1.600 € for the Modern Lite is just insane.
The used market offers so much better value, the used standards and classics go for under 2K, who pays almost that price for a faded studio??
People who prefer the thin, all mahogany, and much lighter guitar.
1600 Euro! 😅
I don’t think so. Way way too much. Was expecting around 850 or 900.
Even more expensive than a Tribute.
Bought that in 2015 from Thomann (850 adjusted to 2023 inflation)
Amen…way too expensive…
There is no longer any reason to buy just this manufacturer, neither has "special features" in wood, production or "authenticity". These instruments are usually not only bad - Made in usa is not a seal of quality - not even with Tesla - but also damn expensive. There is really, no reason whatsoever to buy this manufacturer. The quality is under the kitchen table.
@@herbst1398 So why come and watch the video on a brand you would never buy, just to tell people?
@@EattheApple666 to warn other people and to tell them not to waste theyre money - like i did. Whats wrong with that? Gibson ist not the same company - not the same builer anymore - it not about music or guitar - its about MONEY
@@EattheApple666he's copy+pasting the same comment all over the place.
So maybe he's not as pathetic as it seems... maybe just his job to leave these comments on Gibson videos Lol
Those pickups are actually the 490T in the neck, 498T for the bridge. So slightly hotter version of the 490T. Played one of these around a month ago upon their release and immediately fell in love with the feel. I have an old Epiphone Les Paul Standard made in 2000 i think, and a newer model of Fender Tele. This guitar literally feels like a combo of both a LP standard 60s and a Tele. In short, I want one of these.
I love how my SG 6.6lbs feels when playing. I love my Les Paul Classic Lite too but it gets a little heavy after a while 7.8lbs. I'm stoked that these are not flat top, what I don't like about the special\tribute so to me it's just a LP Lite without the maple cap and binding. Can't wait to pick one up.
Lite on everything but the price tag. Ouch. And of course thinning the body means the fancy control PCB doesn’t fit. I’m surprised someone hasn’t made even smaller push-pull pots yet (CTS did those new ones with everything on the side of a black plastic topper, but you still need an inch (~2.5 cm) of cavity depth).
Will you make a review of the custom color series of les pauls? They are also very nice. Btw. I havent really seen those on the thomann website. Is there any reason for it?
The Lite should provide a comparable experience to my LP CM, which I find to be remarkably enjoyable, minimal and unapologetically practical; this Lite adds the neck pickup, excludes the maple cap and uses a tunomatic instead of a wraparound.
Lite reminds me of my Gibson The Paul Firebrand i bought in 1983 for 507€. Great guitar. Slim, comfortable and as Les Paul himself prefered, all mahogany.
The Paul was later reborn in the late ‘90s as “The Paul II” with a few changes. And now the Modern Lite is its latest reincarnation.
I'm looking at the Modern Figured to be the one LP to rule them all while allowing access too higher frets (and easier on the back). From your video it sounds like it has the old-school LP tone but perhaps just a little brighter? How do you feel the Figured tone compares to a non-weight relieved LP standard? Great review and please keep them coming!!
wow, at this rate Gibson LPs will be up to par with the competition in terms of ergonomics and playability in just another 50 years or so!
That intro playing the GNR intro that EVERY newb proudly plays at Guitar Center is hilarious. Btw thanks for demoing the jangly middle position that Page always used, I feel it gets left out of reviews and it is a wonderful feature of the Les Paul.
Geeez that modern Blue burst is sweet. Bright, but musical. In your face and just sharp. Looks the part too.
I would like to hear it next to the typical brighter guitars, like SG and even a Strat (well, and a LP Standard) to hear how it sounds compared to those.
You guys are the best, Kris and Guillaume, I appreciate all that you do. Keep on rockin’! You guys sound great.
Blue cobalt, all life.
This is the one that own all.....sounds...
Gorgeous.
Are these neck heavy?
These should be under a grand. Simple as that. The price is taking the p***. This is a guitar run through a standard mass production line no different than Epiphone or Harley Benton. Gibson should be trying to make these more accessible to younger guitarists, I'm thinking the 16-19 year old just getting into guitar who can save 600ish for their first good guitar.
600? haha They are made in America not communist china where they pay their workers 75 cents an hour.
Yeah? You do realize that these are still hand made in Nashville right?
Gibson employees demand top tier wages and benefits....who do you think pays for that?
Get your head out of your @$$
Yep. Absurdly high price for such a bare-bones guitar.
Yeah, if it were made outside of the US. Frankly, these guitars and what makes them "special" takes a big human element. Especialized manual labour, aka craftsmanship. Not just budding it, but also including material selection and the final setup. THIS is not achievable under $1k in the USA.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying you and others have to be ok with it being made elsewhere, or with it not having those crafty features. That's the bottom line. Unless you want american crafstpeople making $12/hr.
Anyways, that 16 yo can get an Epiphone. Perfectly fine, good enough, not at all barebones, and quite capable for way under $1k. Or you can get a Gibson LP Tribute or Studio which have at least 85% of what a Standard has, for a lot less $$.
Yep , like the stufio faded series , that went for 700 ish euros , i get more expensivr prices but if someone checks these against epi prophecy series or an ltd ec series those gibbys will be a loss for gibson
Seems that cobalt blue is a expensive color, or why it cost 399€ more than the others ??
The moment I saw that Cobalt burst, I just had to have it :) Found a retailer that discounted brand new 20% off with the holidays sales going on... it's on its way to me, counting the days. Great review guys. 😎
What retailer?

Wow! The lite Les Pablos could be right up my alley. But 1600 bucks for a stripped down guitar is quite a lot of money. In 2014 I bought a similar US made LPJ model for 500-600. Still have that guitar. But question: How lite is "lite"? :) Thanks for the cool demo Kris and Guillaume
@unshartedterritory wow!!! that’s even UNDER 3 kg
@unshartedterritory Let’s just hope it doesn’t have neck dive 🤞
I bought a stunning Les Paul Studio Premium Plus about 15 years ago for $1400. Incredible guitar. This new model is way overpriced.
Just got one and it weights 6lbs 1oz.
I'm still kicking myself in the head for not getting the LP Tribute when Thomann had it for like under 700€ as a Christmas Deal around 2018. Prices today are just unreal, even Epiphones like the Kirk V cost 1500€.
Wake me up...
I really liked what Guillaume played, nice review ,👊😎
Thanks a lot!
The blue one is like a “lite” version of my HP Les Paul Standard.
Beautiful
I'm really happy that you crazy guys are still at it... I've been watching you goof around for a long time!!!
Thanks so much man, we really appreciate you hanging out here. 🙌 //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Wow... touched by a superstar 🌟🌟🌟🌟
The bridge pick up is 498 not 490
all of them
if gibson still making brand new white studio, i will pick studio in white , but gibson no more making white studio , so creamy white les paul lite is the great choice ,same pickup without metal cover, and i think $200 cheaper , and matching headstock too, i cant thinking of any other les paul has matching headstock in my head at this moment .
Kris, not guitar related but i made your color analysis because you look so yellowish with black clothes. You are "soft autumn" palette, try clothes with these colors and you will see yourself more vivid and prettier. ❤
How heavy is it ? Just like 6 lbs
That can be answered by paying attention to the comments or making a simple Google query. Critical thinking isn't that hard.
I think it's just a Les Paul Special Tribute Humbucker with different neck, but more expensive
Exactly! LP special tribute was a cool guitar, so this is too. At 1k it would have been a no brainier.
@@Angeloemanuele84 LP special tribute was 999 while this I think it's 1499. A little bit expensive imho
Yeah totally agree with you (50%more for a mahogany neck…)
Les Paul special tribute with a belly cut for 1500? Got my special for 800$
@@jimroadhouse4872 yeah it's a little bit too expensive. I've got mine for $600
You can buy a over seas one for 1/5 that price equall or better quality
I would rather consider this demo being a top++ demo for more 💵 stuff like Soldano, Kernom, UA, ... 👍👍
Why buy this instead of having a Les Paul Studio second hand for under 1000 dollars.
I got a LTD EC 1000 with Gibson pickups , it cost me 900 dollars at the end , it's literally the same thing or better because i have locking tuners
And that is why everybody who's anybody plays Ibanez: Benson, Scofield, Metheny, Krasno, Vai, Satriani, Gilbert, Tim & Scottie from Polyphia... sell that junk for $400 and we can talk.
*Blow Switch? is what they called it, I think...
The price of the Modern Lite is ridiculous considering it's not much cheaper than the Les Paul Studio. But a thinner body would be lovely to have. I just don't get why it's so much more expensive than the Tribute.
Tribute has a maple neck, which apparently is cheaper to make than mahogany.
Greedflation. Companies are coming after your sweet, sweet money, and the only thing that you can do about it is not consume.
@@benedekgabor. I’m still shocked at people that buy things they don’t really need solely because it’s on sale.
“But I saved 40 bucks!”
“You could have saved the full price by not buying it!”
They might come down a little.
Because Sadly Gibson use their name to put an extra price on everything they sold
OK, OK. I now have 9 top line guitars. And a top line bass. I m off to rehab.
It’s SG in LP shape
Seems like a revisit of the 2014 carve top Melody Maker but with humbuckers instead of P90s. Nothing here really indicates it’s a Modern except the belly carve, which is on the MM (and you can buy second hand for around £600). I have a Les Paul lite with coil tap and a flamed maple top and binding which i got for the same price as these Modern Lites. To be honest, for this price, new, I’d rather get an SG.
What's stopping you?
They took everything that made the modern great, and removed it…..
It’s a slightly more contoured LP Special.
At least they had to common sense to not charge more than the special, but cmon; who’s this for? SG players with LP envy?
LP players with SG envy?!
Buy a LTD EC-1000 instead.
Not the MOdern the modern.
Should be 500 to compete with muse
Actually the price vs the specs is actually really good IMO. The iverness green one, not shown here, is probably my favorite. If they make a P90 version, I'd definitely consider it.
There's something special about solid mahogany without the maple cap, yes P90's definitely. I've got a 50's Tribute in worn while with P90's
it's not. this guitar is almost the same with the Tribute which you could get for $999
If you want this with p90’s get a 2014 Melody Maker. Same size, carve etc. and much cheaper!
Still to expensive can’t collect all the colors
I bought a LP studio in 2009, new for € 700,00 the price of this Lite is expensive only for a Gibson logo. Sometime Gibson go out of the world: prices and numbers of different Les paul. Not the best way to sell and earn money, considering that Gibson has now many valid competitors.
Well, considering Gibson has employees that demand top tier pay and healthcare benefits, you as a consumer pay for that.
@@ironnads7975 in every democratic states these happens. Only in commy reign people are used like slaves
I like both guitars, and I dont have a problem with the price tags.
Gibson guys, are you there?
Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite....I don't think so! Call it what it is which is a Gibson Studio Modern Lite or Gibson Special Modern Lite
C'mon Gibson... This is a under 1k guitar....
Got to add 20% biden/socialist inflation. Come on demoncrats!
I agree for what they’re asking, I’d pay the extra couple of hundred bucks for the studio.

Any ideas of others very light guitars with two HBs?
@@huli8557 "Maybach"
1599??? PRS DGT SE over this anyday or any PRS SE guitars are more worthy than this
€1500 ? No way...
How do people don’t have back problems standing and holding that weight
They must have eaten their veggies.....
1500, for Gibson's entry level guitar? Sorry, I'm out.
Ich mag euch jungs 🤷♂️👍
Gibson has to lower their price .its wayyyyyy too expensive for what you get.i just bought a 2nd hand epiphone les paul slash burst for 300 euros and its mint and plays like a les paul.come on gibson relax.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You SJW communists added 20% inflation to every guitar and amp.
That's not even a comparison, so maybe you should relax? This guitar is a lighter version, still a Gibson, not Epiphone, it's got all the tone of the classic LP, thinner body, with belly cut and arm contour, it's pleked which is another added feature that I don't even think these guys mention, thinner neck but still solid and a beautiful SATIN finish for those of us who hate gloss necks. You can't compare a brand new Gibson to a used Epiphone, no matter the model. It's just not the same animal.
Jazz guitar is like a spider's web spun on LSD. Doesn't work very well in most cases.
Why do people complain about the price? Everything is getting more and more expensive and also you can buy cheaper guitars literally everywhere. They are indeed expensive but compared to what? If you are looking for a Les Paul made by Gibson then either save the money or buy one of the countless copies (which can be awesome but never duplicate the original).
A few years ago when Gibson made sub 1k guitars people complained about the build quality. Now that the quality is much more consistent (which increases production costs) people complain about the higher prices. Some things don't change.
Also, go to the grocery store and look at those prices. Or fuel your car... That hurts every single time. 🤷♂️ //Kris
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Wtf are you guys talking about? 1500? Just make the guitars in Mexico. It is cheaper and more skilled workers over there. No one cares about made in the USA. Keep custom in the USA. No one really complains about Fender Mexico guitars. It is the most recommended guitar. They need to have a midway point between 1500 gibson and epiphone china that isnt epiphone.
@@flamex4realthen people complain about it being made in China or Mexico. Or they complain about a Les Paul without a flame top, or without binding, or with imitation mahogany... etc. And then complain when they get it, because it'snot a "true" Les Paul. Basically, a never-ending circle around people who are simply just looking to complain...
Ya no thanks
I don’t want a Les Paul that doesn’t feel like a big old Les Paul…
Don’t get one
Well, too bad. Because simply by watching this video you now HAVE to buy a Lite one. Sorry, but you'll need to be more careful next time.
How many times are they gonna release a thin les Paul and call it “modern” I’d buy a MIA SG or Strat before ever considering this thing.
You pay for the brand. Gibson Guitars are poor quality for the money.
My FGN LS30 and the McCarthy SC594 are much more better than any Les Paul i had in my hands at the Thomann Shop in Treppendorf.
Hm ... actually i would not like to choose one of these but rather give a fair warning
- Gibson guitars are actually not that exceptional and not built very well
- they tend to be overpriced too 'cause you are paying for the brand name on the headstock
- if you do want an HH alternative just have a look at the current Squier & Fender and HarleyBenton and ... Tele HH range:
- lots of beautiful axes with the perfect scale length of 25.5" (think VH ... rip.)
- detachable and interchangeable necks are a + too
- play genuine doesn't make you any better skillwise
I don't think these guitars will win a lots of hearts, wood don't matter electronics is the key
