- The new Yamaha MOD+ has really narrowed the gap between the flagship Montage range and the more affordable MODX+ which is available in 6, 7 and 8 models and brings the on board sample flash up by a 750GB to a 1.75GB. You also now get 128 FM-X voices in addition to the 128 AWM-2 stereo voices.
Dom gives us a few good sonic examples of what you can do with the MOD+

Great demo. It also demonstrates the problem with most synth touch screens. It often takes 2-3 attempts to select what you want.
It reminds me of the Nintendo DS screens, and how they were a couple years behind. Hopefully we get the next line to have UP TO DATE touch screens.
yeah, but that was a year ago. i was also disappointed by modx+ touchscreen, seeing it being laggy, but a video just a few months later also featuring a yamaha representative showed a much more responsive touchscreen. i also watched fantom 0, which is like competitor to modx+ (sort of, at least in price range), and that screen was on spot, every time in every video. did yamaha fix touchscreen responsiveness via firmware update? dunno. will research more.
Dom is such a knowledgeable , but humble guy. I hope to meet him one day. Oh, and i just got a MODX7+ to replace my MODX6.

I was actually in the room when you were filming this. Although the video sounds great, it was a truely epic sound coming out the PA. I ended up playing a demo one for about 40 minutes. The sound engine is remarkable, and left quite an impression on me. Had a long chat with one of the Yamaha guys about it too. Never really been that sold on Yamaha for many years, but this has changed my mind. I think I'm going to end up buying one of these. Superb.

@@ChrisP3000x Aren't you the happy camper. MODX launched 2018. Updated 2022, and sounding bloody fantastic. Well done Yamaha.

I own both the original MODX and the Montage. If you can afford the Montage I would have a play on one of those first before buying the MODX+ as the Montage has more buttons and sliders which make it far easier to control things. I also find the keybed a lot better in the Montage.
He very quickly answered the first question everyone had, which was, “does it do Stranger Things?”

watched dom sigalas since first montage was released, and i always loved him. he knows his stuff and is always super positive and ready to share knowledge. check out his channel, you wont regret it. i only wish there were longer videos of him showcasing, apart from those on his channel. i could be wrong, but afaik i think it was his showcase of the original montage years back when i heard probably the best performance built in a synth ever, pearly gates. im sick of brass and wurlitzer demos, lol.

lol, nick asked if one can programme your own drum patterns. the guy said no, only as arps, which is a totally wrong answer. apparently the guy didn´t know anything about the pattern sequencer update.

Does anyone have issues when layering certain sounds cut off ?? Or the keys don’t register . Even on normal piano sounds

I have a MODX 8.. You can stop the superknob from flashing, reduce the brightness of the knob or turn the light off completely
Can you update the original MODX to the PLUS?
No. It's not just firmware. Otherwise why would they bother? There is more memory, etc, etc. If the standard one (I've got MODX7) was upgradable, the only difference would be the wheels and the + symbol

This is the desktop version. The cheap plastic keys that you see can't be used for actual playing.
@@CrazyDriverSwed I played the MODX+7 - the keybed was v good actually (much better than the Fantom 07 imo)

@@AJL200 I've tried it and the keyboard action does not even come close to my Yamaha SY85 that was releases 30 years ago.
The Montage/MODX keyboards are great, but Yamaha is now just using them as a cash cow. The recent improvements are more bells and whistles than meaningful upgrades. I hope Yamaha does not become another Microsoft, in creating a good product and then sitting on it for a decade with no real improvements.

im also waiting for something really unique & special from Yamaha. Korg and Arturia stuff are interesting me. Not so much Yamaha or Roland.
Yamaha have deserted the Montage users after paying soooo much money they would rather build new semi-clones rather than improve on the so callled Montage flagship

@@annother3350 Well, I'm not a broke casual.....cheerleading over-priced garbage cash grabs. I can afford anything, but like most, I wouldn't buy a modx for a multitude of obvious reasons.
@@ChrisP3000x Yamaha are at the top of their game if you ask me. OK, the keys let the rest of the synth down but yamahas engines are top notch and you're getting 256 poly and plenty of control. I would hardly call it a joke
