I like how "mental stack" is a common issue addressed in SF6 discussions, but Mike Ross was advocating for it during SFV. A true visionary.

Burning desire to comment on this as someone returning to the franchise after skipping V and stumbling across this on tumblr.
    What did it do?
It did a plethora of things
    - It reduced the movement options of the opponent. Similar to some of Uriens area control moves in SF3
    - It was more visual noise for the opponent to process. An extra thing to factor into their next move of attack. Sure Ibuki has moves to counter this, but the opponent was too distracted to think clearly.
    - It distracted the opponent to such a degree they were too focused on commenting "what did it do?" than remaining focused on the fight.
This is the perfect depcition of how deep fighting games can be and what makes them so great. The Laura player went beyond just what was going on the screen, got into the mind of the opponent making them confused and doubt their next move breaking their flow state.
Its why parries and counters are so important. They dont just turn the tables, but they make the other player question using that move again reducing their options.

I haven't played this version of streetfighter... so just going off what little I knew about SSFIVAE, what was it actually supposed to do? I guess it might have kept ibuki from jumping in, but they could have done EX Neckbreaker through the fire ball, or even anti air when Laura jumped in... an air throw might have even worked and killed Laura before you would land on the fire ball.

Three years late but it basically added pressure using a mid fullscreen attack, incase he tried to counter the combo he did faster jumping.
It was an added assurance to a win, phsyically by locking him down to one place, mentally because it was a very strange mix up, and psychologically because I bet he still doesn't know what it did and it's haunting him.

I am just finding this clip for the first time because I wasn't into SFV in 2016 but I've been playing a couple years now and this is my opinion: It did nothing mechanically to affect the outcome of the round. Was not even close enough to activate proximity guard. It may have affected the mental stack of the Ibuki player. Game is going to be supplanted by 6 soon so I thought it might be appropriate to try my hand at solving this dilemma here.
