comforting green fragance that smells like the countryside, and l'heure bleue that is my anti winter break down!!!😁🥰

I love your selections Dacob! I have the vintage Guerlain L’Instant EDP. It is a beauty. I agree with you… There is something about it that does indeed remind me of a shampoo and the one that comes to mind is V05 from the 80’s. Some think it also smells like Nivea cold cream. Nonetheless it’s both very rich feeling and joyful.
Guerlain truly is my favorite house and I tend to lean toward them for comfort and happiness. Currently my happy feel good perfumes are Mon Guerlain and SJP Covet (a beloved discontinued cheapie) both for their mix of lavender and floral notes. These two perfumes are vastly worlds apart from each other in scent but they are each gorgeous & have me hooked. I do catch myself sniffing the bottles often just because. My favorite childhood scent is that of my strawberry shortcake doll’s hair. It smelled like strawberries coated in powdered confectionery sugar. I always wished they would make a perfume to capture this scent. Pure comfort and nostalgia! ❤️

The stable where I learned to ride horses. That’s the perfume of my childhood. Even the smell of manure is a fond memory. Fresh and soiled hay, sweaty wool and leather, an almost minty beeswax saddle soap, and the sweet, dry taste of horse feed when we kids would sneak a nibble.
Thank you for taking me back there. 🙏🏼❤️

Great list, Dacob! And, thank you for including some budget perfumes in there. I totally agree... why can't perfumes be an everyday luxury at an every day price (chanelling Estée Lauder here). At the risk of sounding too literal, Happy by Clinique makes me happy because it was my mother's last perfume. With her dementia, my sister and I decided to stick with that last perfume she seemed to remember and so when I walk through a store and I spray it on me... well, it makes me happy. Hope next week is better for you, Dacob!
