- I completely bypass the two and a half hour vehicle lanes and enter back into the US in less then 8 minutes using my US Global Entry Sentri card . ( US expedited customs for approved pedestrians and drivers returning to the US from Mexico)
Just had my interview today and was approved on the spot after fingerprinting and a photo and 3 questions like why I wanted sentri, where I work, and where I live and that’s it took less than 3 minutes in and out. Now I can’t wait to get my card in the mail to begin using it

How long did it take to get an appointment for the interview? This is the part nobody tells you about!!! The calendar is booked solid thru the fall of 2022!

Just used my GE card at San Ysidro SENTRI for the first time yesterday. Took about 15 mins which is not bad considering it was a Sunday at 3pm in the middle of summer. It took me a while to find the line. The map apps on my phone were pretty much useless because they send you through streets that are closed. I got stuck in traffic in back of the regular line by ave Revolución for half hour but luckily a traffic officer guided me to the SENTRI entrance. I was in awe on how fast and effective this is, I highly recommend it for everyone on here who’s thinking of getting it.
PS. Steve is not kidding about the speed bumps at the end. You literally have to come to a dead stop to go over them, I bottomed out my front shocks on the first bump.
I came out of San Ysidro on Sunday about 2:00 PM. The line was all the way back to New City towers. Still unbelievably it only took about 15 minutes. The regular lanes were 5 hours long at that point. (Seriously, 5 hours) I don't give exact directions on how to get out because the route has changed 3 times in 18 months. Usually it entails getting to as close as New City as you can by any way possible and then following the Sentri lanes out.
What do you flash the GE card at? Last time I tried getting into the SENTRI lane with my GE card, the guy patroling the entrance looked confused and told me it didn't work there--only SENTRI cards. I didn't know how to prove my card also worked.
O man Steven. This video is a God send thank you. I will be leaving Colorado next year in June to be with my girlfriend in Tijuana. But I will work in San Diego. This helps me a lot, since i will be going back and fourth for work and home. I already have my passport, so I will apply for the Sentri Card . Thanks a lot man for this video

I got my sentri card and use it for the Hidalgo-Reynosa bridge. What they don't tell you is it costs about $350 dollars to use the lane on the mexican side. But it's worth it. I cross in less than 5 minutes.
It's still free for the Southern California Semtri lanes , (Mexican perspective use). Sadly, I think that politically it is about the worst it's ever been.
Unrelated, but for future renewals I am using the Global Entry System.

This SENTRI proved to be very time saving for me, I used to wait 1 - 2 hours on one of the crossings over here in Juarez, I cross with SENTRI now and I don’t even take half a minute to cross, Mexican side was about 250 bucks/5000 pesos for a year.

@@stevenseguro People don't believe until they see it. I had this happen yesterday, where I was with a group of people that went to go to Juarez to hang out or something. My friends of course don't have their SENTRI card, They had to walk across, and while I did that I used SENTRI. It took faster for me to cross by car than they did to walk across, and they were just stunned of how short it took.

I'm not a model citizen, but I can pass pretty much any background investigation. I think you meant something like "not a criminal". I think there is a big difference between a model citizen and a person without a criminal record.
Hey Steven u did a very informative video on border xing and that will definitely help and encourage others how to save time and money at this world's busiest border xing. my advise please also post a video or a link how to obtain that US Global Entry Sentri card also there's a Nexus card to use at Canadian borders, and hope some day you will do a video at up north on US/Canadian side. So if i apply and get global entry i can automatically use the sentri lanes correct? Because the website states i have to follow the sentri rules and that confused me.
Hello, Yes, Global Entry includes Sentri privileges. However , you will need to have your car inspected by the border patrol by appointment before it can be used to exit Mexico.through the Sentri lanes.
What you need to explain too is that they need to get the mexican sentry pass for you vehicule that cost $5000 pesos I got my sentri card but no one explain to me that I have to get the sticker for my truck if you don't have the sticker you have to go back in line and wait for like 4 more hours
Thanks Jose, Yeah, there are no stickers anymore. Its about about $50 to register your vehicle on the US side, as I recall, so 5000 Pesos on the Mexican side is a bargain. I'ts my intent to demonstrate the actual process of exiting in a vehicle. I am by no means an authority on the approval process or guidelines. It's constantly changing and the backround checks literally vary by each individual circumstance.
The application clearly state that you need to get your vehicle inspected and approved. I cant imagine getting through the approval process without reading the application.
I just got approved for Sentri. I am still confused about the registration of Línea Express for $5000 pesos($250 dlls). Is this required to used Sentri coming from mexico? I mainly cross from the Laredo/Nuevo Laredo boarder. Could this be only in certain boarder crossings?
Hi Michael, Congrats on getting your card. Yes, that sounds like a Laredo thing. Total as far as I know is anout $140., which is totally worth it. I don't know of fees originating on the Mexican side. The good news is its good for 5 years!!

The whole family got approved. The wife initially got approved. But two days before she received her physical Sentri card she noticed that it was Revoked on the site. We don’t know why. Now she has a Sentri card but can’t activate the card on the website. Any suggestions my friend??
IMy last renewal took 25 months total. I would try Global entry instead. it will only take a few months. I really think that the modern Sentry system should all be administered through the Global entry portals and directly through homeland security.

application process also directs lifetime ivehicle inspection appointments . It's very slow these days.

Ensenada.... Well the only choice you have is the scenic pay road (1D) North to Rosarito, exit the toll road to Benito Juarez (2nd st), It leads strait out to the conventional American border lanes. Follow second street to the "5 freeway San Diego" signs then take the local bypass towards the Tijuana Airport "Aeropuerto"
The tallest buildings in Tijuana are called New City and are clearly visible to the north east.
The Sentri lanes run parallel and North to that complex.

Thank you, Its not that difficult to qualify, (No convicted felonies, arguably no convicted misdemeanors) but I know a lady who managed to squeeze by with a 4 year old DUI.
Generally verry few actually participate. . Sometimes the normal and ready lanes have 2 hour waits with 2 Sentri lanes empty.

Hi, It's been 8 years for me.. Originally, I think it took about 10 weeks to get fully approved. After 5 years renewals are almost instant (2 weeks , online ,no lapse) I I think the program had fewer applicants then. I've heard it's taking a long time these days. Its really really worth it..... Hi, From the marked beginning of the lanes to the commencement of the 5 freeway, on that particular day it really was about 6 minutes.There is only about 2 or three minutes of wait time the is not in the video. Its rarely more then 15, and it seems that there are less and less sentry card holders as time goes on.

Hi Again, I'm 4.5 years into my card, So I need to re apply in January or so.
It took me about 3 weeks for the original interview, at which time they opted to research my answers to some of their questions. They scheduleed another interview about a month later and then told me I would receive my Global Entry card. it arrived in the mail 3 weeks after that. It was a happy day....! So normaly about 5 weeks then another three tp get the physical card. Be sure to schedule your vehicle inspection as soon as you know you have been approved. Your "Mexico" Vehicle has to be cleared for outbound sentry vehicle lane usage.

I have both. Sentri includes Global l Entry but not vice versa . Sentri includes the privilege of driving an American registered motor vehicle into an out of Mexico through expedited customs.

Thanks for watching. Yes my understanding is they are one and the same now. Global entry is included in Sentri, but for vehicle use, the cars have to get inspected and approved.

Hello, Upon reentry to the US , all you need is the Sentri card, nothing else will be expected from US authorities.
The Mexicans can ask for passports if you are walking in (not driving)
They also can charge $$ for daily VISAa's.
None of this occurs if you drive into Mexico.
When driving, even if you get stopped at the gate for inspection they will accept the Sentri or Global Entri card as a passport.
By the way, there is secured cheap parking on the Mexican side now if you don't want to drive arund the hillsides of Tijuana in a new model S.

For some people its surprisingly easy.
Renewing is much easier then the original process. (Every 5 years)
Actually they don't ask any questions until the interview, at which time they already have the results of your background investigation, so if you reach the interview stage it looks pretty good.
If you have ever been arrested and then had charges dropped, they may ask about that.
I know of one person who received their card even though they had a 6 year old misdemeanor DUI.
They want you to show stability and a good reason for traveling back and forth across the border a lot. If you tell them its for pleasure they may ask you to describe the kinds of things you like to do and your relation to the people you know in Mexico. Yours is a very good reason.

Hi, No I'm still in the Sentri system, My 3rd time renewal approval came at 11 months after applying. I have my final in person interview for renewal in November in Otay. (Appointments 8 months out) That will make the renewal process almost two years for me. The validation doesn't lapse even though the cards expire for as long as you continue to get pushed through the system. Next renewal; application will be through Global Entry. That is taking about 4 to 6 months for new applications.
The Sentri based expedited customs system is in absolute chaos right now.
Never been thru that border crossing. As you cleared with CBP and then slowly drove over the many speed bumps on the U.S. side, did you notice any possible X-Ray scanners? Or am I just being paranoid? Lol
Hi, The border guards have the option of directing you through a secondary inspection area that includes driving slowly past xray scanners and a physical inspection. It doesn't happen often but it is always a possibility.

Hi, well, if you drive into Mexico, on your way back in to the US if you bring back certain items you have to disclose them at the gates. Fish, any fruits or vegetables, and other things.

Oh yeah, If you make the trip often, your life is divided into before and after Sentri. Its also good for domestic airline travel, (Global Entry)

Hello, You can start at CBP.gov, Its about $125 for 5 years, and $50 for each car if you intend to use the car lanes.
On on my 5th year, so prices might have changed.
100 for 5 years if you want Global Entry and has the same benefits as SENTRI. $42 if you want to add a car after the fact. Make sure you have a car and register it beforehand as it will save you the fee.
You said the card is Global Entry Sentri Card but as I apply it asks which one to apply for. Global Entry is a card and Sentri is another card. Which card is better?
Technically they are both the same. Sentri is for the Mexican port of entries and includes driving privilege. It includes Global Entry.

Global Entry is more recognized in the US and world customs communities. You would still have to get a one time vehicle inspection to drive into Mexico. The program benefits are identical. For driving or walking through Southern US borders, Many Mexican officials treat a Sentry card like a passport. ( Its techically not ) I never carry both in Mexico and have never had a problem.

for Global entry or sentry card holders. You make an appontmnt for a vehicle inspection at the Otay Mesa port of entry Sentry processing station.. It has slowed down a lot since Covid has come into the picture.

Hi Marco, The one card is all you need even if for some reason you use any of the conventional lanes to drive back in, (or walk) . From the Mexican perspective however, I once had a Mexican Policeman additionally ask me for a passport in Ensenada. He told me I needed a passport to be that far South, but I have never had an issue, and I'm there quite a bit. A passport card is good for the ready lanes. No backround check needed, and that saves time over the conventional lanes also. It doesnt compare to a SENTRI card though.

Hello, Just got back from Vegas, LOL... The programs are run by different departments, but they have basically the same benefit. I highly advise you go the Global Entry route, as Sentri is Taking over 18 months for both new and renewed applications right now. Well, There is a scanner that puts your card info in the border inspectors que when you are second vehicle from the front. The instrument reads the card then puts your information in front of the inspector. If you don't present it to the scanner you have a higher chance of getting delayed because it then has to be physically scanned or typed in by the guard. Global Entry and or Sentri privilege are both accessed through either of both systems. Some border guards are confused about that, but if you are driving back in from Mexico and your vehicle has not been SENTRI approved your Global Entry card won't work. Individual vehicles have their own stand alone one time approval and inspection process

Hello, The privileges are both exactly the same, Sentri is administered by border patrol and also does initial car inspections for use in the outbound Mexican Sentri lanes.

Hi, many do, It coud be dirt cheap and lots of fun if you could possibly see yourself making sincere freinds and spending time with Mexican people who would be your neighbors. I think Mexicans have more sincere social relationships in general. BUT....... No Bling, .... No bling....... a policeman earns $700 a month in Tijuana, It's not at all a good idea to drive around in a Mercedes E320 pulling a jet ski.......

During the recession(2009) East San Diego County got very cheap for about 8 months, because nobody could get a bank loan. I bought an entire ranch 18 miles from downtown for very little money. Property Taxes in California are based on purchase price (Proposition 13) so I'm basically set for life. East San Diego is an amazing place to live. Mexico doesn't have a middle class. You cant have or show off nice things. You will be noticed in a bad way. That said, you can ride a Kawasaki on the beach, people are friendly and sincere, and it basically cost 1/4 of what it would to live in San Diego or LA. It is possible to live there comfortably, really cheaply, and in relative safety. Food is amazing, its a beautiful country once you pass through the border zones.
You can walk back and forth, but the parking lots on the American side are always full and very expensive.
I'll shoot some footage over the next few days and go into detail.

Hi, Yes each vehicle gets its own one time inspection ( not necessary for renewal) at an inspection point after you yourself are first approved.
As of 11/2015 vehicle inspections are no longer required. Just make sure to add the vehicle(s) when registering on the GE/CBP website to have SENTRI access, free of cost. If you don’t do it at this time, you will have to pay a $42 fee on top of the $100 you already paid. Make sure you take the vehicle(s) registration card or proof of insurance when you go to the interview. The agent will want to see that the car(s) are under your name and the VIN’s match what you put on the application.
Thanks Francisco! I just did it online, and since i had been a GE for a couple of years and hadn't added a car from the beginning i did have to pay 42 usd. My vehicle was approved/added to my GE account in 2 weeks. No need for an interview.
Good to know, they change this stuff pretty constantly, I still have the original obsolete sticker on one of my my windshields. It actually helps a lot at the numerous checkpoints within San Diego and Orange county.
They stopped issuing them because people were getting targeted for Sentri status.
Steven Seguro going somewhat off tangent from the original comment, but do you recommend the San Ysidro or the Otay border crossing for the SENTRI lanes? I just received my GE card in the mail yesterday and I’m excited to use it for the first time next weekend. Last time I went to TJ was on Memorial Day weekend. It took me a total of 6 hours and 4 minutes to cross at the regular lanes in Otay! Plus another 2 hrs to get to LA. It was horrible. Rookie mistake.

Steven Seguro I can feel that for sure. In fact, writing this from Tijuana. I travelled the Mexico for 6 months and it feels like I spent 1/3 - 1/4 of what I would have spent living in Cali for the same timeframe.
It is certainly cheaper, Socially it might be better. Many of my American friends are to busy to travel or have fun. When they are not working twelve hours a day to make a 4000 a month mortgage they are drinking at their favorite dive. Though they don't earn as much,eEducated Mexican people generally have better lives. Ese Elinas?

The Sentri card and Global Entri are identical, Sentri is more geared towards walking or driving because optional initial vehicle inspection (once)

Yes, Sentri is a combination of both, I use it at airports for check in and expidited customs often.
Sentri also allows for a car to be associated with my account once I have it registered and inspected so I can use the Sentri lanes driving back from Mexico.
Global entry and Sentri are extremely similar., but the Southern border patrol originates all the Sentri applications. The northern border patrol administarates the Canadian NEXUS equivalents.

Hi, Yes, I did it about 8 years ago. You don't have to renew the vehicle pass/ inspection. It cost $40 dollars per car at the time. They no longer issue physical stickers for the windshield. Your vehicle approval shows up electronically at the gate. Take care.

@@Ricardo-qv9jn I reapplied 2 years ago and it was much easier. (every 5 years) I just freshened up the application and the new card came in about two weeks. No need to have the car re inspected either. In the original process I was interviewed twice.and the process took 5 months total.

Real time Otay border crossing wait time 619-871-8999. It's usually worse, Commercial truck traffic.

@@RideRedFred Well, its 1 hour and 45 minutes now in outbound Otay,.Sentri is 10 minutes in San Ysidro, Also you have to drive through the worst traffic in Tijuana to get to Otay outbound lanes, so add about 30 minutes to get there from the Mexican side.
@@stevenseguro i cross in otay readylane around 7pm-8pm ive never made 1 hour on a weekday max is 40 min and thats on really rare occasions.Sentry lane in otay at those hours are empty always.San ysidro will always have more traffic because that specific port of entry is the biggest in the world.
@@RideRedFred My 2nd home is closer to San Ysidro, Also Sentri costs almost nothing, ($145 for 5 years) , I cross without any thought as to what time it is. No need to wait until 3AM (which still might entail a three hour vehicle line). Also Sentri facilitates Global entry, (Expedited customs at airports for international flights).

No it isn't. Enhanced drivers license allows for reentry into the United States from Mexico through conventional means. It doesn't always or necessarily meat criteria from the Mexican perspective. A passport card would allow for ready lanes, (better)
Sentri is expedited crossing available to those who apply and qualify for the program.

Hi, from every family type circustance that I am aware of the adults applied concurently and upon approval the minors pretty much automatically received their cards.

Woooow, I've heard of up to 5 months. The good news is renewals take about 3 weeks.( 5 years from now) Also this is CRAZY convenient. Your life.... Before and now AFTER Sentry card.... Congratulations!!!!!!!

Are Global Entry and Global Entry Sentri different?
Hi, My understanding is Sentri includes Global entry and all its privileges (expedited airport customs), but not vice versa. Actual vehicles must also be approved. Sentri cards are customised for the pedestrian and vehicle sensors on the Mexican border.
The Canadian version is called Nexus and doesn't work for Mexico.
My GE card has SENTRI and ReadyLane on it.

You can use a Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS Card coming into the US from either Canada or Mexico. However to enter Canada you must have a Nexus card. Global Entry cards are not accepted in Canada. Likewise, all three cards are valid entry into United States from Mexico. If you intend to enter in a vehicle from Mexico through the SENTRI lane, that vehicle must be registered on your Trusted Traveler account beforehand. Furthermore, it is important to note that if you are going to use a dedicated lane, everyone in your vehicle must have a valid Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI card in their possession.
You can have both NEXUS and Global Entry if you want the ultimate in cross border transit by car or foot (in Mexico).
+Michael Horgan you cannot simultaneously hold a Nexus and Global Entry card. The second one you obtain will cancel out the benefits of the first one.
Nexus comes with full Global Entry privileges in addition to Precheck and preclearance at Canadian airports.

I'm not sure Jose, They are pretty diligint about backgrounds, so they will probably catch it, but you don't have any responsibility pertaining to his application.
