    There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
    New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

    Perhaps the ultimate tragedy of Peterson is that he's a man who is smart enough to see the problems of the world a d understand that they are indeed problems, but is someone so wrapped up in his ideology that he is completely unwilling to understand the actual reasons why things happen and instead must concoct some absolutely ridiculous explanation which means that he has completely and utterly forfeited his ability to actually have a positive impact on the world. He is a man who sees all the ills of the world and yet, by his own decision, cannot actually do anything about it and can only watch. I wouldn't wish that life on anyone

      I always got the impression that he is a genuinely depressed man so desperate to find meaning to it all that he'll convince himself of anything . . . And then just spiraled down an incredibly harmful path.

    When I was a small gay girl I thought all heterosexuality in women was kayfabe for the sake of getting a partner who could compensate for the fact the world wasn’t going to pay me as much as men. I also thought having kids was mandatory. Finding out lesbians existed convinced me that women could love lmao.
    Have we considered the fact that JP might be suffering from a BAD case of Comp-Het?

    Let me get this straight, in 2021 The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released a song and video in tribute to George Floyd. And then the band broke up at the end of 2022 because the lead singer is an anti-vaxxer that produced a song for RFK Jr. Wow, what a weird turn that I didn't see coming

      Nice that it worked for you, but DO NOT make the mistake Peterson (and all self-help ideologues) does and think that advice like this applies to every person. Some people are MORE happy when there space is a messy. They feel stress if their space is too tidy. Everyone is different.

    JP is insane and misogynistic, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I'm a woman and disappointed in your take on the "transactional relationships" stuff re: women and parenthood. The idea that most people have kids because they happen to get pregnant without any prior thought/planning, is really male privileged. This is absolutely not the case for most women.
    For women, there IS a huge cost to parenthood compared to men. One child takes years of your life between pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. It risks life threatening injury and permanent disability, and at the very least permanently changes your body. Even in countries with the best safety nets (ie not the US) you sacrifice advancing in your career - in other countries, you may sacrifice your career and financial independence entirely. There is no escaping this is a biological difference between men and women. So yes, if you're a woman who wants kids, finding a partner who will support you during that time is important. Biologically, men gives a few mLs of semen and women risk death, injury and permanent disability. It might be casual for you but it's not for us. Expecting that a man be financially able to help out while going through this with one, or probably multiple children, is not selfish or transactional - it's responsible.

    • @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos
      @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos Год назад +9

      Yeah, I think it's more accurate to say that Jelly Peanutson's take that women are running those numbers during "mate selection" is reductive. The truth lies somewhere in between the two takes.
      Although, heck, with _Dobbs,_ maybe we will start seeing that dynamic more. Turns out SCOTUS hates the incels, I guess.

    • @jeremysanders9336
      @jeremysanders9336 Год назад

      It’s inherently irresponsible to have children at all. So it’s selfish and transactional on multiple levels

    • @hexlart8481
      @hexlart8481 9 месяцев назад +8

      Yeah of course there is a large cost associated with it and there is a kernel of truth to what JP says here, but like everything JP says that kernel of truth leads to a bs conclusion that "women are hypergamous and are driven to seek status". That just isn't how things work. It's certainly good to find a partner who can support you if you want a kid, but that is not the primary concern of most women and isn't usually something you think too hard about when dating. Some women sure, but not most. Even among women who want a kid (myself included), other factors take precedence like for instance just finding a partner I like to be around. I'd rather live in poverty with a partner who I earnestly love, than be wealthy with a partner who I primarily sought out for their money.
      We can always work to improve our situation, and not have a kid until we feel stable enough to support them. Trying to fix a loveless marriage is much tougher. When dating money may influence a decision somewhat, but its not the massive deal that Peterson and people like him make it out to be.
      That being said I do agree that robert misses the mark here when he talks about why most people get pregnant. Its clearly an unscripted and anecdotal remark and misses the mark quite a bit. I think a lot of people do think long and hard about if they want a kid and the logistics of having one. At the same time tho there is an economic factor to it. A poor woman is going to have less access to reproductive care and contraceptives while a relatively well off woman will have the privilege of being able to make a careful and informed decision. Its a nuanced topic that robert didn't do justice here. While I dont think many people are doing the math while dating and making relationship choices based on that, I certainly do think that given the opportunity most women do make a careful and calculated choice about whether they want a kid or not. Or any responsible parent should go into it with that level of care and consideration.

    I am not a fan of Jordan Peterson but it is really weird listening to you quote mine and then argue with a straw man. What is super weird is that I like you and Cody and the silent one, but the stuff you got fired up about, such as the "transactional way to describe relationships," when you know that that was clearly not the point that he was making. Can't do a play by play in the comment section but that one example is more than enough. I expect that crap from the right. Come on guys you are better than that. You're better than them. Be better. Please.
    Again I think you guys are great and I'll keep listening. Other than that have a nice day.
    PS. Jordan gave up whatever credibility he had when he started working for the daily wire.

      @ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos Год назад +17

      Having heard a fair bit of Jelly B. Peanutson's ideas, he does have a very transactional perspective toward relationships. If memory serves, rules for life 5, 8, and 9 are all quite misanthropic and conceptualize other people as instruments to the reader's ends.

    • @PhysHow42
      @PhysHow42 Год назад +3

      Agreed, a lot of this was deliberate misinterpretation, presumably for content? Like perhaps they came up with the idea for these episodes and then realised there wasn't enough content for three of them.
      It is a shame, because there is a lot to say about JP's descent into lunacy, but this ain't it. The stuff about transactional relationships is what specifically hit me more than anything too. It was just way too obvious.

    • @ChewyThomson
      @ChewyThomson 10 месяцев назад +7

      I mean, pretty sure Cody already did a two hour deep dive on the Jeep for Some More News and this is meant to be more light-hearted but what do I know.
      Also, all JPs stuff is in support of capitalism and radical individualism which would essentially mean he has to view all relationships as transactional so I don't find that to be a particularly egregiously off base take.

    I've listened to and enjoyed a few episodes of this podcast. But this one feels different. Feels like y'all first formed an opinion on a guy, then went out and cherry picked info to confirm that. Sounds more like politicians demonizing the guys on the other side of the aisle than an entertaining, informative, well-reasoned podcast.

      Nothing about this episode struck me as unfair or unreasonable. One could make the argument that they do not know Jordan Peterson's points as well as Jordan Peterson himself, but this argument is quickly refuted when one points out how much Peterson refuses to believe in anything and, if questioned, will insist they're misconstruing him.
