TOY DOLLS were mad
05 deirdries a slag
This video is a celebration of the north of England's most famous punk rock outfit. We're Mad captures the band at their best. Not so much a set of songs as a series of short stories. Packed full of witty lyrics and mad maching gun guitar licks

The most english thing I've ever seen.
Yep, by far far...
Damn right!!! English and proud!!!
Wot's up wiv these bleedin' yung geezers?
Most Definite!
You slagggggg
Don't know if anyone cares, but this was filmed at Penshaw Monument, on the outskirts of Sunderland. You can see it from my house. You can also park your car at the bottom of the hill and walk up to it and, well, do what you like when you get up there! Proud moment!
lol, you cant do what you like when you get up there, i mean what if you want to Smash it up
Dont live far away...i did wonder...n ye i see the pillars now
You know Deirdrie?
@@erikwhitmire3050 wey she was on the telly man n she got jailed...the papers had a campeign to release her 😳😳😳 musta been fa news that week 🤣🤣🤣
Proper slag I've heard @@erikwhitmire3050
So under-rated, this band deserved a lot more recognition. I'm glad I got to see them live!
Thats why this jewel went under my radar. Few of my pals said Toys suck. So I didnt copy that casette. So i get it after 36y... fuck life
Amigo they have all the recognition they deserve... who knows knows
Oh I don’t think you realise the recognition !!
All their shows sold out and they aren’t smalll either !!
@Ralph Reilly by who? The ‘supposed’ rock critics. TD’s are never mentioned as one of the greatest bands in the genre.
YEah, i just discovered them some years ago.
nellie the elephant was my gateway drug :P
I have come from listening to Dead Kennedys to Toy Dolls. Just what you need to listen to on a friday night in 2020. Almost reminds me of loud, riotous nights back in the 80s. Good times.
Fuck, yeah, loved the 80s, the birth of NWOBHM, thrash, death, and even these guys got a play on a Friday night, bt it had to be fisticuffs in frederick street, can't remember the amount of times i fell over while bouncing along to fisticuffs, happy days they were 👍😊😊
Thenandnow I arrived here after listening to The Specials. I’ve never heard this before. I love it. 52 Year old mother in Australia. There’s a fair bit of contemporary Japanese punk bands that sound like this, accents aside. Slag. Great word and totally underused these days.
Chuck some Anti Nowhere League and Charged G.B.H in there as well, a few tinnies and sorted! :) all best
Brings it all back, I'm now 54 where has the time gone x
I can't remember but luckily some of me mates took some photos as they were taking my wallet.
Perhaps the most capable and talented yet unknowen, under-rated & unappreciated UK musician/performers ever
Their actual tour in Germany was much better than I exspected. I visited two gigs of them, the performance was perfectly straight, without any annoying interruptions by too much jokes. But both places (Wiesbaden, Saarbrücken) weren't really crowded.
So true.
No
US punks know they rule.
@@deafanddestructiononthepis3149 so so I love punk from around the world but yes I listen to more us punk than any other but this band is pure fun punk I'll blast it from my shit Ford and dance like an idiot any chance I get
40 years of pure fun. Olga is a very distinguished guitarist.
Did we ever hear Diedres point of view on this matter ? History needs to know.
Dierdre is a character on Coronation Street.
Who cares about the option of a SLAG LOL
who cares
i need that suit
She had a Lezzie affair with ena sharples
This band will be in Slovakia in 2022, performing at a festival that yields a good chunk of its profits to children in need. Can't wait to see them.
No way!!
That's great
You will have seen them by now, hope you enjoyed the show. Their songs are brilliant, and you will have left with a grin like a Cheshire cat.
Message from 2023: How was it?? As great as I imagine??
I remember watching this as a teenager with my grandmother in 1984. She was amused that I like it so much. She kept asking me.."you like this?" and I said "Yes!"
No idea why this was recommended but so glad it was, takes me back.
I somehow got here trying to find a Simpsons clip.
On the Penshaw monument. Always knew I was nearly home when I saw it in the distance.
Shot on location on Penshaw Monument near Sunderland. The Penshaw Monument officially The Earl of Durham's Monument. The architectural style is doric tetrastyle. This 70 foot high monument is a replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens and can be seen for miles around. It is considered to be Wearside's most beloved landmark, even appearing on the badge of Sunderland Football Club.
That doesn't take away from Deirdre being a slag...
Tricha Goodison or it being in Sunderland 🤣
I used to drive the night trunk from Stockport to Gateshead every night in the early 90s. You could see it lit up from the AI heading north and it used to bug the shit out of me wondering wtf it was. Didn't find out until I could Google it.
That makes Diedre, a Royal slag. Thx for info on that detail.
Used to walk the dog up there,it's a canny hike. You know your wearside onions. Toy dolls forever.
Fantastic views from the top of penshaw, Wesherton, Shiney Rar and the beautiful western suburbs of Sunderland.
Got the Toy Dolls Idol Gossip Cover on my Right arm in ‘88
I am a Life Long Punk (54) and have shown the tattoo to Olga on many stage dive occasions
This is really good. Never heard toy dolls. I thought I was a punk a long time ago. Now I see I was wrong. These guys are the real punks
Same mate
Punks? Playing a tune that is pure 12 bar blues rock n' roll! lol
@@mikegeorge7824this is punk AF
How can you not love a song with kazoos in it! 😂🤘🤘🤘
The only time I don't like a Kazoo is that guy from the USA uses them on his Rapping records that they have nowadays, that Kendrick Lamaar may be a lyrical genius, as many have tried to tell me, but his overuse of the Kazoo is unforgivable, he even uses it to affect his voice, it is his trademark sound for some reason.
Actually its the Buzzcocks wh i saw in 1977 brian eno i saw with Roxy music 73 the undertones i saw in 79 robert fripp is a guitar 🎸 genius the rest you mention are total shite
3rd wave punk bands completely ignore
But why do you put eno and fripp in with this collection
Here come the warm jets is from 73 by eno which fripp played on and they both recorded with Bowie particularly on Heroes
I suggest you stop listening to purile bandwagon jumpers like uk snubs who are truly chuffin awful 😖
Anyone that doesn’t is probably a slag
Especially to the Coronation Street theme tune :-)
Just needs more cowbell! 😂
Aaah lived next door to these lads in Sunderland... and we had the band 'Patrick' downstairs. Toward road... wow a lifetime ago. But never flamin changed
Patrick is a brilliant band name!
@@-______-______- Patrick were a good band too...even better
It took me decades to figure out who played this song, so I could hear it again. I heard it back in the late 80s, recorded at the tail end of a cassette tape of some other band's songs, with no labels and no way of knowing who this band was. I only figured it out a few years ago. These guys are fun!
Awesome. Glad you finally found it :D
@@TD75 Yeah, but that wasn't much help when I couldn't remember the name of the song or the lyrics, let alone the name of the band. I just remembered the music.
RUclips must be one of the greatest inventions of Mankind. I searched for something entirely different and then followed suggestion upon suggestion, discovering bands I had never heard about. Getting lost in YT is the 21st Century´s version of exploration journeys deep into the uncharted unknown. Brilliant band, by the way.
Same for me, i was searching for "New York Dolls" and this was recommended to me and it's amazing!

@@blackpoolacer yes, it definitely is!!! 👍
Class act. Sunderland is full of song writing talent.
Without a doubt mate it's God's Country
These guys must surely have influenced The Futureheads.
Yes, Sunderland bands since the 60s and 70s have passed a certain style and humour down. Much like anywhere, I suppose.
Omg Penshaw Ornament 😊
I love these british bands from the 80's, absolutely beautiful :D
I'm crying because these days are gone..
We revisit this so many times ........Just so unique
I had this on Video tape years ago..love it.
Toy dolls still listening to my sons in 2022 fucking killer 🤘
Fantastic! Idk how I missed this band back then.
Saw these guys way back in' 84 at the Rowing Club, Notts supporting the Angelic Upstarts.. Fond memories
didn't know about the toy dolls until i was looking at my uncle's tattoos lol.. love them so much
sheer class still luv it 37 years later
friggin hilarious! especially the keyboard solo!
Olga what a legend. One of the first songs I covered in a band along with a few Pistols songs was you've guessed it Nellie the Elephant Toy Dolls style and he's still out there doing it.
2 years before I was born but been a massive fan for as long as I can remember pure legends

even if you never heard of the popular tv show "coronation street", this is a fun song!
Why?
@@bansheesioux5569 why?
@@blipblip88 no,, I mean what's the thing about coronation street. I said that late night
@@bansheesioux5569 Deirdre was one of the longest running actors on the show. She had affairs, and was sort of dowdy.
She still knocked me back though!
I first saw these videos when back in england we went to some boot sale and got these vhs and saw it. Laughed it out first but then the songs were really good.
Lucky to have seen them in 1985...what a freekin' awesome show!!
Great never seen this before. Great
Made me proper smile this morning 👍👍

Please someone sing this on Britain's Got Talent!
You can be sure a producer would cut this long before the final edit.
The original drummer from the TD'S used to sort the vending machines at HP in Peterlee where I worked. Lovely chap.

One of the great gigs seeing these, birds nest, Hartlepool, small pub, chocka with punks, bout 200 squeezed in. Brilliant night, pissed on newky brown an 14yrs old.
Thanks for reminding me of this band ...so silly and entertaining .
They performed this at Penshaw Monument? Wow!! 😀😀
British punk rock from the 70s and 80s is just the best !
Anybody remember a punk band from Canterbury in the 90’s called Belinda Carbuncle? Used to play at the Cardinals Cap pub, pity they never got as far as these blokes, they were just as mad. Classic tunes like ‘I am the son of a wanking monk’ and ‘Janet from planet Thanet’.
何年前だったか忘れたけど見た時の衝撃たるや。
久々に見て相変わらずの高揚感。
Those austrailian guys the chats owe these dudes something big
and the Cosmic Psychos.
Dude was literally thinking about the chats when I saw this.
Yank here, I love the Toy Dolls but the Chats don't owe anyone anything. They have managed to take an old form and inject it with something new and fresh, unlike many of today's tired "pop" punk bands.
You gotta give the CHATS a big thumbs up ! I'm an OLD PUNK ...And when I first heard them I thought THERE IS HOPE ! I'd love to see them live . I'm way too old to stage dive but still love great music
