  • ‪@KingGizzardAndTheLizardWizard‬ just blows me away. Point blank. This is the second album of theirs I've reacted to, the first being "Nonagon Infinity". While I'm currently undecided which I liked better, I can't deny that this was an artistic mind-blower.

This is the Gizz masterpiece. The lore alone is enough to create an obsession, the sound will melt your brain. Genius.

"Searching..." has my favorite Gizz line
"My body's not a temple, it is a vessel"
it just goes so hard for me and idk why

This album, to me, is musical perfection.
I "discovered" Gizz years ago. I'm not sure of the exact circumstances, but for some reason while playing Borderlands 2, RUclips was playing something much less significant in the background and auto played into Nonagon Infinity. Those 2 things go together like wine and cheese, and for a solid three to four days all of my free time was spent shooting robots to Robot Stop, killing insectoid monsters to Big Fig Wasp, and melting my foes with radiation infused weaponry to Gamma Knife. This was the first memory of Gizz I have, and one that will be seared into my brain for as long as I live. Then, for some reason, I didn't listen to any more of their stuff for about 2 years.
At some point, this album popped up in my recommended. I recalled really liking Nonagon, so I thought: "Why not? I need something to play in the background while doing ~whatever it was I was doing at the time~ anyway?" That "whatever" it was I was doing was dropped pretty damn quick xD I got my headphones out and decided to give this a proper listen. My life hasn't been the same since. This album in particular needs to be experienced with headphones on, eyes closed, and fully swept up into the voyage the music and lyrics lay out before you. I've always been a fan of proggy music. Polyrhythms, odd time signatures, instrumentations and lyrics arranged *just so* as to demand one's attention. Lots of music you can hear and have a good time. This, and lots of other good prog, classical, jazz, etc. absolutely requires you to *listen* .
It's still hard to put into words the euphoric feeling that The Fourth Colour gave me the first time listening to it. A lot of music over the years has given me that sensation of tingles rising from your stomach up to the top of your head, pulling the corners of your mouth up along with them as you cannot help but move along to the rhythm (looking like a spastic doing it with just how much of it is layered on top of itself in this music mind you) and to be lost, totally, in the trance-like state that only the greatest music can lift you into.
Since then, so much of my listening hours have been sunk into anything and everything Gizzy. Honestly, the only thing I can berate this band for, is that I'm having a hard time listening to other stuff nowadays. The output of these guys is just so immense and diverse that, whichever mood I find myself in, whichever genre I want to listen to, 90% of the time, the first thing I land on, Is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
TLDR: Best band in the world.

Polygondwanaland is Gizz's first proper foray into odd time signatures and polyrhythms. While at first listen it is less embracing than Nonagon, it is in my view more mature and draws the audience to listen more deeply. It is perhaps my most favourite - as of 19/7/23.

This album is such a joy to listen to!! If you know a bit about music it's so mindblowing to hear these complex rythms while still sounding so clean. They are really good with their instruments and know what they are doing. And I love seeing someone who can appreciate that ^^
Maybe check out Fishing for Fishies next. Nonagon, Polygon and Fishes are (in my opinion) their most well concieved albums and straight bangers from front to back! (would say Fishies is my favourite though! :))

If you're into synths and odd rhythms, try Butterfly 3000. There's a music video for each song in the album, and it's one of their most psychedelic albums.
Otherwise I'd recommend Flying Microtonal Banana, get deep into those microtonal sounds.

FMB is one of their best imo, every song is very memorable

Just sad I couldn't attend live, but this is good as well.
Obviously, I have to give out my recommendations for the next time. (Sorry in advance for the length)
If you want to see just how crazy they are in terms of diversity, there are three albums consisting of 'leftover' songs. Now 'leftover' sounds pretty bad, but you have to see it like this: The songs in these albums did not become leftovers because they're bad, but because they didn't fit the very specific ideas of each album. The songs all slap like hell on their own despite being thematically disconnected.
Out of the three, I'd recommend Omnium Gatherum, as it has the biggest amount of diversity and some of my favorite songs, including an 18-minute-no-breaks-thrash-jam that will surely overwhelm you with joy.
However if you lean towards something more thematically connected, I can recommend the following albums:
-If you want something super heavy go for 'Infest The Rats Nest' and 'Petrodragonic Apocalypse' (not using the full name here)
-If you crave a full narrative in the style of 'Nonagon infinity', 'Murder Of The Universe' Is exactly that.
-If you want something more chill after 'The Fourth Color', 'Changes' offers a more jazzy vibe with energetic sections spread throughout (Astroturf is from that album and is one of the more
energetic songs) and one underrated chill album would be 'Paper Mache Dream Balloon' which is entirely analog and features no synths, or pedals at all.
-If (and I promise this is the last one) you want to explore microtonality, you can chose between three albums. 'Microtonal Flying Banana' - their first one, 'KG' and 'LW'.
out of those, 'LW' is my favorite and 'KG' is my least favorite, but you can't really go wrong with any of these.
Okay, this comment became a bit longer than I intended, to the point where this is barely a recommendation and more of a guide. I hope it still helps though!
I really enjoy your content, and even though you stated that your musical background was meagre, listening to your analyses is super interesting and entertaining and I think you underestimate your own understanding of this stuff.
The thing about King Gizzard is that while obviously not everyone will enjoy every single album and even though music is subjective, I dare to say that they don't have a single album that isn't at least good. So whether you decide to follow our recommendations or not, I'm certain you'll enjoy whatever album comes next as much as we enjoy listening along. :D

    Prolly gunna wanna land.
I had jammed a couple live gizz and became a fan. Decided to wait to hear a full album until I had acid and mushrooms. This was the record I jammed first. When the "I dont want to be a crumbling castle" vocal part hit I just broke down, tears of amazement and joy, as well as fear and truth. It's a stunning album. I've listened to Gizz exclusively since. Been about 6 months now nothing but gizz. Love your reactions, I literally have spent 6 months analyzing Gizz just like you but not on stream or anything. You have a badass musical ear and opinion. Yall gotta trip and listen to them. Just trust me on this one. Fishing and sketches are a completely different thing while tripping. Theres a part on one album that they put the entire song into a box. Theres another album every song comes together at the end. Another one where they light a fuse at the end and it sizzles till it pops. Try listening on lsd or psilocybin or better yet both. Trust me.

As a psychonaut (who's favorite bands are literally "Psychonaut" and King Gizzard and All Them Witches) I can confirm I gizz differently. I'd go as far as saying the gizz do "me" differently. Peace & Love, I have to catch your glorious self on twitch! Finally the reaction to this album I was "searching..." for. My dude, I can't tell you how important this record is to my existance. It makes me feel understood, whole, wild, calm, mystified and most important of all: sane. Thanks to music like this, I still feel sane in this wild ride of existance!
