Oh god brilliant hahaha. I brought my border collie pup home just over a week ago, and I will 100% be stealing this joke anytime someone meets her and comments on how intelligent they are
@@scrumbfunk just read this comment from over a month ago....that means you've had you pup for about 5 weeks.... How's it going? Are you exhausted at the end of the day just trying to keep her out of stuff and destroying things? When my 14+ BC was a pup, she had a knack for getting into trouble if she didn't get enough exercise. She slept under our bed and got bored one night and we woke up to hearing her ripping the wallpaper off the wall (we wanted to eventually remove it anyway). Tore the binding off a book in the bookcase when she got big enough to reach it. Stuff usually happened when we were sleeping so I learned to take her out for a run right before bed so she'd sleep all night. She eventually grew out of the destructive phase but man did she keep us on our toes till then. But it was fun! I hope things are going well for you and your puppy! Too many BCs end up getting put into the rescue system because they are more work than people think. But they are so worth it. Get through the puppy phase and training phase and I promise you, your BC will be the best dog you'll ever have!!
I hady border collie for 13 years until recently. We brought my friend from Scotland when we moved to Canada. Never been so sad in my life without him. Cherish your furry friends.
We had a 17 year old border collie, she was insanely intelligent. If you felt like crap she would come over and pester us until we cheered up. We had to put her down a few weeks ago due to heart failure. She had puppies and we kept one, but we had to put that one down at 15 because of cancer.
Ours lasted till 15, I grew up with her from 12 until I was 25 (she was a rescue dog so just turned 2 when we got her) if you pretended to cry she would nudge you and then jump up and lick you, if you still continued she started whimpering and then nudge you more. If we ever gave her bones she would keep pieces and put them under your bed pillow, if somene showed agression to you she would circle them and bark, if she was cleaning herself and you put your hand near her she would lick and nibble your hand clean, she died of kidney failure and it was one of the few times in my life I saw my dad cry, over a decade later we still speak of her with loving memories. My parents did get another border collie a few years later and shes sweet in her own way and very loving, the 1st time I went to their home after they got her she growled at me for a few minutes until she relaxed around me, now when she sees me she whines and runs up to me and jumps up and licks me, and likes to sleep on sofa beside me.
Have a 15 month old border and she’s an absolutely highly intelligent taught her some tricks and she adapted them to open kitchen draws to get at hidden treats and balls

My 14+ yr old BC was quite a handful when she was young. She required intense activity 3 times a day (4 during the longer days of summer) just for us to keep our sanity. Approx an hour each time. If weather prevented it, she would occupy her time by dropping a ball down the basement stairs, watch it bounce all the way down then run down to get it....for hours. Her arthritis started getting bad a few years back and now she has cancer, so she sleeps most of the day. She was a mix and I think she must have greyhound in her cause omg she was fast. I miss watching her run and I can see it in her eyes somedays that she misses it too.
Ours had arthritis too and sadly died of kidney failure at 15, and she was fast until her final year where she started to struggle to get into the car or into bath, and sometimes if she wanted a cuddle. My parents 2nd is now almost 12 and shows no sign of slowing down, she is getting more lazy with time though but still wakes them around 7am each day.
@fiamaria9266 🙂 thank you! Actually, she lasted a year after I wrote that. It was just last week that the vet told us she was starting to suffer, so we had to do both the best and worst thing any pet owner has to face. Best for your pet. Worst for you. It's heartbreaking, but I know she running as fast as she can again.
@revengenerd1 reading that your parent's BC wakes them at 7am everyday put a smile on my face!! We used to say that we didn't need clocks in the house with ours. We knew what time it was in the morning. What time it was when it was time for her 2nd run. What time it was when it time for her 3rd run. Her internal clock was better than the UTC.
I hope one day I will be able to keep a border collie, my lifestyle doesn't match these dogs needs but in spite of that I would love to have one of these dogs especially if I ever happened to live in the countryside, such beautiful and smart animals ❤️
My BC Zoey is about 3½ and she's the best dog ever. I play frisbee for about an hour a day with her. She absolutely loves it. She is so friendly and attentive. I couldn't ask for more. 🧡
I wanted to play a prank on my bordercollie so I got 3 identical balls, and was like "do you like this? Or this? Why not this? Maybe this?" and had her confused with the existence of multiple balls ...2 weeks later I see her juggling-rolling all 3 balls on the ground, moving her nose form one to the other, kinda like herding them... Prank-tease turned into a game 😂😂😂
i had a 2 border collies growing up. they were incredibly smart and obedient, we walked them off the lead everywhere, they knew the dangers of roads and not to go near people unless they came to them. of course all that went out the window if we were ever near a field of sheep, their instincts would kick in and they’d be off trying to round up the sheep and we’d have to apologise to a very annoyed farmer lol
I grew up with a border collie called 'skitz' I guess he was a little crazy when he was younger! He always looked out for us as kids. He would bark words like 'okay'!!! Never walked on a lead! My dad would get drunk and pass out in a field but the dog would always come home 🙈😂😭❤
I’ve owned a border collie for years now, he knew how to take a walk without a leash, he knew where he was at all times, he was a smart dog. He recently died a few months ago. And we will remember him forever. Totally recommend a border collie if you’re looking to adopt a dog. 😄
I had my reservations about getting a collie. We got a full bred 3 month old collie pup. I have two young kids and she took to them straight away. I had her house trained after about a month. She learned to give paw, sit and stay after some training. I make sure I walk her at least once a day, mostly twice a day. She has took to our family life and absolutely loves playing fetch. Despite my worries about her being energetic and now settling in our family but she is absolutely brilliant. Loves to play and is very obedient. I had to put and still do alot of time in to train her, walk her and now she is a brilliant dog. I couldn't recommend collies enough but as long as you are willing to put some time in.
My boarder collie mix is a little under a year and a half old and she is starting to chill out a little bit more. I usually take her on a 2 or more mile run , lots of walks and a lot of playing in the back yard. By 6 or 7 pm my dog turns into a couch potato 😂
We had a tricolour. She lived to about age 14. She was between 6 and 10 months when I got her. The most marvellous dogs but they need plenty of company and around 4 hours total exercise every day over at least three times a day. Two hours isn't really enough. Remember they are sheep herders by breed. Not a dog to have if you go out to work or are likely to within the lifetime of the dog. They can live to age 18. Very fun as they love chasing you, and very loyal and clever.
I have 2 border collies one is all white and named Luna and the other is black and white and her name is Oreo!! They are siblings and both female and they are 3 years old!!
I have a 2yr old bordercollie and i bring him everywhere with me WITHOUT A LEASH. I treat him like he is my son and everyone in the street is amazed that we go everywhere off leash
the cons are not a reflection of the dog but of the owner. I had one for 16 years and he was the best dog ever. I have new dogs now but none will be my Bobby. I have a shrine for him with his ashes and dog bowl all his toys and brush in my house. Th e border collie is the best dog ever if you are an owner up for the challenge.
There are no down sides to a Border Collie. They're wonderful dogs and make great pets. I've had two and loved them both. We now have a rescued Aussie that is just a great a pet. You can't go wrong with either!!!
I want to get a border collie but I’ve got to know, how much exercise do you give your border collies? I have enough time in my day to take a puppy out on a walk but I’m just not really a outdoors person and I can only spend at most 2 hours outside. Should I still get one?
@@seandiaz5504 We do a 1 mile loop around our subdivision every day and let him run off some steam in the fenced back yard a couple of times a day. That seems to be enough for him. BC's and Aussie's make wonderful, loyal pets ... they really are NO trouble.
@@ranger2316 I think it is unrealistic to say they are no trouble. Owners need to know how to socialize and train them, otherwise they will herd and drive off other dogs and small children, even other adults outside the family. They tend to chase things and are very prey driven, so training with bicycles, roads, cars, cats and other pets is crucial. In fact, they can be a lot of trouble to the inexperienced owner.
@@ranger2316 I would argue that border collies display these behaviors more intensely than many other breeds, because they are bred for their work ethic and intelligence. Many other popular breeds are bred for a look, but BCs are bred for a personality. And I'm not saying that they aren't wonderful and way easier in other ways than other popular breeds. But it is unrealistic to represent this as a breed without its own quirks, and the exercise requirement is the least of it from my experience.
We have a puppy who is a pit mix. We know one parent was full pitbull and the other was a pit mix. Just found out today our puppy is a quarter border collie. And not only can you see the resemblance in her face but she has the same temperament 😂
A way to stop a dog from chasing bicycles - have a cup of cold water at the ready and aim it at the dog's face - it works every time in stopping dogs from chasing bicycles.
I have two bordercollies myself they are the most amazing breath there is. They have a amazing personality. I disagree with the time she is telling in this video. There working dogs but on the farm there somtimes not working for a week. And people always make the mistake that they think that border collies are working Al day everyday..... I do Frisbee with mine once a week and agility. And swimming if the weather is nice. And mine likes nothing beter that a good combo nap al day long 😂 So everyday 2 hours is not completely true.
I have a Border Collie mix with pitbull and I can’t stand him every night he jumps the fence and wanders around at night comes back around 5 am waiting for me to open the gate and sleeps all day. He jumps high.
My collie use to do the same but I loved him best dog I ever had he use to climb a fecking treee in my garden then from that jump on to the wall didn't see him until about 5 or 6 the next morning lol he lived for 17 years .
I have had four collies in the past and each has had his/her own personality and have been wonderful. I picked up my 'Buddy' before he hit the rescue farm and bloody hell did he surprise me. Ate the legs off of my furniture and terrorised all the cushions. Phew I thought what is this all about. He was manic and aggressive and nothing like a dog that I had had before. Everything he did was a dare ! Well perhaps the best thing I did was to keep my hands behind my back. He would jump right into my face and I'd just smile into his eyes ... he never once even tried to bite my nose. I did think oh shit, once in a while, but he grew out of the confrontation. It takes time with a Collie. Sure as hell don't tell him off or get angry because that negative energy is just pure destructive. He was so different to the other hounds that I had had that I took a DNA test for him, wondering if he was half wolf or something. It cam back Border Collie x Border Collie for 5 generations, not a spot of anything other. He is a Pedigree Border Collie even if a pain in the arse. So anyway, 18 months later I think he likes me. I sat down on the field yesterday whilst he was 100 yards away on cool grass after chasing the ball. He suddenly got up and came over and sat down beside me, and leaned on me as he panted off the heat from the earlier runs. It was really touching, not many folks like me to be honest and having him sit next to me was like not having to sit on my own table. I don't train him as such, I just tend to work with his natural tendencies and throw the ball where I know he is going to go etc. Folk's think he is well trained because I have learnt to work with him. What blessed irony that is :-) I loved this video :-)
I'm not particularly well liked either and your comment touched me. I just adopted an 11 yr old border. I love how she leans against me. I like animals more than people honestly.
They were bred to be working dogs in Northumberland, not the fields of Scotland hence the name *Border* Collie - Anglo-Scottish border. Old Hemp was from Northumberland. Get it right
well they can become very bad for those dog owners who just want a cuddle buddy and dont invest their time in the dog. Most dogs barely listen to their name properly nor can they follow simple instruction. People who are not up for that challenge should never get a border.
My mix (we think) came to me as a gift. No idea about the breed. He survived almost a year after being diagnosed with diabetes caused by Cushing’s disease. I can see how they aren’t for everyone. I’m considering another one.
I have two border collies😂😂 Sweetest babies in the world.. got them during covid tho so they haven't been in contact with like any other dog for like the first two years of their life which makes them really antsy now.. Any tips for this?? Also funny story.. didnt know about theie jumping abliilty.. and boy can they jump.we had to change the fence like four times and now it's taller than us😂😂😂
I've actually heard herding training is a way to get that 2 hour energy out! Or swimming! So, for those who are worried work would get in the way but adore border collies as a dream pet, you can do this as an extra bit. And in their early years, hire a trainer to train them while you are working. This you don't HAVE to do though.
I have a border collie rough collie mix and I’m telling you unless you live on a farm or have tons of land and/or want to train for shows or agility DO NOT GET A BORDER COLLIE. I love my baby but she has been the most difficult dog I’ve ever had to deal with, her energy is insane it never runs out so unless you have time to entertain or go for multiple long walks a day don’t get one. Yes they are very smart, she learned tricks in 5 mins she listens and is obedient. I live in a decent sized house with a big backyard and it still isn’t enough for my border collie, so please please don’t get one unless you live on a farm. If you don’t drain that energy with 3+ hours of INTENSE exercise they chew and destroy and get into everything. 85% of border collie owners return or rehome their pups in the first 18 months of getting them because people don’t realize how difficult it is to own one.
I really want a border collie puppy to train and take care of. I am homeschooled and we go hiking and running a lot. I have also had many experiences with puppies as my mom used to breed Shipoos. I am currently volunteering to train service dogs. Would it be a good idea to get a puppy? I have done TONS of research on this breed.
“Hiking alot “ how often .? I need to walk my BC at least twice a day plus 30-40 minutes minimum of mental games . The breed deserves that and if you can deliver this it’s the right breed for you. Collies and Aussie blue heelers can run 70kms a day full on working here in Australia
Anyone here have advice on getting a collie because I'm scared of how much they would need to exercise and what they would do if they didn't get enough
I have had 4 Border Collie's they are great. They love structured routine so they can understand what's happening next. If you give them a short play time (chasing the ball) in the morning and a walk at the end of the day they should be happy.
How are they with small dogs? Already have a 6 year old rat terrier. And do you guys ALWAYS crate when you’re not there? (Like at work for 8 hours a day)
Hi! i have a chihuahua and a poodle and a border collie and he does tend to bully my poodle but i’m crate training him so i’m sure if you get one it will do fine with your small dog. i don’t think it would go so great if your dog was mean to it
I would not recommend getting a border collie if you need to leave them home all day while working, especially crated. They are not happy alone and tend to go neurotic and develop bad habits as entertainment if left. They are smarter than other breeds and get bored easily. Really all they want is to be with their people.
Good lord, don't leave a border collie in a cage for 8 hours every day of its life! These are active sensitive dogs that require mental stimulation. You will end up with a dog with behavioural problems that resents you, resents the cage and acts out in ways you won't like. Don't just consider your own selfish wants--consider what's best for the dog. If you can't offer it a quality life, don't get another dog.
@@tothelighthouse9843 I never said I was going to. I actually don’t like caging my dogs in general. I’m only doing it now for potty training reasons and when she can be trusted to not destroy the house then I’m going to give her free reign just like my rat terrier has. And at some point my dogs will have to be alone when I go to work…I have a job…I mean I work from home now so that’s not a concern but when I go back however many months from now that is a reality… for most people. My dogs will have each other and me when I get home. I’m sorry if that offends anybody but that’s honestly just how the world works. I love my dogs and would never put them in a situation that isn’t okay for them. I also have to work to support them and myself so
My border collie pokes a lot but never got a nip from him, his sons.... different story.....not safe around small children. The mother , a springador, loves nipping my arse when I pick up stuff from the ground. Cats are safe around my dogs but 3 unlucky turkeys became the female's favourite meal in one week. Conclusion :I love them so much that I would be afraid to get a chihuahua :P
I have a 3 and a half months old border collie and all I have to say is ................................................................................................... please help me. lol

When you look after a border collie, he does your homework in return.
Excellent documentary, thank you so much 😃
My border collie, Scout, is the best dog ever. She does not need commands, I swear that she can read my mind. 😊
I have two, those are extraordinary they lové there human more than anything . I love them so much .
I have 2 border collies one is all white and named Luna and the other is black and white and her name is Oreo!! They are siblings and both female and they are 3 years old!!
Do 3-year-old border collies need the same huge amount of running time like they were younger?
@@zerotwocarrot2133 I think so. I think when they’re like 5 you slow it down
I have a 2yr old bordercollie and i bring him everywhere with me WITHOUT A LEASH. I treat him like he is my son and everyone in the street is amazed that we go everywhere off leash
fiercely intelligent dogs
Does chasing cars count as a job? I assume it does
Also my collie hates frisbees, only catches footballs
My border russell loves chasing motorcycles or loud v8's lol
@@6.0king then you did not train her NOT TO CHASE. Mine will not chase squirrels , rabbits , bikes or cars. 😉
@@bonnievalls5037 lol RIGHT
I Bring them to 18 holes golf course after 18 for me i already very tired but for them it is like where is my main course.
the cons are not a reflection of the dog but of the owner. I had one for 16 years and he was the best dog ever. I have new dogs now but none will be my Bobby. I have a shrine for him with his ashes and dog bowl all his toys and brush in my house. Th e border collie is the best dog ever if you are an owner up for the challenge.
one con with border collie, having to stimulate this dog every second is gonna be heck of a pain.
I have a border collie and a maltipoo. My border collie sees my maltipoo as a sheep, so he always herds him! 🤣
My border collie name is shailu, he is the best dog
My dog is a border collie and she's the sweetest. Love her so much 💝
There are no down sides to a Border Collie.
@@TheEickert True ... so can ANY dog!
But it is unrealistic to represent this as a breed without its own quirks, and the exercise requirement is the least of it from my experience.
in ALL honesty i did do + or PROBABLY will SOMEWHAT like border collies + have had a nice experience with them so far
Can a person own 1 of these dogs in a mobile home?
Pros of a border collie:
Everything
Cons: nothing
I have one 11 months old. His name is “ Riley Baby” lol that’s my baby. He’s so protective and JEALOUS. Lol
Border Collie sind die besten Hunde der Welt 😍 ich liebe meinen Border über alles ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Collie and Malinois a perfect combo...
I might be getting a border collie tomorrow and I am so excited!! This is going to be my 2nd dog ever, since I’m only 13-15 :D
Edit: it didn’t turn out well :( didn’t get it as it wasn’t vaccinated
And mine likes nothing beter that a good combo nap al day long 😂
So everyday 2 hours is not completely true.
thank you that puts me at ease
I really want this dog
I have a border collie
Cons? CONS?????? There are no cons to owning a border collie.
The only con is they are smarter than us 😄
Why
How long do they sleep for
They were bred to be working dogs in Northumberland, not the fields of Scotland hence the name *Border* Collie - Anglo-Scottish border. Old Hemp was from Northumberland. Get it right
Just picked up my brand new border collie puppy, 800kms from home, in another state 😂
I got one 2 weeks ago but she was in the same town as me.
How much?
Just give em lots of toys and different arenas for them to play in
There is nothing bad about Borders.
well they can become very bad for those dog owners who just want a cuddle buddy and dont invest their time in the dog.
I taught my shepherd/border collie mix to play fetch in one day
Can it run 10-12 km daily to keep up with me?
Thank you for information🙏🙏
Cute dogs! 🐶🐕
I have two border collies😂😂
Sweetest babies in the world.. got them during covid tho so they haven't been in contact with like any other dog for like the first two years of their life which makes them really antsy now.. Any tips for this??
Also funny story.. didnt know about theie jumping abliilty.. and boy can they jump.we had to change the fence like four times and now it's taller than us😂😂😂
A Dog Year (2009) is the title of a movie starring Jeff Bridges that shows how hard is it to have them around
BEHROOZ KA I DON'T MIND TELLING YOU , THAT'S BALONEY!
There’s no bad border collie as far as I’m concerned.🇬🇧
My 7 hour old collie can do so many tricks
Hour? Don’t you mean year?
Lol they’re literally blind and useless when they’re newborn pups buddy😭
I've actually heard herding training is a way to get that 2 hour energy out! Or swimming! So, for those who are worried work would get in the way but adore border collies as a dream pet, you can do this as an extra bit.
And in their early years, hire a trainer to train them while you are working. This you don't HAVE to do though.
I love my border collie
2 more days and his 9 months
My border mix is practically refusing to potty train 😭
I'm trying to figure her out but it feels like I'm a newborn mom trying to learn her new baby!
I know exactly what you’re going through… I’m having the hardest time potty training my pup.
How to buy baby border collie
How much hours a day do they need exercise? Please anser
Give them all the time you can man
A hard run for 30min minimum a day. They can run themselves to death like horses if you convince them.

I have done TONS of research on this breed.
yes yes yes! a border collie would seem very great for you and your family
Walking the dog can be your PE mabye?
“Hiking alot “ how often .? I need to walk my BC at least twice a day plus 30-40 minutes minimum of mental games . The breed deserves that and if you can deliver this it’s the right breed for you. Collies and Aussie blue heelers can run 70kms a day full on working here in Australia
my dog has arthurites
I am getting a border collie
Anyone here have advice on getting a collie because I'm scared of how much they would need to exercise and what they would do if they didn't get enough
I have had 4 Border Collie's they are great. They love structured routine so they can understand what's happening next. If you give them a short play time (chasing the ball) in the morning and a walk at the end of the day they should be happy.
@@MonacoMcLaren oh thank you this was very helpful, I'm getting a collie very soon
If you haven't the time to walk them ever day I'd advise not to get one
So, I am a good boy?
My Border Collie Juliette is highly upset over your video and is demanding equal time. Got my puppy Dec 2021 she is about 5 months old.
Conclusion :I love them so much that I would be afraid to get a chihuahua :P
cons? you need to keep em occupied because they crave active time and cant survice passive life.
I have a 3 and a half months old border collie and all I have to say is ................................................................................................... please help me. lol
