  • A Psalm of David.
    "The LORD is my shepherd,
    I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
    He leads me beside quiet waters.
    He restores my soul;
    He guides me in the paths of righteousness
    For His name’s sake.
    Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I fear no evil, for You are with me;
    Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
    You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
    You have anointed my head with oil;
    My cup overflows.
    Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days
    of my life,
    And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
    -- Psalm 23

    Just received this in Antique Calico Jigged Bone (SFO) and it's a beaut Rob! A Tidioute to go with my Northfield.
    Recited your above-quoted Psalm (and some others) with a prayer for Rick (Warthogg)'s continued recovery - let's hope he's back to his lovely self soon!

    Great review of a great knife. And a great find with that particular one. Those may be the best covers I've seen from this run.

    I really love the look of the elderberry jigged bone, but I knew that this would be the crowning glory for the #92 so I snapped one up with a little luck. Thank you for your excellent reviews, I can always count on them.

    Glad to see ya got yourself another one of these awesome patterns. She's a beauty. To be honest, I was a bit taken aback when ya sold your first one in the Autumn Gold ( I think that's the color name, I have one myself ) jigged bone from the pattern production premiere. I don't think many folks realized, but up to the point of that earlier run, this uber-cool retro pattern had not been produced for at least 80 yrs..........if not longer!!!

    Got the Jigged Elderberry and the Goldenrod Camel Bone. Love them both. Best GEC knife this year and that includes the #29 and the #77 Barlow. which I have as well.

    I'm new to GEC. Never held one, don't own one. I've got my eye on either a stag 92 jack, the green micarta, or red elderberry. Which should I get for an EDC that'll be carefully used, but used in general?

      Jairus Greco I’d go with the Tidioute elderberry, Jairus. It’s got stunning good looks when closed, but the blade finishes are all business. The satin finish will hold up better to use than the polished Northfield blades.

      @@TheApostleP hey thanks, sir. This is such an investment for me at this time and it's real hard to take the dive.

    So Brother, how do you feel about getting people to break the 10th Commandment? That knife's so good I'd kill to get one - oops, there goes another Commandment...

    Disappointed. I just took delivery of one of these and I'm having to return it. The covers are poorly matched (looks like they came from different dyeing batches), and there's poor fit between one of the covers and the adjacent liner. I had begun to think GEC's quality control could be trusted, but sadly it would seem not.
    Here in the UK we basically don't have knife shops any more. This means we seldom if ever get the opportunity to examine a knife before we buy it. It thus matters more than ever that the proper QC is exercised at both factory and supplier levels. Unfortunately I'm seeing too many examples of sellers using the reality of remote selling as an opportunity to pass off substandard products to the vulnerable purchaser. Deutoronomy 25:13-16 applies!
    On a related note, two days ago I received a Rough Rider Copperhead Jack in Bone Stag, exactly one tenth the price of the GEC (£15 vs £150), and the fit/finish is immaculate! How do you get your head round that?

    • @TheApostleP
      @TheApostleP  4 года назад +1

      Some would call that variation in natural materials, David, and in the case of camel bone, it's pretty normal. There were definitely not "different dyeing batches" with these knives, but each piece of bone takes the dye differently, camel bone much more so than cow bone. Aesthetics are very subjective on a material like this, so you're always best to buy from a retailer that has pictures of each individual knife. The good news is that it's worth more today than you paid for it, ugly covers or not.

    • @davids9549
      @davids9549 4 года назад

      @@TheApostleP Well that's good to know, but they could still do a better job with the matching - they certainly did with yours! Anyway, there is yet hope as my supplier here says he still has a couple more and will seek to exchange mine for a better one.
      Value? Fairly irrelevant in the UK as there is very little going on by way of a secondhand market - our ridiculous knife laws have pretty much squeezed the life out of that kind of thing. The value to me is purely in what it gives me in terms of ownership - perhaps that's why I'm so fussy!

      @@TheApostleP Happy to report - my supplier sent me a replacement which has just been delivered and oh boy this is the real deal!! Total perfection, same as yours, and I'm just loving it. So pleased I took a stand over the sub-standard example. This is one knife I will carry with enormous pride, one of only 5 exported to the UK.
      Even more good news - Located a #93 Cocobolo which is now on way...
