    That Modern Lite really reminds me of a The Paul II I had back in the 90’s! But those colors and that slim neck I bet would really make it a great player!

    The Gibson Modern Lite is a whole new Gibson you have to own fantastic craftsmanship try one! You don't buy these because of how they look you buy this because of how it plays. It's an absolute weapon for when you need an edge to take on the competition. A players guitar not a posers guitar.

    That white binding does make the blue pop, it’s a beautiful guitar. A former instructor bought one of the first Les Paul Supreme, it had beautiful wood grain. My favorite was his blonde Gibson L5 CES, he had the neck shaved for a flatter fretboard radius and it played like butter, back of headstock was stamped Not For Resale, it was the best Gibson I’ve ever played.

  • @FabioLovaglio
    @FabioLovaglio Год назад +37

    The new lites are really great concept HOWEVER: pricewise is still crazy expensive, competitors can offer way more at that price point, if it's supposed to be a working musician guitar the price needs to reflect that and most importantly, I could hear some tuning issues comparing to the other models of this video, for 1400 pounds that's unacceptable in this day of age.

    • @Somenite
      @Somenite Год назад +9

      You're right that you can get tons of great guitars for that money or less. However, these are made in the USA which requires paying US wages and meeting US EPA and OSHA requirements. That is especially true if your spraying nitro finishes like Gibson is. Making stuff in places like China or Indonesia is just cheaper because you are dealing with very little regulation and pay/benefit costs. If you think about it, are there any other USA made guitars selling for $1500 or less these days besides the Paul Tribute or the Fender Performer which are both $1400?

    • @FabioLovaglio
      @FabioLovaglio Год назад +1

      @@Somenite Fair enough but they should at least provide a guitar that doesn't have tuning issues for that price, I mean seriously, when he plays clean on the thinner strings it's so obvious.
      They took all that trouble for that cool contour heel and they fail on a problem that's been there since gibson has born.
      I know they know how to fix that issue as you can tell with other models in this video that issue isn't there. Just buffling!

    • @JIMIIXTLAN
      @JIMIIXTLAN Год назад +1

      Just because musical savants with perfect pitch can watch a video for 30 seconds and conclude the guitar is out of tune does not mean the guitar has tuning issues. Yes I know Les Paul's in general need to be tuned more often than, let's say a telecaster but that is the nature of the beast, if rock solid tuning stability is your number one concern a guitar with a Gibson style headstock may not be the guitar for you.

    • @FabioLovaglio
      @FabioLovaglio Год назад

      @@JIMIIXTLAN buddy, the other models in this video don't have that issue which can only mean two things: either the player in this demo was negligent in tuning the guitar or the guitar itself has some tuning issues, consider also that can redo takes for video like this it's safe to assume that particular model is constantly out of tune.
      If they know how to build a guitar that stays in tune, I'm expecting that they do it at that price.
      I refuse to accept the idea that a guitar that stays in tune is a premium feature for 3 grand guitars, f**k that!

    I just got a new Kramer SM-1 figured top and it has a kind of neck-thru design that makes the higher notes easily accessible and it just feels great. Loaded with Seymour Duncans and push/pull features. Sounds incredible. Also has a Floyd Rose 1000 bridge that stays in tune wonderfully. I hear Gibsons dont keep in tune very well. Kramer was $1200 which is around $400 cheaper than a Studio or Modern Lite. Think about it. Enjoyed the video and I like the second guitar with the figured top. It sounded the best to me.

    This is what I've been wanting for so long. I've been holding off on buying Les Paul purely because of the weight. My SG Standard is my go-to guitar, not just because of its high fret access and fantastic resonance, but also because it does not wear me out when I'm standing to play it. All of the guys that have been playing since they were teenagers in the 80s are saluting Gibson right about now! I'm pretty sure it's not just the old-timers, though! Great move Gibson!

The latest I got was a Yamaha Revstar which is ridiculously well made and similar specs to these Studios. After this video, I'm quite sure I'm going for a Modern Studio.

    My The Paul II ('98) is sitting right beside me and it is virtually identical; same pickups even. The only differences I see are Kluson-style tuners and no pickguard (and The Pauls originally came with a HSC -- I still have the OHSC with mine! -- sucks that they cheaped out on those). They could have improved on the design by adding a bound fretboard. I find it kinda interesting that they don't admit this; it is virtually the same guitar -- it looks like they literally just took the TPII plans and sent them back to the production floor.

    The one thing that turned me off about a studio model was the gold painted on "Gibson" logo. I would have always gone for the classier look of the inlaid pearloid lettering, so I was hesitant to buy a studio model, as it just wasn't attractive to me aesthetically. Now, if the price-point is good, I'll be looking at picking one of these up in the future. It's a nice-looking axe. The studios of the past sounded great they just didn't please my eye like this one does.

    The neck heel looks cool, though.

    Personally, I am Not a Fan of push pull knobs,this demo confirms this for me. That's why I choose to reach for different guitars for different tones, because one guitar cannot replicate true P-90s tone... I prefer to keep my vintage 10 lb Les Pauls.

    The modern studio almost sucks me right in but I think not including locking tuners is a huge miss. I only own historic Gibsons at this point and respect Gibson’s passion to honor its past but it’s the MODERN collection guys. All of the guitar makers out there making more “modern” instruments in its presumed price range include locking tuners. Also considering it’s a new finish, if we want locking as replacement is it going to look goofy because it’s not a direct match?
    The concept is fantastic and look forward to playing one, but to lure people into the brand, they are going to more than likely want locking tuners, or at minimum won’t complain from them being included.

    The sounds that came out of LP's from the early days of the last 60+ years came from the heavier LP's of the day. That's the sound that made LP's legendary! Personally, the 'new' modern, lighter guitars aren't of interest to me. I'm not so weak that I can't strap on the guitar that delivered the awesome sound that made the guitar so desirable in the first place. The guitar that Leo originally designed. Who wants a LP 'light'?

    The lites are the most promising in terms of reaching a younger demographic, but the price will still keep them away. I noticed that almost no knew artists are using Gibsons. If yall just made the LP special with p90s or humbuckers and offered way more color options while trying to source darker woods for fret boards or use different dark woods to make it look better. The light color, dusty looking fretboard, just isn't it. Also, keep the thinner light weight design of the lite would also help, too. You're welcome.

  • @tomM130

    The Studio Modern looks appealing. Too bad about the non-locking tuners. Sorry but, to me, the satin finish looks cheap. Gloss always brings out the detail of the wood. BTW I actually prefer the plain top to these flame maple tops you see everywhere. I might add that at the beginning of the video it is stated that all these are available on the Gibson website. This is not true regarding the Studio Modern. Leading to some confusion in the comments. Also, I would be very tempted by the LP Modern Figured if it was offered in some more reasonable colors.

    no one from Gibson will read this, but just in case, a little tip on push/pull pots.
    pulling out a push/pull pot may be quicker than a pedal, but consider the "rule of cool". pushing the pot back in looks cool, you give it a light hit with the edge of your hand, it pops in, you look cool. pulling it out DOESN'T look cool.
    USE PUSH/PUSH POTS. remember the rule of cool, your guitars are too expensive not to. why do people want a Gibson these days? they're cool.
    they can be cooler.

    Let's not be confused. This is a coil split. PRS has been putting a resistor in the split circuit for years. The fact that Gibson is using caps here does not make it a tap. Taps are in the coil. Splits are between coils. Period.

    It sounds just like a Les paul. I was thinking about buying another one, but I bought the prs and I have no regrets. When I play out with the prs, the weight is really comfortable when you have a 4 set song list. I also picked up a revstar by Yamaha, do yourself a favor and play the revstar before you purchase this extremely over priced, minimal quality Gibson. You might thank me.I have done 3 shows with the revstar and my prs, and I just can't imagine needing a Gibson for the prices they areaskingforthem. And, again, I do love the les paul, but for Tone, weight and playability of the prs and the revstar, I have every Tone I need to get a gig done. I'm 64, and I have been playing since around 7 years old, so I have owned many guitars and amps over the years, and I have a Les paul Traditional that I played for a while but now she just sleeps in her case.
