Red plants are mainly acheived with low nitrates. Rotala colorata or h'ra etc (even red root floaters) will stay orange/pink/green in water naturally high in nitrates.
I have experimented adding CO2 to my HOB filter before for a 55 gallon tank but found that I got less pearling, which made me think it was less efficiency at keeping CO2 in the water. I agree that the CO2 being chopped up by the impeller should lead to a lot of dissolution, but also in a HOB, you have a lot of surface agitation leading to gas exchange. I suspect this is why I didn’t have great results, combined with the size of my tank.
Wow I never thought about adding co2 through the filter like that, I definitely want to try that method now

Not just that but you also need medium levels of Phosphate and some Iron.
