  • What do we do when we need some measurements? Well we head over to Galpin Speed Shop and visit MFS alumni and good friend Dave Shuten! We spend some time with Tweedy Pie as Lucky gathers some intel on the construction of that peskey steering box mount and we learn abount Super Grape Poly III. Then back at the shop Lucky gets to it and fabricatrs the mount.
WE ALSO HAVE NEW MERCH! Our buddy artist Evan Daines did an amazing illustration of the car. We have Tee's, Stickers and a cool posters as well as Mad Fabricators Tess too! available at monstersareout.com

Being original and hitting a home run with originality is much harder than a copy in my opinion. There’s a reason why people copy, being truly original is dam difficult

Found this channel by chance. I used to have a bunch of Mad Fabricator DVDs back in the 2010's when i was heavily into hot-rodding and built a Roth-inspired C Cab. Took it to one car show, drove it home, then started reworking some stuff on it. Lost interest and moved onto classic VWs.
Now this series has me inspired to drag the old C Cab out and have another crack at it.
Although I'm a keen Roth fan, Tweedy Pie never attracted my attention much. I thought it was just another T Bucket. Watching this build I'm amazed at just how unique it was and how much ingenuity and creativity went into the car's chassis and underpinnings.
Been binge-watching all the episodes over the past few nights.
I happen to be a fan of Dave Shuten's work too, so great to see him getting involved.
Fantastic project brother, thanks for taking me along for the journey!

Man I’m glad my little videos inspired you to get back in the shop and take another stab at it!! Your motivation in infectious for me as well!! If these videos can inspire even just one person to get in the garage and go…well then this is the payoff for all the work that goes into these videos.. I love everything about this!! Let’s all build cool stuff!! PS I dig old bugs too!! Thank for joining the channel there’s plenty of content to watch so enjoy!!!

      @@MADFABRICATORSTV Thanks brother!
next time you bump into Dave Shuten, let him know he has a HUGE fan here in New Zealand, especially since he restored Dan Woods' Ice Truck and Pizza Wagon, the two cars that inspired my C cab's body style.
      Much respect.

I really admire the attention to detail. With most casual onlookers you guys could get away with a lot, but you choose to do it right. I'm getting the feeling it's way harder to reproduce a car than it was for the original guys to build them. 😎

I think it is. I have always thought these early builders just built with whatever they had as there wasn’t a big way to find specific parts. It always makes me think when I did my race car I used what worked and was on hand. Granted I had collected parts with the ease of the internet for years… haha

Very interesting to see what the build quality was actually like back in the day, not knocking it at all
But it was very much about getting a look and doing it quickly with basic tools, we need to remember that most home car hobbie nuts have more tools in their on garage than most professional mechanics had
Great build and enjoy the video, thank you for taking the time to share with us all

Yeah for sure.. Bob and Dick were doing it all in a 2 car garage with what they had. Dick was more of a machinist so although some stuff was crude other things were well made.. so it’s a good balance :)

The tube under the engine of Tweedy Pie is a road draft tube , and it's a one year only deal . Did you notice there was no oil filter ? That's right , that is a 1955 Chevy 265 V8 . In '55 the oil filter was optional and mounted above the thermostat housing. The '55 road draft tube went thru the block where the oil filter canister was moved to in '56 , with the road draft mounted behind the back of the block on the passenger side . In '63 they went to the pcv system .
