NOISE comes when you boost the DBX and the UA Volt and refuse to consider the features of the DBX, like The Gate. I've used my DBX 286s for about 6 years now and love it. It will boost the SM7b a lot more than that UA Volt can ...AND you can gate any noise (if any) you hear with the same DBX Channel Strip. I'm a professional and I recommend getting and using the DBX 286s. Note: Volume on the Volt Input will be set at zero (0) after routing and boosting through the DBX 286s. Clean too. Yup!

even using the DBX for some reason it sounds weird when it at one point sounded great. Then suddenly even with the dbx microphone got giga quiet like without a dbx for some reason.
Got cloudlifter now so will figure out how it sounds and if it helps.
I use focusrite solo 3rd gen for clarification (and yes im using the 2nd volume button when using DBX, which i didnt figure out a year ago lol but last week when i tried it again).

I just use the DBX 286s for recording directly to my FX3 camera XLR output. I shoot in S-Cinetone and call it a day. It's not the best, but good enough for social media content. and the DBX 286s is also better for live stream and zoom calls. Unless you got the universal audio apollo or any other with DSP. However, with the UA, you can't use it to record directly to your camera.

Yeah, the DBX 286s is versatile and a great bang for the buck.

Who is buying a dbx, and does not want to use the functions it is build for?
Using the dbx possibilities and go with a trs cable into the Volt seems for me to be the right way.
If you want to use a daw, just buy a preamp strong enough for the SM7B.
I myself have no treated room, so I use a Sennheiser dynamic mic, and I don’t have these problems. I use the 835 which does not cost 100 USD and I wish everyone fun with their SM7B Cloudlifter setup.
