I feel such a great deal of comfort from watching these ads. I was an 80's baby and I think the comfort comes not from it making me feel young or free, but reminding me of when I had a family. It was nice to have parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. I remember seeing these commercials at different homes from my childhood, like at my Great Grandma's or my Granddad's house. I still have a husband, daughter, sister and her two kids but that's a far cry from what I started out with. I'm not complaining and I'm grateful for what I do have, but it's really nice to remember.
I feel a great deal of comfort watching commercials from my childhood. I wonder if it is as simple as "it makes me feel like I'm young and still have my whole life ahead of me"
What I appreciate about these vintage commercials is how they could not rely on digital graphics to enhance/carry a commercial so more attention was paid to the music and actors.
Great video Dave! Finishing it with Christopher Cross & Bill Withers at the Grammys was the icing on the cake. I turned 12 in 1980, teen years in the 80's were the best!
I love the retro commercials. For some odd reason I find them very comforting. Maybe it’s because they bring back memories of a simpler time in my life. Now if you had some that were 8 or 10 hours long, then I could fall asleep to them….lol That would be wonderful! 😊🥱😴
Absolutely awesome thank you for the entertainment. The 80,s greatest decade ever for toys movies music celebrities cars fashion TV shows and so much more, never to be replicated.
To my knowledge, my current company has never run TV ads in at least the 6 years I’ve worked there. So to hear their name and see their product in this compilation really startled me! I’ve got to show this to my coworkers.
23:20 This commercial for pain relief tablets sealed in individual packets shows the result of the Tylenol poisonings of the 1980s. Before that most bottled products didn't have a safety seal. After that, and continuing today, you can't buy a bottle, can, or box of anything that doesn't have some sort of safety seal on it.
Another amazing upload as usual. Despite being born in 1990, I enjoy the nostalgia of the 70s and 80s. Like my grandmother always say: Always appreciate the classics. And you bring them out for everyone to enjoy, and I enjoy them too. Thank you, Dave. =)
Another banger as usual Dave. I really loved that Benson spot, and 100% true story, I was named after Clayton from the show, as it was my mother's favorite show at the time in 81, and it was playing on the TV in the hospital when I was born 😊
I was born in 89 so I guess I'm a 80s baby and 90s kid but I really wish I was old enough to have experienced that time period, it seemed so cool...the movies and music from that time are certified classics in my opinion... How the hell am I nostalgic for a time period I truly couldn't understand and enjoy..

Haven’t seen that many male rears in ads since the 80s lol. What gems from Jack Klugman, Telly Savalas, Roger Miller…and Peter Scolari?!? So many commercial actors that were so familiar for years. What a great time in my life. Thanks for the memories!
I swear those Sunkist ads even today makes me want to run out and get a Sunkist, and I'm not even that big on fruit-flavored soda like grape and orange.
My mom's best friend had a son that starred in that Sunkist commercial. It was his first commercial and his mom knew exactly what time it was supposed to first air. My mom took me over to her house and her whole family was gathered around the TV just waiting to see her son on national TV for the first time. When it came on and he appeared, the whole family went crazy yelling and screaming. I think I was about 10yo but I still remember.

I do love these commercials. Many great memories of being a kid. I was thinking the other day of that obnoxious as and song..Lady in Red.... remember that? It was on about 50 times a day! 🤣😂
@@OofusTwillip Yep, for a very long time Deodorants, and antiperspirants(really bad for your body) where a general purpose item that both men, and women used, till things like Secret for ladies, and old spice for men came along with companies realizing they could make more money that way with a couple buying 2 cans/sticks at a time instead of just one.
I was born in 60 and I remember most of these 80’s commercials. No Nonsense Pantyhose… do they even sell pantyhose anymore? 😂 Riding an Amtrak train across America went from $250-$275 in one decade. What a deal! My favorite is the Christmas commercials Hallmark and especially Folgers. Good coffee too and I still drink it today! But oh how I miss the Mervyn’s store. I use to love going there and buying my L.A. Gears high top shoes. They were at least a $100 or more but well worth it! Good times! 😊
Well, I think pantyhose have gone the way of the dinosaurs too. When I grocery shop I buy a 10# bag of onions and then I store them in pantyhose to preserve them. Drop in an onion into the leg, tie a knot, then keep that up until both legs are full. Tie them at the end and hang them up in the pantry, if onions don't touch and have good air circulation they last a long time. But now I have a bag of onions but can't find any pantyhose, I've looked at Walmart, Dollar General and every drug store in my area. Either I'll have to order them or figure something else out. Never thought pantyhose would become obsolete 😂🤣😂🤣😂😭
Dave, Mask was an exclusive to HBO! You had to watch it on HBO back in the days just to see it! I'm not sure who has the rights to it today! I'm not sure if you can buy the collection on DVD! I can't find the collection on DVD?
Took my future ex-wife on a date to see Stripes in the theater. Also bought my first new vehicle, a new ‘81 F-250 4X4. Was fortunate enough to get an APR of 18.9%. That was an era where scoring a vehicle loan under 20% was rare. 😂😂😂
20+ years ago when TV Land channel was actually good, they would sometimes play these vintage and retro commercials for products that are still on the market. I specifically remember Charmin toilet paper with Mr. Whipple. "Please don't squeeze the Charmin!"
Not my favorite Christopher Cross song by far, but what a trip to see that footage. Too bad he wasn't doing Ride Like the Wind. The man is a secret guitar genius.
I'm right on the edge of Gen X having been born in July 81, and even as a kid I thought Burns was awesome for his age living up life, and telling the world to piss off with his cigars, women, fand liquor lol!

Same here! I swear, that's the ONLY kind of fish I ever ate. All LJS's in my area closed up about 6 years ago, but we do have one in a neighboring state which is about a 45 minutes drive from where I live. So when we have to travel to that area we always hit the one there. My son is 19 now and he has loved LJS's his entire life so that's one stop that's a must for us. I miss them and wish they were still popular. 😪

There's something oddly nostalgic about looking at video where the tracking, I think that's what it was, badly needs to be adjusted on the vcr. 8:35 Apparently, that woman is carrying her child halfway up her chest.
