This is exactly opposite of what the trex fascia installation guide says to do. It says the deck board should overhang and fascia should be tucked underneath. There is no mention of spacers either
Fascia can be finished one of two ways. 1. Fascia attached to the rim joist and the decking overhangs the fascia. This works well when picture framing the deck as the decking cover both the rim joist and fascia not allowing water and debris between the two which promotes rot. 2. Some people prefer not to have the decking overhang the fascia for aesthetic reasons. They prefer the decking cut flush with the rim joist and the top of the fascia level with the decking. However this allows water to settle on top of the rim joist between the decking and fascia. By attaching the furring strips between the rim joist and fascia, it allows water and debris to pass and air circulation for drying out. If you prefer your fascia this way attach the furring strips to prevent rot.
Nope... you use a different board with for the picture frame end piece. One with solid ends. Go look at decks done the way in this video. They're all warped looking too. @@cyndi795
One of the ways I’ve made similar spacers is to save scraps of the decking from the waste in, cut it to the desired length, then rip it to the desired width, then in half. A slightly wider gap will also make it less prone to clogging with debris and defeating the airflow purpose.
A little lost concerning the drill bit. There is mention that you can adjust the depth in order to use color matching screws. Questions on AMZN for the Starborn Pro Plug set about depth options say there are none. Only option is depth for plugs. Which two step drill bit are you using that allows for multiple depth settings?
