- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The Ford GT40 is one of the world's most stunning and recognizable race cars. It combines a drop dead gorgeous and curvaceous body with a massive engine and an unbeaten racing pedigree against Ferrari that makes it one of the most iconic race cars of all time. In this exclusive TFLcar video we visit Superformace in Southern California to check our their version of this iconic car that was blessed and modified by Carroll Shelby. Yes you too can own a new GT40. A new car that is carefully crafted to even the smallest detain to match either the Mark I and Mark II GT40 that went on to win almost every important race that it entered.
These cars are so freaking gorgeous in comparison to cars today... these are just so much more beautiful, timeless, and authentic. All of the super cars today look kinda soulless, and robotic. Too techy.
I spotted a FORD GT40 in person myself. Check it out in my channel and let me know if you like it. Leave me a comment if you sub, I sub back.
Women dont like the GT 40 ;It is prettier than most of them.(There ARE, of course, many noticeable exceptions)
billautotech
So true... 😉
Did your wife leave you?
When you own a GT40, don''t need extras ... as a wife ;-)
I am a woman and that is GT my dream car. Its beyond beautiful tbh
Bennie Ag you would look great in one 😎
He's a great guy, because he is keeping the gt40 legend alive; with cars that are so close to the original build spec's !!
Damn I love the GT40. I love the original run and the mid-2000's run so much. I don't know who in the world thought the new 2018 or 2019 design was a good idea, but it is fugly.
Agreed. The original design is breathtaking time and time again.
I would have this way over that "new" GT40. Even the 2005 version looked better than the new one.
Agree. The curves over the body over the wheels are key. The modern versions don't have that
The Mark II at the end sounds badass as hell...as a Ford guy since I was a kid (got it from my Dad) GT40 is my all time fantasy car...only 40 inches tall...luv it!!!
Love Lance's enthusiasm. I freaking love this car.
Correction, it was the MK-II that dominated the 24 hrs of LeMans. The MK-I's mostly caught fire during the races and none finished.
Correction correction:
Small block cars scored the first podium wins for GT40. At Daytona in 1965 they took first and third. A Cobra Daytona took second.
The Mk II was an amazing machine, and it did it's job. It is my personal favorite.
However, John Weyer, whom always advocated the small block, came back and won LeMans in 1968 and 1969 with small block Mk I body style cars. Make no mistake, the Mk I was a winner too.
Damn I love this car...what a beauty! And I'm short enough to drive it! Not rich enough to pay for it though...so there's that.
Looks like a great company. You can tell this guy actually cares and loves what he does. Very passionate. I love the history of this car. I'm 28, I have a 13 mustang 5.0 and I love it. This car makes you appreciate where Ford has come from. How America and England worked together on this. Little disappointed when I heard the price. Its way out of my reach...for now at least. Looks like you get what you pay for though. Keep up the good work guys!
It's amazing what american engineering can do when we're trying to beat another country.
Erm sorry to burst ur bubble but the original GT40 is British
except this is an english car, made and designed in England
andyj288 You got a source for that? Considering it was made by Ford?
Snake Assault i have many
here is a few
Thoroughbred and classic cars - oct00
Octane - jan09 and Oct03
Classic Cars - Oct94 a very good read
Motorsport - Feb98
There are a number of books that are good, one of which is Ford GT40 by John S Allen
Ford based the GT40 from the Lola MK 6
Hope that helps
exactly andy and was build and assembled in slough uk =)
I could listen to the GT40 all day.
I had a Superformance Cobra Mk III and I would definitely go for the GT40 if finances permit.
Chris Amon was having one built for him around the time he passed away, a replica of the the car he raced in 1966. Did he take delivery or did someone else buy it . I am just curious because I read somewhere about it.
Superformance is king , if you got money to spend on these factory built replicas , then don't settle for second best , their commitment to quality and authenticity is second to none , love you guys , great job recreating the past , remarkable engineering and quality for your money , all of their models share a part of my heart , each one period correct and wearing a bitchin engine package
Nice GT40, I got the privilege of spotting one in person myself. Made a video of it in my channel. It’s an Awesome machine!
thank you for making a grown family man want to sell meth....i want this car bad
I spotted a FORD GT40 in person myself. Check it out in my channel and let me know if you like it. Leave me a comment if you sub, I sub back.
art vandelay I found one for 176 thousand dollars
dont get all bent outta shape over it....the car you want is called a detomaso pantera because it can hurt peoples feelings even more then this because it looks better....speed? who knows what it was after the smoke clears....
Love the cars, but also this guy from Superformance is so good in front of the camera. He should be hosting shows not only from his shop. Offer him a job!
I want all four!!!
I spotted a FORD GT40 in person myself. Check it out in my channel and let me know if you like it. Leave me a comment if you sub, I sub back.
Amazing Ford GT40!
I have to have one of these in my life. I just have to have one.
Bro, you don’t need a Radio! That where the music comes from, those pipes out the back!
Just watch the video. It's all there.
Just noticed that the red GT40 at 0:50 has Oregon plates. I WILL find you...
Not in winter.
Yep! I'm in love!!

You can drive it in Forza Motorsport.
The GT40 and the AC Cobra. British cars with American power...It's amazing what we can achieve when our two countries get together.
its a nice car, it really brings you back to the 60's.(anybody watching this in 2020?)
I am amazed by the affordability of these extraordinary, beautiful machines.
This idea of a perfect, built to new specs, old car is great. I need to find a company that does this with cars of the late 50's, then I'd be in heaven.
Gods would I love to have a GT40. Favorite car. Way out of my price range :P
Lets give thanks to Jimmy Price of Hi Tech Automotive in Port Elizabeth, South Africa,
the Company that builds these great cars along with the MKIII Cobra, the Brock Coupe,
along with a handful of other great cars that are built to precision ...
These are amazing cars. Truly beautiful. BTW, is it possible to have the windows roll down and also get AC? I heard it gets very hot inside.
great video! thanks. it would so incredible to walk into your garage and have one of these waiting for you
The Ford GT40 rides again everytime it is started up and driven. lol
Yes
I'm really digging these long video's
Without doubt one of the best looking cars ever built. I don't mean pretty This cars design says what it is. Was lucky enough to poke around a Gulf Gt40. The other car that fits this bill was the 250LM Ferrari, that was a beautiful car.Saw 2 of those 1 was raced in Australia by a David McKay who crashed it at Sandown Park in Melbourne. That car was a common site for a number of years at race meetings here; the other was the road car in a gorgeous green colour of the Australian importer of Ferraris. I saw that car in the paddock at a race meeting in Melbourne. Ford built a few road legal examples of the GT40. There was a story about those in Sports car Graphic in 1966. that I still have. It cost me 2 weeks allowance, I was very young at the time. But the Gt40 has to be my all time favourite car.
Loved this episode even learned a few things I didn't know about the gt40.
i use to love that game, memories
Incredible engineering
7:26 angels begin singing
All of these cars are wonderful. Just dont ever get in a accident. I would love to have a GT-40 with a small block injection and a roll cage.
Look at Super Performance website. There is the story of the of the original car 2.
I restored two-mid engine King Cobras. Len Pritchard recreated the modified Monaco alloy bodies.
I can see where this car would be my "Mistress". lol. The car just has a look of going 200 mph while it's parked. I remember back in 1984, a friend had a 1965 Excaliber, I did all the mechanical work on it, Studebaker chassis, 327/350 Chevy engine, borg-warner T-10 4 spd, 10 bolt posi, fiberglass/aluminum body=2450 lbs. People pull up alongside and staring over and inching over into my lane, had to gas it and get out of their way, lol. Yeah, you really have to be alert when driving classic cars.
If I buy one if these I would want the ken miles paint on it
Great vid and an absolutely epic car.
0:48
That;s a GT43, you can recognize it by the little bubble.
GT43 DOESN'T REQUIRE A GURNY BUBBLE ITS 43 IN HIGH
Thanks for a excellent mini documentary.
No I loved the black one, as a Ford GT 2006 owner I would love to have one Superformance GT40 next to it in the garage. But what I loved most with this video was that he reminded me of my idol Arnold Schwarzenegger :)
Cheers ///
Story: My boss who was into Porsches big time was offered a GT-40, local dealer had it in inventory / off the books and they were looking to get rid of it. Price ? $8,000 IIRC. Problem was insurance.
In school a fellow classmate talked about his dad having a REAL BRAND NEW PORSCHE 917.
Thought he was just talking BS until I went to his house, he opened the garage door and we rolled back the car cover.
Story is he was a PORSCHE DEALER and was looking for a 906 and factory had spares enough to build a couple. BRAND NEW, but no racing history on chassis...IIRC $ 30 or 40k.
I wonder if you could drive the 917 on the street
i want one.
i wouldnt care if they built it on a stock mustang chassis with roll up windows as long as it had that body just to get the price down to mustang levels. id still buy one
a true classic!
Is Richard Stewart still around? He had the Safir Gt40 Mark V collection in the 90's.
amazing video; loved it.
cant wait to get one
"i like it because it is an original copy of a real car"! hahahahaha yeah absolutely sir
this is the most beautiful car ever.....
guy talks about other GT 40 replicas being fiberglass....I appreciate the work he's done BUT I will NEVER have 170,000 to spend on a car (and a car that can only be used recreationally)...so it'll be fiberglass for me!
Actually Shelby did not want the 427 in the car. He liked the 289. He wanted his card light and nimble, not heavy and brutish.
Great cars
Maybe in my next life.
Wow, that's the original especially built for Dan Guerney who was 6'7" tall, so they had to put a 'bubble in the roof , for his head!
I want one. Gunmetal. Black decals. Black wheels with white script.
How about the Mk IV
Ford GT-40, the best of both worlds. Superb handling and aerodynamics thanks to Brits and the massive, reliable, godly sounding, horsepower monster of a V8 thanks to the US. Say what you will, but this car is the sexiest automobile ever created thanks to Ford, Lotus, and of course Carrol Shelby.
CorvetteCoonass It was actually LOLA who designed and built all the chassis. I think they mention Broadley, the chief designer somewhere
Bill English It started life as a development of an existing LOLA car with a small 2 litre. Shelby only got involved after the car had won a LOT. John Wyer Automotive was the major developer of the car
Bill English He's just selling his replica, not really giving out much info about the GT40. Pointing out options and advantages of his replica. He's trying his hardest to make it American but his only reference is to the MkIV in '69. The only Real American car to win LeMans, all the others were JW cars. Most of this video is marketing for a replica company not fact.
+Bill English Let's get a few facts straightened out here. The original design DIDN'T win a lot, neither as a Lola or the original Ford GT40 mk 1. In fact, both '64 and'65 were a washout. John Wyer had no success at all in the early years with the car, which is why they brought in Shelby, and then Holman Moody. The wins started to come with the Mk2 in '66 with the big 7 liter engine in the mark 2. The cars were ideally suited to long fast tracks. in 68 both the mark 2 and mark 4 were outlawed because of the 427 engine, for the next four years only 5 liter engines were allowed at the top end. The 68 and 69 winners were both Ford small block 5 liter engines, based on their street windsor small block, in the original spec mark 1 car design. The Mark 4 didn't run in 69. The car that won in 69 was the same body and chassis as the car that won in 68, but with the smaller 5 liter engine. Ford pulled out their factory support at the end of the 69 year, having proved their point; that they could, seemingly at will, beat Ferrari at his own game. They would further that by supporting the design of the Cosworth Ford DFV, the winningest engine in F1 for years to come (technically, Cosworth designed the engine, but without Ford's $$$$ it might not have been as good as it turned out to be, we'll never know). During the time while the Cosworth Ford DFV was running, it wasn't unusual to see every other car on the grid with the same engine except the Ferraris (I guess Enzo still had his pride). Ferrari never again won the prototype sports car races, and didn't win again in F1 until the DFV was getting long in tooth. Collectively, Ford and the DFV kept Enzo out of the winners circle for 9 years straight, and the they alternated for 5 more, before Ford again took 3 in a row before the era of the turbos entered F1 and sealed the end of the DFV's racing life, after 15 years.
+CorvetteCoonass Lotus had nothing to do with it they were to busy with F1
what do these go for? I know the cobras around around 60-70k, but i can't find pricing on the gt40s. Help?
Magnificent dream machine.
Whats the price on mk1 and mk2 with an engine and transmission from these guys?
+CC S As the saying goes, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
Wow, what an ac cobra fan. There's like fifty in there
How tall do you have to be to need the gurdy bump on the roof ?
vandohky helmet ?
it doesn't have power mirrors or windows does it?
Want 1
NOW*** I loved !!!
Dream car!!!
I'm surprised that most of the GT40's are being bought up by Europeans, all I ever hear is them bitching about our "sloppy, big-engined, bad-handling, only-good-for-drag-racing, heavy sports cars". Apparently some of them get it.
I think it's pretty honest of them. Some might believe that American sports cars are disrespected because they're American. But the GT40 shows that if you make a simply masterful sports car, those same people will recognize.
+tecdessus A bit of a stretch!... It took Ford and Carroll Shelby to make these things work and win Lemans.
+landyman33 Better read a comparison between a basic Chevrolet Corvette vs a Porsche 911. The 'Vette wins in all performance categories and costs substantially less. Plus, it gets better gas mileage. www.topgear.com/car-news/review/911-versus-new-corvette-stingray According to the British. it also causes BMW M3,4,5 drivers to have their schwanz shrink at least 3 cm. Up next the Ford GT40. Too Bad Ferrari.
+cybertree your right. limy auto jouralists lagh at our cars yet we can hardly get thier cars to even run, the most expensive cars in england are the size of the average american car. british leylands are unreliable at best, and its laughable that the germans are now building englands rolls and bentleys-finest cars in the world my ass
@tecdessus - ??? I think your reply is in reverse! The Brits did the ground work in creating this car, but it took (not Ford) but Shelby American and Holman-Moody to make it a winner! "Original design wasn't fault free"? Oh, it had more than enough faults, which is why it never even finished a race, let alone won it!
Don't forget the Wyer GT40 that won it twice wasn't a Shelby car....... also Shelby gets all the credit but what he did was take the Eric Broadly design GT40 (basically a Lola Mk6Gt with different clam shells) and hot rodded it in much the same way he did with the Cobra..... What John Wyer did was take the Mk1's that were still in England (never went to the US) and put his touch on it.
The Mark I GT40, Gulf car, looks so much better than the Mark II, black one. The Daytona would look so much better if they would remove the clown shoes and put on original 15 inch wheels.
1968 Mark 1 ?
Nothing like the original GT40 all new versions don't have the same heritage, for a better word.
Noel Dickson Yeah but the original ones cost millions... And they have the same performance if not better and are licensed and approved by ford. These are not kit cars.
Why does the interviewer keep backing away? Can't hear the man speak!
v8 with ITBs
To bad it wasn't the number 1 gt40 from 1966
I'll take a black mkII without the numbers and stripes
My dream garage v8 club😴:
Ford gt, shelby daytona coupe 427, shelby cobra 427, 67 shelby gt500e 440 windsor , 67 shelby gt350r.. 😲 Oh, I just wake up before I get the chance to ride them.. 😭
Add 2014 Shelby Super Snake
@@maristoldboys5466 oh yes i forgot that..✍👍
It was a big shame that Ford only built the 'new' Ford GT in left hand drive. You would have thought a percentage could have a RH configuration, to pay homage to the original. As far as wheel spinners are concerned, all knock-off spinners have a counter thread on the opposite side - eg Ferrari Daytona's to name just one of many.
Why is the no.2 Ford so popular even tho that ken miles is more famous so the no.1 should be more famous
Excellent video!!.Ford GT-40 number one in 2015 for a reason.
+Kelly Looney Take it up with Ford, you fool.I've never seen sooo much crap come out of a Globe subscribers mouth...LOL!!.Keep subscribing to it,but don't take your troubles out on the rest of us.
+rob biddlecombe Ford destroyed Ferrari. This car is so fast, handles so well, they would purposely pass Ferrari's ONLY in the curves, sometimes even being so bold, letting the Ferrari's pass in the straights, then the GT-40's would make passes on the Ferrari's only in the curves again.Only Bugutti gives this car a hard time.
+Kelly Looney Read the history for yourself looney-tunes.The Bugutti is the LAST frontier for Ford.Sorry, keep trying.
+Kelly Looney What you POSTED was T-H-I-R-D PARTY IN-FOR-MA-TION!!.This GLOBE magazine garbarge is NOT FROM FORD!!.On my THREE(3) GT-40's,the I.D.plate says,MFG BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY...my GOD are you that dim-witted or what?.What part of MFG.BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY don't you understand???.I would not have spent that kind of money for cheap clones!!.Ford STILL owns full rights to this car.(GT-40)Someday I hope that you stop subscribing to 3 party information and call Ford headquarters, they will tell you the same thing.
+Kelly Looney No propaganda Looney-tunes,its BEEN out here on the net for years,in your case, the NIT-WIT-NET is STILL in the dark on this one.
You can build your own to a beautiful standard google/facebook GT Forte for details.
Could you even drive these type of cars on a day to day basis?
+Gold fire You can, but they're not practical. Ground clearance is very short so you will bottom out the car a lot, costing lots of $$$ to fix. The thing is loud, so you'll go deaf unless you wear ear protection (which isn't legally allowed BTW). The doors need a wide swing to open, so you can't just park it next to another car. And side & rear visability sucks, as does the 7 miles per gallon. Otherwise it's a great car.
Shelby din`t do anything to the GT40`s, he handled a Mk1 over to Holman-Moody who totally rebuilt the car as they did with the tiny AC Cobras. All the racecars were built by Holman-Moody in LA while the 289cui-equipped road-versions (based on the Mk1) were built in Britain. This one here is a road version.
The GT40 was built from 1964 to 1969. Holman-Moody (CA,USA) are still able to build "originals" based on their old drawings of the car btw
wow
it would be very interesting to see how an american company would fair in lemans
Ford bring the GT Back for 2013 or 2014
Thanks for your comments. FYI: we'll have a few more of these videos over the few weeks and yes I walk away from the speaker ;-)
I think the Mk. IV is prettier.
+Dean Murphy Most enthusiasts aren't even aware of the Mk IV. They only remember the earlier cars that kept winning.
@Buelligan88 - You're contradicting yourself - Any and all "enthusiasts" know very well what the Mark IV represented. Only neophytes and wanna be race fans might be unfamiliar with the it. Get real!!
Hello they are all gonna drive it fast. My point THEY SHOULD ALL HAVE ROLL CAGES. THE SELL MODELS THAT DONT
nice story about this beautiful car but the cameraman should learn how to use a camera before doing a story on a car as great as this...gives you motion sickness to watch this
Mr south africa, this guy is a sales if I ever, not sure how true it is apparently this guy was born in the north pole and managed to set up a shop selling icecream to eskimos
What does he mean by "427 stroker"? Is it an engine that was stroked to 427 from a smaller engine or an engine that was a 427 that has been stroked to something larger?
it more than likely started life as a 351w and got a crankshaft with a longer stroke to increase C.I. to 427
they even make small block valve covers that look just like the FE series ones
thats on car sales
That gt40 dominated that ferrari
in my dreams
teehee..."This owner didn't want the gurney bump...he's probly only 5'7, 5'8..." And his auto of choice was a GT40, huh? Wonder why...
