Watching this on RUclips, I started crying when he mentioned the example of being at a music concert and someone comes up to you and says, "you know this is going to end, right?"
I've been struggling with suicidal thoughts for the past year, and depression for much, much longer than that. My sense of self worth has eroded over many years, losing weight is really difficult, and made all the more so because I stress-eat.
As a really little kid, I remember always loving life, and these days I struggle to find anything worth really enjoying. I got in to the Food Industry right out of highschool because I hated learning, in highschool, and just wanted a way to apply myself rather than talk about theoreticals and math equations that 90% of us students would never use.
I hope Jordan Peterson's words can touch others like it does me, and at least start a spark of life in us as a society again.

    • @newfreenayshaun6651
      @newfreenayshaun6651 Year ago +16

Get the hell out of the food business, it's dying anyway. It'll be the best part of bettering yourself and absolutely refuse to go back. I would never accept that sort of self torture again, this is your universe. Do everything in your power to start a business or something in the direction that you really want your life to go. After all, we could all have been dead by now and this man is trying to encourage us to be the difference we want to see in the world. Go. Do.

I was here for this event in Dublin. Sat near the front, on your left hand side. I have followed you for many years now, Dr Peterson. I simply can not put into words the ways in which you have changed my life for the better. It is through your words and your attempts to convey the truth that has allowed me to pursue it in my own right. I know in your humility you would deflect my admiration and point it towards the great thinkers that came before you. However, it is you, here and now, that has affected all of us here and the culture at large. We are blessed to have you. Stayed blessed sir.

I took the responsibility to take care of a child's school fees (not my child but someone struggling's) and quickly realized how embarrassingly obvious it was that I was unable to manage my own self let alone one child. I disappeared for a while and I'm picking that cross up again this year with more humility and patience. I felt devastated that I wanted to carry up to 10 to 20 people but thanks to Jordan, I'm surrendering to the humility of carrying myself plus just the education cost of one till I can make more meaning out of my Depression riddled current state. I'm grateful that you Dr JBP have been a father to me. I choose to be more responsible and truly try to hope for the best today and tomorrow and next and hopefully someday, hope and believe for the best ALWAYS ❤

Looking back at it now, it's been quite a journey. Finally moving forward with life and working towards a goal instead indulging in pointless pleasures in life. Thanks JP.

I see posts on twitter of parents that can't understand why their children won't stop playing video games and won't leave the house. When they ask the kids they seem happy and don't understand there's a problem. The parents don't understand why their kids don't want to work or have a girlfriend or a car or a life. They can't get a job and move out and be an adult they're perpetually trapped in childhood. They want to sit in a room and look at a computer screen. It's the weight of the world and the lack of real dreams. Lack of real goals in life. The room is safe. The computer can be controlled and choices can be made. It ends up being enough for them and they don't recognize the problem. Millions of people are trapped in this hell.

Kids do what they do because parents don't parent. That's the #1 reason our countries are being so easily destroyed by the ruling elite. For generations now kids by in large have not been parented. Have not been taught rules. Have not been taught boundaries. Have not been taught self reliance and responsibility. Have not been taught what freedom and liberty is. Have not been taught is takes WORK that involves discomfort to keep that liberty. Instead parents gift them into digital dimentia with phones and tablets because that's easier than being a parent. Likely because the parent is too themselves addicted to the screens and don't want to take time with the kids.
A nest for evil and tyranny has been made very comfortable.

Dearest Dr. Peterson, I can’t believe I get to come see you NEXT WEEK. You will know me because I will be wearing a beautiful blue dress. A dress I bought two years ago when I hoped to come and see you the last time you came to Boston but I was not able to come. And you got so sick that spring and you didn’t know if you could make it, either. But I saved that dress for the occasion of coming to see you. And I also have a traveling companion for whom I want to be especially beautiful, as it were.

I was at your show in St. Louis, MO, 2/14/24. The guitarist who opened the show (I wish I could remember his name) was amazing. I liked that he performed a classical tune with nylons, then did a medley of Nolan’s films on electric. Tammy’s story about her mother’s death was very relatable. She reminded me of my Aunt Steph.

We had dinner down town before your lecture and it was clear that everyone in the restaurant was on their way to see you: Men in suits, women in dresses. As a black man that can't identify with his own community I appreciate the video. What depresses me the most is the way any type of people blame their depression on race. Grow up black man!

It's the same in some parts of the Latino community, it's a horrible virus, but the more of us wake up, the better they will get as well. Greetings

to defend those a bit... depression is a generational thing and well the black community has gone through some shit, you know better than i do but i agree with you. with all the information at hand you now have more power to fight that depression. use it!
as a latino myself the person above me is correct as well.

It’s a fallacy to think of a race or a sexual identity or other surface characteristic as a “community.”

Hello dr. Jordan Peterson i hope you are good emotionally and also physically! Im a 15 year old teen and the fact that i found you is absolutely amazing. Because in my humble of all humblest opinion you have excellent level of emotional and general intelligence. And i love how i can understand the words and the sentences u are saying by heart.
I have struggled with absolutely severe existential crisis and eventually depression since age 11 because i questioned everything. I still do however i am not depressed i am actually happy because i understand what are the right questions i have to ask myself and that meaning is something i must discover. And i have realized that learning new things and just learning from and watching ppl like u and just learning everything i can until the day i die is what gives me life i love learning and i love teaching what i learn it is a hope for me that in the future perhaps one day i can meet u and people like u and perhaps help humans as much as i can and put good influence to them because this gives me life ❤
