Thanks for Philling in for Jay!
Hah!
/facepalm
I've already had my Phil of Phil puns for the year.
It had to be said
Ayo
I like Phil. Leave him alone! He is a funny dude behind the camera. Once he warms up in front of the camera a bit more, he is gonna rock it!
I need more PhilsTwoCents
He rocked it in this video, already!
He is showing more and more of his personality for every video he does. He is going to be a star if he keeps it up 🤩
Literally nobody is complaining. Stop looking for fights where there are none.
i haven't touched him, its just nasty rumor.
Phil we love you! get well soon Jay
@@RedOptics hehehe
There's nothing wrong with this man.
i love videos with phil... he does it really well!
true
He is a hell of a lot more intelligent than his poop humor would suggest. Jay and Phil seem like amazing and genuine ppl.
@@christophermullins7163 a person only as genuine as people around him.... so having good person like phil say"s alot
I like adding the Twocents to the end of the names on this channel PhilTwoCents has a nice ring to it
Phil my brain with information
Then that would be PhilzTwocents. Nice ring
Now add MaBawlz
Haven't tested it yet, but I really like the fact that AMD just said "here's the feature, and anyone who owns a recent-ish card from us can use it at no additional cost". Am looking forward to seeing whether it will make a difference on any of the games I play, most of those are either already running very smooth or way too old to use this (although I use a DX11 renderer for a 23 year old game, that could be interesting)
That and there's people who make hybrid drivers out of these new updates, to work on older outdated cards... so even more slightly older cards too.
AFMF can be made to run on Vulkan also. And given DXVK can be made to run DirectX8 (eight) and newer, quite a lot of games it can be used on
Rest up Jay and good job Phil 👏🏻
Yes, sitting down at a table and talking to a camera really takes a toll on you.
Doing great Phil! Love to see ya doing more presenting in front of the camera. Keep it up!
Appreciate the video. Also appreciate using a midrange card rather than the beasts that most content creators use while telling everybody not to buy them. Makes experience much more useful rather than just a showcase of what the tech CAN do, but not what most people will likely get out of it.
Also didn't realize it supported RDNA2. I'll have to play around with it on my TV system with a 6750XT hooked up to a 4K 120Hz display.
This exactly, I have a 6700XT and was pleasantly surprised to get information immediately relevant to me.
yeah i didn't know it supported RDNA2 as well. i hate the resolution scaling crap but may just play with frame gen a little anyways with my RX6800 in FS20.
I'm that customer with the 6750XT what a good gpu for the price it's been this video was awesome
The ifixit ads are the ONLY ads i will ever watch and enjoy i swear
It never gets old, I love it too 😂
I bought 2 sets due to loving the ads
Great job, Phil. I like your style :) Your actual hands-on experience with these tests comes through along with your understanding of how it actually works. and I appreciate actually knowing what the video was about based on the title instead of clickbait BS.
I fix it needs to realize that Jay is graded the greatest commercials for these guys. His commercials live rent free in my brain. Every time I see it I fix it kit, I hear I fix it in the joy rage voice
Good Job Phil. I hope you feel better soon Jay.
The slomo cam was genius. Good to illustrate your point 4:17
Great job, Phil! I enjoyed seeing you on camera. Make sure we see more of you! And tell Jay we said hi.
Hi Phil! Love seeing more videos where you host! Hope to see more!
Get well soon, Jay
Pocket sized Jay is back. Oh Yeah!!
phil, you did an amazing job standing in for jay! hope to see more of you on the channel, any one who wants to keep this channel and its community going through difficult times is a winner in every regard!
Whats wrong wirh jay?
hes not very well, he made a video about it dude,@@HappyDude1
Nice work on this Phill.
My goodness Phil looks short in that chair compared to Jay 😂
lol
He definitely is. Jay is 6’4” I think and Phil is in the low 5 foot range if I remember right
@@jolness1 Phil is 5'2". Look at the past video where they're at Microcenter and they stood next to a cutout of Shaq.
@@glenyoung1809 Phil wears 3.54 inch lifts in his shoes.
I think the disabling on large movements is mostly to prevent it from trying to interpolate between different camera shots for cutscenes and such. It'd be nice if they had a setting to tweak the sensitivity or turn it off on a per-game basis
This exactly. I get they don't want it making a ton of mistakes but the constant on and off effect has been shown to create micro stutters which is way worse than the difference between 60 and 90 fps or whatever it would push a game to. I love what they're trying to do but I struggle to see use cases for it outside of maybe a game like cities skylines or something that's pretty static.
@@SpartanArmy117the microstutters are only really relevant in competitive games like CS2 and Val. I’ve been using AFMF since release and it works really well playing GTA, Apex (surprisingly), FF7 Remake; the only games ive been playing besides CS2 FWIW. The auto disabling isn’t even noticeable.
Like seeing Phil behind the camera - a great perspective!
Jay looks so different with his glasses on! Great Video Phil, I love how relatable you make it for someone like myself who is an amatuer enthusiast 👍 Hope your feeling alright Jay and wishing you well 🥰
Wow - great performance of Phil. One suggestion: Try to look a bit more often in the cam. Your vocal skill is just absurdly great. So well usage of language - so much knowledge - such a pleasure to listen to you.
Also your body language was great - just the eyes could be more often looking in the cam. Probably something that is very weird if you are not used to it. Cause... its... just a f***ing cam, I guess 😀
Anyway - would like to get more information from you about hardware related software.
Keep up your great work. Thumbs up.
Had the same thought, felt a bit weird watching. Content in general was very good, just the eyes that felt a bit off, but like you said it's probably because he's not used to it. It will come, we definitely need more Phil on camera!
I was interviewed once by a TV team and they told me *not* to look directly into the camera but simply at the dude interviewing me since it was set up like a normal conversation. Friggin' hard not to look lol
@@Konrad-z9w Hear me out, they should make a cardboard cutout of Jay's face and stick it to the bottom of the camera lens for him to talk to.
The thing AMD doesn't mention officially is AFMF also works with Vulkan games Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are the games I tested and it works, little bit glitchy at first though, might have to toggle the full screen or borderless fullscreen a few times and then it finally kicks on. also AFMF works best on 1440p high HZ variable monitors or a 4k variable monitor that has a high HZ and you can get over 60FPS on the games, locking the FPS to 60 or higher WITHOUT USING VSYNC will make the experience better, I been testing it since the first beta driver.
oh nice, may have to test it in xplane 11 for shits and giggles.
Nice 1 keep doing the good job hope to see u more often now that jay is less active.
Phil if you were just doing your first video on your channel that would have been enjoyable too, but knowing you are doing it and helping out Jay so he can focus on his health. Makes it extra warm and fuzzy. Thanks. As you do more videos I’m sure your giggle we love will come out even more. :)
Been loving this frame Gen tbh it has helped out alot on gpu usage as well for games that don't utilize gpu much like neverwinter for me went from using 35-55% gpu utilization now it's at that magic number of 99%. I will say latency wise I haven't seen more then 5ms so I'm not sure why your test show so high. I will say to test with enhanced sync and windowed full screen instead of exclusive.
Phil’s 2 cents. 😂😂😂😂
I don’t like using frame generation, but Phil made a great video, he’s not as goofy as Jay but good to watch.
I hope Jay is doing great, normally I wouldn’t watch a vid on Frame Gen but I still want to support the channel.
Great job Phil!!! thanx for the video/info!!!
Videos dense with information, like this one, are much appreciated. Using a high speed camera to capture the latency was interesting to see.
Thanks Phill, just went and updated my 7800xt
I have an RX 7800XT it doesnt work to well with games that are on UE 4 with loading stutters
@@northernclubanthems factory reseet and try optimizing for quality in the profile. It should so the rest on it's own
We need a Phil GPU review in DougDemuro style now.

Great video, Phil! I had no idea this came out, I might need to give it a try!
Cool overview. 👍🏼 Thanks
Id love to see how the newer Gen GPU's work with VR
most Reviews/benchmarks only show desktop games and productivity.
VR is tricky to bench, not exactly many inbuilt benchmarks for VR games to make it repeatable. And there's quite a few different headsets all with different resolutions, refresh rates and reprojection techniques.
But yea I'd like to see it too. Particularly in regards to the wireless headsets that rely on encode/decode, as that has been something AMD struggles with historically.
Maraksot78 has done some good VR reviews of modern cards.
This exacyly, @@MoleUK1. Would still like to see it in vrchat though since vrchat decided to ban modding (specifically the AMD freeFSR 'mod', even though it helps a hell of a lot for making their non optimized game actually playable.)
It is definitely harder for the reasons people have already said, and also the intagibles. I've heard issues with amd GPUs with wireless streaming (I use this for quest 3 and it's a great experience), but those kind of issues would be harder to capture for testing. For the amd GPUs issue specifically I think it's fine on 7000 series, which is what I have. AMD had a substantial re-work of their encoder so maybe that's it
Hi, Phil!
good to see more of the team!
Good work Phil!, great information!
I was looking forward to a Jay video, I hope Phil doesn't come up short. ;)
I see what you did there
Is he standing up?
Phil!! Woot Woot!!
I love Phill's videos, it goes straight to the point, mention everything I would like to know, well done !
Great to see you Phil!
phill 🙂
I just bought Lossless Scaling on Steam for 6 bux and its friggen awesome. Their upscaling is better than FSR and it has frame gen for any game as well. It took me a min to figure out how to set up but works great on a lot of game on my ROG Ally. I went from 45ish FPS in Undisputed (boxing game) to 120fps with upscaling and frame gen using Lossless Scaling. This framegen doesnt disable in fast movement like AMFM and is much better imo
Yeah, honestly Lossless Scaling's Frame Generation s significantly better than AFMF just for its ability to remain on even during rapid movement.
Great vid Phil. Keep up the great work guys!
Awesome, thanks for the heads up Phil!
As someone who switched teams this generation I'm glad to be kept in the loop with new tech I can play with. I'll check it out for myself now.
Used FMF in Cyberpunk for the first time. Everything one High and able to run above 144 fps with no dips on 1440p. Appreciate that AMD added this to last gen cards to increase some performance.
It's not real performance
@@chriswright8074 It's not really important.

Hey Phil, thanks for the video.
Thanks for the info Phil, can’t wait to try this.
YOOOOOO :D
Phil killed it with this vid :D
Yeah Phil does a good job explaining. I like this AFMF video more than Digital Foundry one.
digital foundry are nvidia shills and it only gets worse with time. just notice, they will NOT talk badly about nvidia, unless there's nothing else bad to talk about in that particular "slide"
DF are more objective about things. They measure and test. Phil just says how it felt when he tried it
Love the Doug shoutout haha. Doug’s channel is awesome.
Thank you Phil 🫶🏻

Always use DDU in safe mode. Been using only AMD since 2018, it's been no different to Nvidia.
Nice work, Phil. My only suggestion would be to improve eye contact with the camera. Reduced eye contact is interpreted as nervous and/or less authoritative. And since you are clearly a subject matter expert, you want to communicate your mastery of the material. But great video!
"PhilzTwoCents" hahaha LOVE it! Great job Phil!
Thank you PhilzTwoCents. Looking forward to more videos.
ive tried it with the 7800xt and in some games its absolutely frames moving faster (afmf) , ive found it doesnt work so well in first person shooters but in driving games and flight simulator its a swear word !! what a great piece of software to have.
As a DCS player, I’m glad I made the move for the 7900xtx then. Was holding out for the 4080S but my previous was a 6950xt which I liked
Yaaaay, got my Phil fix !
Phill you rocked it. I like that you guys are now not just Jay, but all of you interacting with us. MORE!
Solid Video there Phil, real Solid.
I've been playing with it in Diablo 4 , Cyberpunk and War Thunder. I have a 240Hz 1440p monitor , I'm using really high setting like SSAA X4 ( doubles the 1440p rendering ) in War Thunder so my real fps drops to 95 sometimes but it's usually around 120 so I locked my fps to 119 in rivatuner and enabled AFMF and I'm getting " 238 fps " so it all works with freesynch :D
Input lag 😢
@@R0b3ert I haven't noticed any extra input lag, I still smash in War Thunder and the AMD overlay says I'm getting 14ms because I'm starting from decent fps 😜
Nailed it Phil. I have a 6600xt s this was so very helpful. Well presented. Cleaning up a couple few ums would be the only suggestion I have. Your pacing of space was wonderful. Keep on keeping on team
This is such a good video - honestly I'm stoked that you're including more of the team in the hosting rotation. I think this would be kind of an awesome long term move even when you're feeling better :D
Well done bro! Nice vid. Super way to explain it if not to sure what the F is going on.

Good job, Phil. Great info! My ears perked up when I heard “Z1”, not because I know what that is in today’s context, but because there was a company back in the late 1970s that made intel-equivalent cpus using “Z” as header of the sku (Z80 for 8080, etc.) I interviewed there while being a temp at Intel. 🙂
Thanks for the video! Ive been trying this out on a few games and noticed some of the points you brought up. Good to know it wasnt just me
