    I really love how you play a counterpart to ask questions and make objections, but not stupid ones, rather very legit questions that force you to make distinctions so people can really understand how science works.

    The greatest thing I've seen in the sky- It was 1976, and I was sitting on my lawn at night with my cat (Cicero) on my lap. I was looking at the stars when I noticed that 3 of them were in a prefect isosceles triangle. I was quite surprised. And then...they converged into one at the center! I've never gotten over that.

    The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in the sky was symmetrical “omega” shaped lightning (kinda like this:♎️ but no line at the bottom). It began in the top center then branched to the “legs” and had little straight bolts radiating outward all over. The entire thing had perfect mirror symmetry. It was spectacular for the eye-blink that it lasted. Then I sat in a thunderstorm with my camera for half an hour. No good pictures, of course. I didn’t see it happen again.

    Why does the net up/down motion cancel out so neatly? Like I recognise the cloud has net angular momentum, but the cancelation of forces isn't intuitive to me yet.
    I'm nit picking here, and I have seen particle simulations that make it clear visually, but this is something I would not be able to explain to someone else.

    • @ScienceAsylum
      @ScienceAsylum  8 лет назад +8

      Well, I wouldn't say it "neatly" cancels out. There are plenty of little comets and asteroids that orbit whichever way they like (because the matter that made them didn't make it into the disk before they formed).

    • @ScienceAsylum
      @ScienceAsylum  8 лет назад +5

      You can even see in my small simulation in this video there were a few stragglers.

    • @Tetracarbon
      @Tetracarbon 8 лет назад +1

      Right, and the fact that there is an Ort cloud at all shows where the matter is too thin for collisions to occur.
      *allegedly there's an Ort cloud.

Your videos worth way more then the number of subs you have could suggest. You should try ways of reaching more people. This might be an interesting way of reaching more ppl) Keep up the good work!

    A couple of questions,
    Why do planets spin?
    Where does the gravity come from that pulls the gas and dust together?
    What is a black moon?
    And do you have any tips for someone who wants to become a scientist? Thank you I love your videos!

    • @itskelvinn
      @itskelvinn 8 лет назад +4

      Megan Gilmore a black moon is just the 2nd new moon in one month. They rarely fall in a way where two of them occur in one month so they made a name for it. Its doesnt look any different or special. The name is misleading

    • @kovanovsky2233
      @kovanovsky2233 8 лет назад +4

      Any object with mass has gravitational attraction including gas, dusts, dirt, your laptop, and you.

    • @ScienceAsylum
      @ScienceAsylum  8 лет назад +9

      Being a scientist is a lot of work. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree in physics, but people with PhD's probably wouldn't call me a "scientist." There's a lot of research that goes into that. You have to really WANT it, otherwise the stress wont be worth it and you'll give up. I'm not trying to discourage you. If you want it, then go for it. I'm just trying to give you some warning. What subject are you thinking?

    • @victherocker
      @victherocker 7 лет назад +2

      1. long before the planets form they were actually dust and tiny particles that were flying around. so when they were flying around and clashing into each other at the same time, it made a planet that spinned.
      2. objects with mass always have gravity. but why they have gravity is still a mystery. scientists propose a force particle called graviton that creates gravity but it just doesn't work out well

    • @Fanaprimo
      @Fanaprimo 7 лет назад +7

      +Victor Nguyen
      Gravity is an illusion, mass makes a dent in space creating that illusion.
      If a Graviton particle was true, all mass would send Gravitons to all other mass in the universe and by that deplenting itself of energy,
      therefore it's existence.
      Earth would not be here after 5 billion of years.

    Honestly, the weirdest thing I've seen in the sky was while stargazing with a friend and we saw a light dot tracking across the sky. Now that is pretty common since it is a satellite reflecting sunlight. But this particular object then made a perfect 90 degree angle without accelerating or decelerating and happily continued on it's path perpendicular to the path it had taken earlier. And that time my friend and I hadn't eaten any funny mushrooms.

    • @omsingharjit
      @omsingharjit 7 лет назад +1

      Electronica because such Chennals also explain us Hypothetical theorys which is not proven yet like about Big bang etc that's why I said sci and fi both not for only this vid but channel .

    • @berengerchristy6256
      @berengerchristy6256 7 лет назад +3

      Cool excuse, and it seems like you're not from America, but Sci fi means science fiction and nothing else. There is no such thing as a hypothetical theory in science either. A theory (theory of evolution, theory of general relativity) explains something and is supported by massive amounts of facts and experiments, etc. The layman uses theory differently from the scientist.

    Nick the wierdest thing I ever saw in the sky was Comet Holmes in 2007. It was wierd because it was totally unexpected. It got crazy bright right next to the Casseopia constellation. I use that constellation a lot to find Andromeda with my telescope, and know everything there that is _suppose_ to be in that area or at least I think I do :p
    One night I was doing just that and BAM! There was this green blob!
    I had seen bright comets before ( halleys, hale/bopp ) and knew comets can be green too, but this was my first green bright comet.
    I was like, There is now way I'm the first to see this. I did a specific internet search to confirm my suspicion lol.
