This is not a boring specs review that means nothing, this is by someone who actively listens to and loves music and is passionate about the nitty gritty, the things that matter. And that's what we need. Great work, thank you so much, I know what to buy now (T7V). And to recommend to friends (T5V).

I've tried the JBLs quite a while ago for a brief period and I strongly prefer the ADAMs. I really prefer an ability to resolve small details in audio over excitement. What's also worth noting is that although Adam's AMT tweeter allows for very detailed highs, it is NOT fatiguing.

  • @WillTheSage

TLDR: Big question: "Should I keep my JBL 305P's or should I get the Adam T5v's?" Keep the JBL's. 29:56
Uses: T5v's - Music, gaming, living room, parties, bar mitzvahs, orgies.

The trick is a simple one, get a pair of decent midrange producing front speakers with good highs and get a separate matched pair of subs, one sub only provides mono bass out put, despite people saying bass is non directional thats just nonsense, some bass frequencies are very directional. never force deep bass out of your fronts

Adam Audio also has the big T8V as well. I have used the T7V (in a room with no treatment on a desk) before and I love them, they are great especially in the nearfield when toed right in to your listening position. Good for mixing for sure and yes you do need to tweak the master volume knobs at the rear to get it perfectly balanced. They are pretty simple, just plug them in.

It would be my guess that the 5's have more depth and transparency is because a smaller mid/bass driver transitions better with the tweeter (It's faster due to less mass.) not to mention tighter bass.

Man, I had noooo idea about the Adam T5V, I needed small speakers for my second rig. I went and got them at my local music store. I didn't even try them at the store. Set them up in my studio and pressed play and I had to check twice if I wasn't playing through my Neumann KH310.. The T5V is truly magical! I will praise them to anyone wanting to make music are starting audiophiling. Anyway - Then I thought: Someone must have done a good review about these speakers, and I saw that you had done one and I was like: Fuck this is it: Either he talks bullshit about them or he tells the truth how fucking amazing they sound ahahaha!!! And you did!! And who are the idiots watching 5 minutes? Maybe the youtube counter is broken since I have 2 kids I can't watch more then 10 min at 1 go, but always watching the videos from start to finish. Anyway! Need to watch the rest of the video now! I just sold off a pair of ADAM A8x because they were taking up too much space on my desk (Yep, I'm nuts). I needed to upgrade my computer display to a 43" 4K HDR monitor and that meant going with smaller studio monitors. My max width is 8" and I was originally planning on a pair of ADAM A5x monitors and matching it up to a subwoofer. After seeing this and a few other videos I reversed course and bought the T5v instead. I also bought the PreSonus E66 as they intrigued me. I will set both of them up for extended listening and then and keep the speaker I like the most and send the other one back. I have spent the last day listening to the T5v. Very impressive small speaker. It took me quite sometime to get them dialed and level matched with my subwoofer. If I have one small quibble with these it is that the low end starts to fall apart at high SPLs. These speakers can get quite loud. The middle and top end hold up nicely at SPLs over 100db. But the bottom end starts to distort a little bit at that point. But these are small monitors and they have quite a bit of slam given their size so keep that in mind. And the price is certainly right at $400 for a pair. I was actually a bit surprised by how good they sound. I hope to get around to setting up the PreSonus E66 soon.

I did what you did and listened to a friends t5v that was so good it destroyed my PMC FB1s in comparison. So much clarity and tightness. Then I bought T7v as was only slightly more. The warm in period with these is painful. You go through the following stages. No bass, ok but a bit lacking in clarity, way too much bass with huge boom at 50 Hz, that forces you to move them further from the wall and then they finally sound really good. After 8 hours of use they sBest I've heard everything. But they need room to breathe. If you have small room definitely go t5v. Still enjoying the 7s. The bass and the punch is spectacular now. Clarity is very good, maybe not quite T5 good yet but with each listen it sounds better. Helped also by better cables. Seems a bit fussier than 5s too.

have a feeling the difference between the 5s and 7s you might be hearing is the responsiveness of the bass cones. 5s might be tighter response to the 7s. also it makes sense the 5s have a shorter nodal range than the 7s but i wouldnt have expected it to be that big of a difference.

The 7s do depth pretty well. I have mine on a set of isostands about a foot away from the wall, and the wall directly behind the port is treated with acoustic panels.
My reference point is the emotiva 4s and the 6s. A to B on a foam pad, the 4s give the illusion that they seem to layer the lower notes better than the 6. If I load the ports off a treated wall it has the same effect with both monitors. I believe it is slowing the wave down or dispersing it to give that perception of depth.
Another point on the T7v is using the boost makes the low end sound a bit muddy in my opinion. I prefer the 0db setting and that's where the dsp work really shines to me.

I think it s very possible you have some standing waves and some cancellations in your room with regard to the bass on the t7v (taken into consideration the lack of acoustic treatment and especially the windows behind the rear ported speakers). So i think that the problem is not on the t7v in comparison to t5v, but the way they each create the low end sounds.

    @LightWthoutTheStatic 6 лет назад +7

This was great. Thanks for walking through each part of your experience. Maybe the word you are looking for between the 7's and 5's is the 5's are just slightly hyped. The great part is that they're hyped in a really great way, presenting sound well rather than truncating and distorting tonality to get at a certain frequency punch, but that if it's just raw detailed transparent accuracy you want, then the 7's are just a little more of that. Hearing you talk about the 5's makes me second guess leaning toward the 7's, but knowing I'm really needing these for production more than anything else, the 7's are probably my jam. Thanks for all the thoughts on these.

I went to Guitar Center trying to hear Sennheiser 600s or 400s. Weren't hooked up. Did get to hear 361s and wound up buying a pair refurbished a few days later. But I got to hear the T5V alongside M-Audio, KRK Rokit, Yamaha and JBL studio monitors. JBL had such loud horns they actually overpowered that famous JBL bass. But the Adam Audio T5V. I'm trying to sell my ROkit 5 G4 to get them. They are ridiculous. Possibly better than the T7V. But it was like comparing 371 to 361s. Very similar. The T5Vs may be the best speakers I've ever heard. Granted I've never hear Polk or Klipsch towers. But the Adam Audio speakers blew my doors off. I also liked the 5s better than 7s for some reason.

17:12. It's the "Bose effect". People are always impressed by the exception. When you have large sound, especially if it can sound decent, coming from a small thing, that's impressive, because that's usually not the case. I call it the "Bose effect" because anyone with Bose (especially when they first came out) would invite you over to listen to music, and they'd turn up the volume, and they'd talk about how great the sound was, etc, etc, and then they'd always say, "can you find the speakers?" Like clockwork. LOL

Zoos you are fucking hilarious. Just know I watch all your videos and love the intro to the end. I say average I watch is about 7-10min. Unless I am buying speakers, which i did based on what advise you gave me.

the fun factor is wierd, My larger speakers do sound bigger, but its so much more fun listening to my Mirage M460, circa 1990's, which sound smaller but more interesting. It is probably psychological.

I know I am a year and 3/4 late to this party. But just checking up on Z’s opinion on the 5s. Did It ever occur to anyone that because of the different size drivers(5” and 7”) that the room acoustics are probably causing a standing bass wave? No way the bass is going to act the same from the exact same speaker placement.

I have a 3x3x3 meter room, it’s fairly treated. Should I get tv5 or tv7 for crucial mixing?
Disclaimer: I don’t have a good headphone to mix on so im gonna rely with the monitors

Currently at 28:05 will prob sit threw all of this and watch the T5's sound test. Im on here again as i brought the RBH due to his review and they were hella cheap on ebay, so im wondering should i replace these and use the RBH's at the back of my room for my 5.1.

I'm about 6 years to late to this video. But I'm commenting with the slim chance you can advise me whether to get the T5v or mr624 for a home DJ set up. Tiny box room with the speakers on stands around a foot away from either ear . From your review on the Mackie's I feel these will work well. But T5v are in my price range and sound great . I'll stump up for the mr6 if you feel they will be more suitable for my situation. Got my fingers crossed for your reply .

Great video. I bought t5v after watching this. Now when I don't use them that often for music production I would like to know if they would be a good fit for listening music in small living room? Size of the triangle for speakers, listening position will be 2,7 - 2,7 - 2,7m.

I'm years late to this party.....but when you switched from the 5's to the 7's with the same song, I 100% heard what you were talking about. The 7's sounded more.....boxy.....like they were hollow, and the 5's are solid like a brick. I don't mean to say the 7's sound boxy.....but compared to the 5's, which sound like a solid wall of sound, the 7's sound kind of boxy.

  • @Geerladenlad
    @Geerladenlad 6 лет назад +1

You should A/B these speakers. have someone come over and help you and do the switching and not tell you which ones playing have them stacked one on top of each other. And you sit back on the couch with your eyes closed and see if you can tell which is which. Although that mini DSP you could probably tweak the sevens to sound more like the fives.

I got the LSR305 based on your reviews and when I set them up all I did was grin. Wondering how much better it can get. Sad that the emotiva powered monitors are discontinued. Would these be end game powered monitors?

This guy is right. The T5v are more pleasurable to listen.
Although not as neutral as the t7v the frequency response is smoother\cleaner throughout the whole range.
Within an interval of a about 3db the t7v have a more overall erratic and at times extreme frequency response.
The T5v, although not overall as neutral, they have less erratic frequency response through the range.
The pleasure in listening to the t5vs comes from two elements:
1.A more pronounced dip in the beginning of the mids and elevated highs.
2.A smoother frequency response throughout the range.
To make the t7v sound more like the t5vs it would take adding to 2db to the low frequencies and doing to the same in the highs.

Very insightful. So you’d say that if you’re a music listener or audio file and want exciting: get the 5”. But if you’re a music producer and you want flat and true: get the 7”

I had the t5vs in a 12-24 room and let me tell you those things punch man. Phenom of a speaker. The 5s def have more base and even the high end sounds more resolving. What people are considering is the tuning via the material. 5 inches is the sweet spot for whatever reason. Problem is the sound is becoming anemic on the 7s because they weren’t tuned/made correctly for that size. They are using the same material with probably the same density, so basically just taking the 5 inch driver and stretching it out which is why it sounds flatter. Probably could have been resolved by simply increasing the density of the 7

I usually watch most of the videos as well, the only issue that im starting to half the more videos I watch, is that he seems like like everything. every video ive watched he is just ranting and raving about how much he loves the speakers.. so its hard to take what he says seriously. or use it as consumer advice. I guess its more for entertainment ie. the cat and the funny things he says.
