Totally dislike how most people treat Roy. It's despicable! He's on the right wavelength, unlike most/many of the others. I'm so happy for him and lovely lady ❤
Well, it didn't take long for Gail to turn into the mother-in-law from hell, showing the same sort of hysterical intolerance of her own mother-in-law from hell, Ivy.
I used to think Ivy treated Gail abominably over life after "our Brian". Now, as you quite rightly say, Gail is channeling Ivy - she's awful, getting nastier all the time. Just like Ivy, in fact. Meanwhile, Leanne and Nick are very sweet together IMHO.
Best part of this: Nick and Leanne together this month.. both together now (May 2023) , and furthermore, step sister Toya and Spider almost together, and they're together in May 2023 :D
February 1998 summary: very poor month. On the good side is the blossoming friendship between Roy and Hayley. On the bad side: the cold war between Gail and Leanne drags on, the emotional game-playing between Des and Samantha drags on - with no solution in sight to either. Spider attempts to stitch-up Curly on an eco issue, but has the tables turned on him, and Fiona gives birth to baby Morgan, which means the near-constant presence of her ex-Liver Bird mother (if anyone else remembers her as a Liver Bird!) On the very good side: February is pretty much a Mallett-free zone.
I said something similar myself in the comments about it being a poor month too - so much so I’ve not carried on! Hope it improves but I doubt it! 🤷♀️
Fiona is so emotion-less. Her face is so BLANK. Barely gets upset. No emotions. Reminds me of a heart monitor going flat line, Even her crying appears fake. Bad acting,
I’ve got to say this month really is a hard watch.. so many dull, unimaginative storylines with uninteresting characters.. I’m shocked at how bad Corrie has got in a few short years. Leanne & Nick getting married?! Who cares!! Des and Sam not getting married.. so what!! Brian Park really did ruin this programme. I’ve only carried on watching to see the conclusion of the Deirdre/Jon Lindsay storyline but I’m finding it a real struggle.
Wanting to know the outcome of the Deidre/Jon story is the only reason I'm bothering to continue watching. It is a struggle, the decline in quality is so pronounced, rubbish storylines and scripting, and badly new written characters with zero appeal and gimmicks instead of personalities. You went to a lot of effort compiling these episodes and by this stage, the programme doesn't deserve it.
Yes, absolutely! The marriage of the Plank and the Motormouth (Nick and Leanne) and the manipulative games of Des and Samantha held no interest for me. Sam seemed a young version of Denise: she wanted to be 'wanted' but once she was with someone she wanted out. Her backstory could have made her a more sympathetic character but she was too conniving for that. At the end of the day, Des and Sam were both game-players but on this occasion Des met someone who could outplay him.
It's interesting how your opinion changes over time. By that I mean, when this aired I was a teenager and liked the Nick and Leeanne story because I suppose it was aimed at people of my age but now being older I find it boring. I remember thinking Leeanne was one of the most beautiful girls on TV back then.
It's so true! Your opinion definitely changes as you get older. I'm now in my 60s...... I used to think Gail was a nice person, no longer do. I felt sorry for Diedre, but now think she definitely deserved it! Didn't realise how annoying and nosey Audrey was until now. Don't get me started on Ken 😂
The same here! The Nick and Leanne storyline wasn't too bad when I was a teenager and characters like Zoe I could tolerate. Nowadays, I find the characters terrible.
He can't keep a secret cos everything can be heard from Crimea Street. Put him, Kevin, Les and Judeh in a room together, and the plaster would come off the walls.
Wow. Des has no other conversation besides marrying Sam, even though she's obviously having second thoughts. He's obsessed and utterly boring and, like so many others, cannot read the room.
Martin's okay IMHO but Gail has morphed into Poison Ivy 2. Gail was never good enough for "our Brian" and now Leanne isn't good enough for "our Nick". Her hysteria/hypocrisy is ridiculous.
I think Roy and Hayley make a lovely Couple just like Leanne and nick but I wish Gail would accept her son as got a life now with Leanne and I hope 🤞 it works out for the teenagers best of luck 🤞
Imsy Wimsy Spider climbed up the spout, Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain, So Imsy Wimsy Spider climbed up the spout again.
Everyone is unhappy and some are really mean, especially Mike and Audrey. Poor Alma. I miss the comedy- Rita and Mavis, Mavis and Derek, Des and Derek’s tricks.
Steve McDonald into property development ,😂. He was making t-shirts for a living, then did all of a few weeks working with his Dad, now he is suddenly a property developer.
The way Gail is behavouring is ludicrous, such a snob about the Battersbys. They might have been loud and brash but they were good people, they took in her son when she kicked him out.
4:08:31 Have I missed something, but I thought Des was the manager of Shaun Skinner's betting shop on Rosamund Street? From the reference here, and other recent ones, it appears that he might now be some sort of independent on-course bookmaker, which is a very different kettle of fish. How, when and why did this happen?
The sex symbol replacement for the part of Nick Tilsley is good because it reflects the taking after (and wanting to take after) his natural father Brian, who was muscular. But the sweet face doesn't match Gail's face, because he had a very prominent nose, and that made him a good choice for the part. And no offence, but the latest Nick looks nothing like them and he also aged way too fast.
This month was pretty good: the young Tilsley couple marry; Hayley and Roy discover each other, thanks to Alma's considerate nature (though mixed with impatience); and a hint of the birth of Roys Rolls sans Gail, due to her incorrigible mouth. The problem of the Zoe pest lives on, but we're getting there.
Roy and Hayley are so lovely to watch. So wholesome.
Strange, when anyone from the street are in hospital,Martin Platt is always there in every ward.
@Ingrid Ogilvie yes it’s totally ridiculous how he’s the Florence Nightingale of Weatherfield, he’ll probably be attempting brain surgery next month 😆

3:11:36 Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh playing in the back....the magic moment between Roy and Hayley.
Ohh the irony of sarahlou asking Leanne if she's going to have a baby 🙆👶
I always have a giggle with the background radio songs. Lady in red when Hayley was in the Cafe and was given that spot remover.
I believe some of the background music is co-ordinated into the script. Many apt songs suit many scenes.
Ivy was mental Gail’s just plain vicious.

Poor Katy/Shannon, honestly I would've taken that baby back to the Malletts if I was Ashley and let social services intervene.
Christ the des-Samantha storyline was pure boredom
I agree, it's sheer tedium.
I thought that if Samantha didn’t want to marry des just say so
I fast forward their scenes.
I'm coming to the end of it now - I'm wondering whether something will come out about samantha
