Milwaukee's Gen 3 M18 Fuel Impact Driver has been one of the best impact driver on the market since it came out four years ago. But last month, Milwaukee released the 4th Gen Impact Driver. So does mean better?

I have the Gen4 M18 and LOVE it. It's the most powerful Stubby drill you can get plus tri-led and very lightweight. Very hard to find just walking in a store and won't be on display either. Easy to find on-line. All the guys at work are jealous!!
It’s readily available where I am as long as you want to buy the kit and not just a bare tool. But I agree with you, it’s a great drill.
Another great video thank you, I just pulled the trigger on metabo hpt 36v impact, some Lowe's locations have the KIT, yes the kit on clearance for $111. Anyway I remembered your video on the metabo hammer drill (also on clearance for $111), which I also picked up based on your video and other channel reviews. Check your brickseek! Anyway, I'd love to see a hammer drill showdown with all the major brands as well as an impact driver showdown, put them all together in a deathmatch in the same video
At my store it’s the sub compact kit for that price.
And I have something like that in the works for later in the year.
@@TinkerWithTools I'm at the Lowe's in Canton, Mich right now, Ford Rd location they have 2 36v hammer drill kits left for $111 at the back wall clearance section, impact kits are gone
Great video! My experience with the Gen 3 is that it cams out quite a bit on Speed 3 with a Phillips #2 bit. Do you have the same issue with the Gen 4 on Speed 3 or do you see less cam out?
I'll have to check. I hate phillips screws so I don't use them often but I'll try to run some tests and let you know.
@@TinkerWithTools thank you sir! Very much appreciated. I’m with you on the Phillips screws. I may ultimately make the switch to star drive screws, but I have too many Phillips screws that I need to go through first.
@@SouthFLToolstorx heads are great, havent looked back since changing from phillips
even though gen 4 is slightly better in terms of speed and 3 led lights, these led lights will be a problem. Previously I used a DeWalt dcf 887, when we pressed the tool and it slipped, the screw head would hit the LED and hurt it. I realized it was a problem...
Couldn’t the same thing be argued for a single LED, just that it’s more common with 3x the LEDs. While I get what you are saying I think the benefits of better lightning outweigh the risk.
What’s the trigger response like on the GEN four is there a difference? That was supposed to be one of the upgrades something Milwaukee is calling ultimate trigger control. it’s supposed to be more refined dialed in and also gives you more range with the variable speed trigger. Have you had a chance to play around with that. No other review has even mentioned it so your feedback would be appreciated. I actually just found your channel last night and just subscribed last night.
Thanks for the support. Keep and eye out for a short later in the week. I’ll try to find a way to compare the triggers.
The trigger control on the gen4 is way better in my opinion
I’ve got the gen 3 it’s not bad at all. Gen 4 slightly better but didn’t convince me that much.
The m12 was the bigger leap forward this time around.
Your tool test seems most accurate tbh… maybe its because the type of wood you’re using… eliminating advantages due to wood grain/knots…. I’m a noob at woodworking. Just my guess. 😆
Thanks Manny! The thought process behind the test medium for the driving test was attempting to get it more consistent. The drill test that isn't really possible. Thanks for the comment and support.
@@TinkerWithTools no problem keep it up
I have the Gen 3 and love it but is it worth going to the 4 or no look about the same to me in power
You aren’t giving up much with the Gen 3. They basically fixed the collet, gave it new lights. The performance isn’t a huge step forward.
Did you say you had Both Impacts in speed 3 or just the Gen. 4 was in speed 3 ???
Both are in speed 3.
i drill metal more often that concrete and wood. which one is better?
I don’t drill in metal often but I need to coming up soon. I’ll try to record and put it on a short.
@@TinkerWithTools awesome thank you so much!
Cool video !
Thanks!
Was the new Gen 4 hotter than the Gen 3 after testing?
Yes but by a negligible amount. I believe there was a difference of 2 to 3 degrees. Given that it’s slightly smaller and supposedly has a larger motor it makes sense. It was by no means to hot under the testing that I did though. I think it topped at 105 on the back by the vents.
@@TinkerWithTools Thanks that definitely does make sense. I’ll have to get my hands on one and run both Gens with some spaddle bits and see what happens.Glad I found your channel I’m really enjoying the content.
Informative review, did Milwaukee update the collet to a 2 ball bearing design? I have the one with the 1 ball bearing design which causes the bit to come out, thanks
Yes. They did a mid cycle refresh to address it on the Gen 3 and then that same two bearing design is on this one as well.
@@TinkerWithTools thanks
@@TinkerWithTools My GEN3 or 3.5 has the two ball bearings I’ve had no problems with bit retention.
@@steffendetrick9403 thanks for confirming.
What model number is the Milwaukee gen 3.5?
If you ever had a tri-led tool, you can't go back. trust me 👍
Your not the first person to point out the weird vibration with gen 4
It wasn’t on every fastener. Mostly on that one but yes it was strange.
Typical milwaukee, loud as hell, rough as hell in the hand, but powerful.
The sound and vibration could come from the mechanical gears. I feel that on my new Gen 4 compared to my older Makita electronic ‘’gears’’
Most powerful impact driver in the world 💪. How agree with me?
It’s a great impact but I think that flex might have something to say about most powerful.
@@TinkerWithTools yup, flex also powerful tool and for me only flex can't fight with gen4 Milwaukee
Pure torque goes to the flex with stacked lithium battery, but these are impact drivers not race cars where more power is always better, we have reached the point where you have to turn these things down to prevent camout and stripped fasteners.
@@dewalt_6728 remember Flex is bulkier on the battery and runs on 24V batteries
@@TranTek yup, I agree about that
