    Thanks for braving the storm! The live composite of the lightning was terrific!! I've used it to photograph star trails. I have not tried using it for lightning.

      It is actually really easy to photograph lightning with love composit. Once you dial in the right setting, you can just sit back and relax. The camera does everything for you. The only thing you have to do is watch your nerves and keep your act together 😅 star tails is indeed a good idea. Stars are always a problem in the netherlands. Way way way too much light pollution over here. Thanks for watching grt guido

    Nice image from Toscane and lightning images look very good. I have never done it on my own, but it is worth to try it.

      The image was nice, but I don't know if I would do it again. Looking back at it, this must have been the most dangerous thing that I have done. In the beginning of the video, you see a big O structure we're I'm standing next to. During the lightning, I'm actually standing maybe 40 to 50 meters from that thing. It's not the smartest thing to stand on a hill with a giant steel structure behind you that is by far the highest point for miles... but lesson learned, safety first! Thanks for watching grt guido

    Hey man, that’s an incredible thumbnail. Made me click right away! 😂 the golden hour shots were so good. Quite calm, you wouldn’t think much about an incoming storm. Though that is one stunning lightning photo, I’ve never captured one and always wanted to but always worry about safety so I’ve never attempted 😅 good thing the wife still let you do this crazy shoot! Keep safe buddy. Enjoyed this one.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 месяцев назад

      Haha glad you liked the thumbnail. This is probably the one with the most time in it ever 😅 I actualy thought that sitting in my car would be quite safe but that storm was extreme. Wind, hail, rain and lots and lots of lightning. It just wasn't safe at all. In the beginning of the video you see that large O structure. I parked maybe 50 meters from that thing. So when that storm hit me I realised that standing so close to such a large metal structure on top of the highest hill around wasn't such a good idea during a lightning storm 😅 it was nice to experience this once but definitely not going to be my routine shots so I totaly get that you didn't do it haha. Thanks for watchibg. Grt guido

    I used to live in South Florida, where there are more lightning-related deaths per year than in the other 49 states combined. (Here in San Diego we get about as many thunderstorms as storms raining frogs.) But I’m returning to visit in December, and will probably want to try Live Composite on lightning then myself. We must occasionally put it all on the line for our art. 😅

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 месяцев назад

      No shot is worth getting injured for if you ask me. I was totaly surprised by how fast that storm was right above me. All the time that lightning was on the horizon and within a few minutes I caught up with me. Fluoride must be amazing for lightning and storm phoyography. You can practice with live compossit with flashlight, fireworks or car light. Make sure you get to know it. Instead of me going out there for the first time haha. A little more experience would probably have given a much better shot. Grt guido

    I really love Volterra (also San Gimignano, Siena, etc.), visited that region a few times now.
    I recognised that big ring on the side of the road at the beginning of the video, also stopped there to take pics a few years ago :)
    I'm curious if you attempted capturing the northern lights / sun storm a few weeks ago?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 месяцев назад +1

      There are a lot of these O structures around volterra. Some smaller and some bigger. That big O was actually right behind me when I shot the lightning storm. Probably not my smartest move to do that with a giant steel structure on top of the highest hill behind you... I think the best desssision was to get away from there as fast as possible when the storm actually became above my head. On the day when the northern lights were at its peak, I had some family obligations, so I could not go out for photography. I went the next day but didn't see it, so there is no video. But when I look back at it now, it doesn't really bother me since I've seen thousands of images. Don't really like to do what everyone else is doing 😅 thanks for watching grt guido

    • @daniel.lopresti
      @daniel.lopresti 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@GuidoVanDeWater Ah ok, didn't realise there was more than one of those structures! Hah, yes I thought the same when you said you were taking these lightning pics "right next to this big electricity pole"... eek! :)
      Yeah I find weather phenomena really fascinating, but sometimes safety is more important, for sure.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 месяцев назад +1

      @daniel.lopresti that pole wasn't that high compared to the O. I thought it was a nice contrast lightning with a electricity pole 😅 there was a short moment were i thought about walking up to the O and take a wide angle shot. Luckely my brain started working again before I did that 🤣

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 месяцев назад +1

      Haha, well, it feels like a near death experience. No, that's too much, but I was surprised by how quick the storm was straight above me. It just happened within a few minutes. Just before it looked like it kept hanging on the horizon. In the beginning of the video, you can see this giant O shaped structure on top of the hill that I was standing on. That was right behind me when I was sitting in the car. so I figured that it was a very high risk of lightning hitting that metal thing, so staying close to it was not a good idea while the storm came over me 😅 thanks for watchibg. • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  4 месяца назад

      Yes, you do need a road, fireworks, lightning. amusement parks, or else you can do some light painting with a flashlight. I've been trying to make a video on how to use it exactly, but I haven't found a good subject to do it on in the netherlands, so I totally agree with you 😅 grt guido

    Interesting video 👌 Where did you stay which was family friendly and is that region suited for photography in the middel of summer/ summer too?

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  6 месяцев назад +1

      I stayed at "hu montescudaio village" near cecina. The coast isn't realy interesting but from there it's 20 to 30 minutes inland to volterra. That is quite a nice region. Next 2 videos are also from that area. The second one has the best conditions that I've ever seen probably. But in the middle of summer? With tempraturs reaching 35 degrees and no chance on fog? I don't know if you want to be there then. I would say great for spring and autumn... thanks for watching. Grt guido

      @stigfloberghagenphotography in the middle of summer I would consider a more mountain area like Swiss, Austria, Scotland, north of Spain, madeira but tuscany is to hot and probably far to over crowded.
