    If the Sportster is so bad, why is it still here since 1957? Longest running production bike by Harley. Period. I've been riding since the early 60's and I've ridden them all. My old Sporty isn't perfect, but no bike is. It's still my favorite bike of all. Simple. Reliable. Bulletproof. Easy to work on. Hydraulic lifters, no tensioners, air-cooled, belt drive and probably the biggest aftermarket supply of parts and accessories out there. With regular maintenance, they can last forever. Sure, I'll have a fling with another bike but the Sportster is the one I come home to.

      BG you nailed it when you said "w/ regular maintenance". I've NEVER in over 40yrs of working on motors EVER seen any vehicle depend sooo much on regular oil changes as a Sporster. Their basically a really fast tractor.

      @@markwinchester3005 Yeah, I call it Fred Flintstone technology. I change most of the fluids at least twice as often as called for by the owner's manual and others, more often than that. A lot of people don't even take time into consideration and will let some fluids go for years. Cheap insurance and easy to do. Also, don't skimp on the brand name and quality of fluids.
      I hardly ever clean my bike but I am super obsessive about internal maintenance and do as much as possible myself, just so I can be sure it's done right.

      Theyre so bad because people who became bikers after watching sons of anarchy said so 😂 theyre not bad. just alot of stupid people out there desperate to be "too cool" something else saying they are.

    Category 1, my 2001 XL1200 has about 7 more ft. lbs. torque than a Dyna, and weighs 100+ lbs. less. Advantage Sportster. All other categories, your right, but 65 year old, spinal injury (lost 1/3rd of my legs) me worked his way down from Dyna's/baggers to a 550 lb. 1200C (likely the last bike I'll ever own, and that's okay), but at least I'm going out on two wheels, and one very flexable platform. Good review, kid.
    PS: Cost me 1k, garage kept, bags, same Thunder header as yours, with 9,320 original miles. Hell of a deal! :)

    I think the power to weight ratio is better on the sportster. I might start changing at the 103 version. But 88 and 96 are beatable

    • @flatstatefilms881
      @flatstatefilms881  4 года назад

      Agree. And, the displacement with new bikes is just getting to be ridiculous. That’s just my opinion, but I’m good with 1200 sporty or stock 88inch twin cam.

      From 0-120km/h my 2018 forty eight with intake, exhaust and tuner would stay beside my buddies 2013 103 softail slim with intake, exhaust and tuner and after that i leave him in the dust. It is heavier than a dyna, but mod for mod the 103 isn't getting away from me. That was then, now he can't keep up lol

      I own both big twins and a Sporty and the Sportster will race the 103 RK and 1340 Evo without a problem. I actually started on a big twin and moved backwards lol. I won't sell any of them and I have no problem toasting my buddy on his 103 softail slim. The power to weight is what makes it what it is. Drop more weight like I did (carbon fiber fenders and side panels) and add some power (stage 2 soon to be big bore stage 3) and you have yourself an absolute ripper!

    • @markwinchester3005
      @markwinchester3005 3 года назад

      Throw a Monster Sucker, a low restriction pipe(s), a high lift cam, and maybe pistons on a Sporty and light to light, street to street the little Sporty will dust most bikes. Too many people, myself included previously, lump motorcycle racing into the same parameters of comparison as cars. Sure in a top speed race the dyna will probably win...but everyone forgets the name SPORTSTER is not just a name. The bike is designed for racing and NOT cruising like the Dyna, BTs, CVOs, etc.. In a real world street race (dodging cars, splitting lanes, sharp turns, jumps from lights, etc., the SPORTSTER is just plain better. No offense S. Fl Films but your wrong.
