    Lived with dogs all my life. Each group has run free. Now at 63 , I’ve decided to own a male BC pup. He’s on his way to me today. Maxine my 13 years spaniel mix is lived well. The lawn is her domain. Thats going to be my first challenge. In deciding to own a BC, I read lots of stuff. Thank you for your 5 point short webinar. I expect some challenges. I love the outdoors and the ultimate in 6-9 months is to have him run/walk/cycle with me through the forest nearby. My 13 year old will be needing showers of affection too. Regards and Thank you again

    I never post on here, but my wife and I just brought home our new 8-week-old Border Collie. We lost our previous boy after he reached the age of 13, but we didn't have him as a puppy. This guy we literally just brought home yesterday afternoon, and he is a joy to have, and I want to set him up for success. We've already started with toys, boundaries, and leadership, and he has picked up potty training very quickly. We're still working on kennel training, and acceptable behavior. We also have two rabbits that were very comfortable around our old boy, but this puppy has a lot of energy, so we're struggling with some growing pains. I firmly believe in the NILF system of training, as well as being very engaged with positive reinforcement. Hopefully everything goes well with him.

    I’m considering a Border Collie right now. I work about 45 minutes away from home, and I’m gone at the least 10 hours a day. However I work at a family business and my plan if I get a dog is to take them to work with me. I feel like the constant stimulation of driving and going to work, working on things at the shop, coming home and working out/running for a couple of hours would suit a border collie quite well. Sure, there won’t be any cattle to herd, but every day would be a jam packed adventure which I’m hoping would work for them (and at the shop and at home I will have plenty of mental exercises and jobs to do). Still not sure yet if it’s the right scenario for them though. I’m also considering a Golden Retriever.

    The cat and the rabbit were acting as if on alert so I went outside. It was early morning and a cold front had come through leaving cold and mud behind. I followed the cat's gaze and there under my sailboat trailer was a Border Collie pup, cold and shivering. I am guessing she was 9 to 10 weeks old. 9.5 lbs when I weighed her. Oddly enough her tail was docked and later while cutting her claws I noted she has no forward dew claws. Are some born without or were they cut off too? She is a brilliant dog and intelligence shines from her eyes. She loves to bite me though - working on that but it is slow as I am being gentle.

    Border collies have to be the smartest dogs ever. Io (named after Jupiter's fifth largest moon) was found abandoned at about four weeks old. We've had her for one week exactly now. She knows her name, come, sit, stay, and break. No puppy I've ever owned picked that up so quick and at such a young age. She's also potty trained for the most part. Naturally there's the occasional accident between potty breaks, but really it's few and far between and entirely our fault for not paying attention to her small bladder. She's still yet to go poo inside. They really are intelligent dogs, but hyper, oh boy are they hyper.

    Hi I have found a border collie puppy that I put a deposit on. The breeder has them typically go home at 6 weeks. I’m concerned that is too soon especially since she will be the first dog in the house and we have no dog friends. What is a good age to bring a border collie puppy home?

    • @alyssazoromskis9805
      @alyssazoromskis9805 Год назад

      Hi yes you are right way to young. A pup should not leave the mother before 8 weeks let alone 6. The longer the pup stays with its mother and mates it’s more likely to be a healthy and Secure emotionally as well. Usually when breeders sell that young they say the mother is aggressive and need to get rid of the pups is the moment you turn around and find a shelter dog.

    • @picashlio3361
      @picashlio3361 Год назад

      I've heard that ideally eight weeks is when it's best to pick them up since most dogs are fully capable of eating solid foods at that point (most are also fully weaned).
      Our puppy Io though is 5 weeks old. She was abandoned at my work place. She's doing great but she did whimper for a day or so after we brought her into the fold. She's just a happy little girl now and very smart.
