Been looking for gorgeous GEC knives available in Switzerland and finally located a few in stock with stag handle. With a gun stock handle I was compelled pulling the trigger, a purchase largely based on your review! Can’t wait 😊
Thank you for the great reviews! Thanks to you, I am now hooked on GEC knives. I bought 3 #44s after watching this video. (2 micarta and 1 autumn jiggled bone). Keep making great videos, thank you.
Beautiful knife, but I'm not crazy about the where the typically super sharp GEC backstops fall with a knife like this where the blades unfold from the same side, right under your forefinger or ripping the side of it.
When GEC started doing these bigger runs many of us thought it was the end of GEC quality and possibly the end of the traditional resurgence. Especially with the massive run of the new #78 pattern. There was one GEC distributor, that decided not to carry the 78, due to this. Boy were we wrong. I do wish they had a better warranty/repair shop. Im not the only one that has had new knives returned, without GEC fixing the defect. That includes when you call ahead and make sure they'll make the repair.
New to the world of traditional slip joints. I have a Case Tony Bose signature in ebony. Just ordered the Northfield #44 in cocobolo. Too beautiful to pass up. Guarantee it won't be my last GEC.
Great video! I went for the satin finish on the cocobolo, and I'm so glad that I did. I am ALL about greater production quantities from GEC. I found myself very frustrated several times this year with the limited runs and short order windows on many of the more high-demand GEC knives from CK.net this year. I hope that this solution by GEC will provide greater access to their EXCELLENT knives and pattern varieties. This is good news, Rob! Cheers :)
Not sure how I feel about increased knife production. On one hand, it will be nice to have an easier time getting certain knife patterns I like. On the other, I hope the increased numbers doesn't mean decreased quality and the low production numbers is one of the things that makes these things so desirable and keeps the resale value high.
Wow..........just WOW!!! Man, I gotta break my promise of stopping the growth of my GEC collection & buy at least a couple of these! Hey Rob, do ya know if they still use the double-header machine, now that they use a new CNC machine? Or does the CNC machine eliminate the need for that process??? I have to agree with ya Brother, these are indeed right up there with the Grinling whittler. Good to know GEC is going stronger & better than ever too!!! If only they were about 500 miles closer to me. Visiting them is on my short bucket list. Hopefully someday.
Howabouthetruth That’s a question I meant to ask Bill at the Rendezvous, but forgot to. If they’re still using the double header machine to apply the satin finish, it sure seems to be doing a better, more consistent job than it ever used to. They’re spectacular.
Operating that double header machine definitely looks like it requires some experience & skill, to get the hang of knowing exactly how much pressure to apply to those wheels, and the timing of doing it. I can see how a worker who is new to the process could mess up in a few ways.
I just got my first gec knife, this northfield #44 buffalo jack in cocbolo wood. After all I've seen and read about the quality of gec knives, I am extremely disappointed. The pen blade is way off center, almost touching the left liner. Both blades are totally dull as well. This is only my second traditional slipjoint, the first being a Case Tony Bose signature model. Its blades also came dull. Wondering if these traditionals typically come dull out of the box. I can sharpen them up, so that's not so much of a big deal to me. But to get a knife with such a stellar reputation so badly off center angers me. I'm returning it for a replacement and having them check the centering before shipping it out. I'm waiting for my first crk, the umnumzaan, to ship, on back order. I hope the hype is real for it unlike the vaunted gec, please.

I “discovered “ Great Eastern through your videos. A big thank you, my friend!

Now thats something different... im not a big gold/brass fan but those are beauties. They nailed it!
The GEC#44 was the best knife for 2018. Most collectors want single blade pockets knife. The dealers are stuck with these knives.
Rob you’re killing me, I thought I was content with my ebony you convinced me to buy, but that bone and brass is telling me otherwise
I love GEC
I just wanted to Echo Barry Coles’ comments
THANK YOU ROB

Really enjoy your video and your appreciation of fine art!!!

Beautiful pieces! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for showing those to us. I have the #44 in Gabon Ebony and in Cocobolo, and plan to get one in Stag if they don't sell out too fast!

how will a cocobolo hold up in a pocket?
Please review North Country EDC in cpm-154
Great video.
Thanks again Rob! i just bought two (gabon and cocobolo). I’m out $230 now-THANKS.
Joseph Troyer Happy to help 😉😜
very nice. tyfs
Absolutely gorgeous 👍👍
How do you keep them patina free?
That shield on the Northfield looks a bit too phallic imo. Beautiful pieces otherwise.
