@chilispapa24 actually its when the weight shifts quickly to one side and the setup of the springs, track bar, and sway bar. but the air does play a factor.
Watch from 0:09 to 0:13 in the upper left of the screen (look for the black #62 and the white car) and you will see Mike Wallace hit the #62 so hard that it lifts the 62 onto the roof of Mike Wallace before it lands back on its tires (you can see the damage to Mike's car from the hit from 0:50 to 0:54)
Got it on tape! O_O ESPN announcers actually sounding excited!!?? What has the world come to....or maybe Marty Reid is screaming so loud you cannot hear Jarrett and Petree's monotone voices.
Fortunate for Dale that he got hit in the hood/bottom of windshield rather than 1/4 of a second later straight to the roof. In the current nationwide car it could be real ugly to get hit in the roof especially after the cage already has taken a hard shot and surely was a little bent/weakened.
@killpeople20, they need to bring the COT to Nationwide, those cars are lighter than COTs, and when a COT gets turned like that, it just flips over. At least these cars with the spoiler don't look like they will flip. I'm going to be glad when they get the new car in Nationwide at Daytona. Those cars are a lot safer and can take a lot more damage. The old car just makes cars too loose, notice that cars don't spin out as much with this new package NASCAR has.
Looked a lot like his dad's flip in 1997 or the one Bobby Labonte took in Talladega in 2001. It also reminded me of Tony Stewart's 2001 crash at Daytona except Tony went in the air, not over but nevertheless both drivers took serious shots, now anyone up for a stop-motion reenactment of this?

Man, that was one hell of a wreck for Dale Jr. with that many laps to go.
Harvick actually got some huge air of his own
I also think aggressive camber and the lower tire pressure they run on the left side helps it to turn over.
Reminded me of his dad in the 1997 Daytona 500...
I can't believe it!!!!
@mrtdub43 nope. the side of the car has no downforce so any drag the car had caused vertical lift
That's the only spoiler I've ever seen break
and he comes back 5 months later and wins
I don't think Nationwide will cover that.

Are there any other wrecks Harvick got air or possibly on his roof?
He pulled a Matt Kenseth and went back for the hat :D Im glad hes ok. Hope he does good tomorrow
@kart201 oh ok cuz the way he hit the wall with the spoiler it looked like it could have broken it
To add something right here:
You thought Jr. Nation hated Kyle Busch? Well now they're gonna hate Carl Edwards a hell of a lot more.
@wildfast88
Wow.....he beat Nationwide drivers
I was pissed when I saw this. Dale Jr. didn't deserve it.

That looked a LOT like his daddy's flip.
look carl got into brad which caused the big one ooooooohhhhhh
That could have been the 2001 Daytona 500 flip, but twice as bad.
uuggghh. can he get a break??
How's his fucking insurance now?
Carl Edwards causing a wreck? Color me shocked
Ohhh my Goddd!!!! This was so scary!!!!!!!!!! I was hyperventilating!!!!! Glad Jr was alright!!!
@racefan0051 LOL more like Jr looks at car, well nothing compared to Danica's car
can we get back to booze haulers, not sons of sons!
