Lol. The drop down to the core reminded me of something I did in my normal survival save. I dug a tunnel down to the core of the planet but straight down, for the VTOL. I use it to fairy Astronium to the surface for materials and such via trade platform. Eventually I intend to make an elevator with auto arms but that will be insanely expensive on not only resources but also power. Well over 100 arms, with each doing 1 unit of power, meaning it is 1 RTG = 4 Arms, meaning I need 25 RTGs to fully power it. And thats not mentioning all my other infrastructure, and 100 is an estimate
ive had astroneer since the first month of early access, YEARS ago, and yet i never knew about the stars = equator... i wish i had, wouldve saved so much time
Next up: beat the game with no rocket. Just a chair and a winch is all you need. Would be cool to see this tried in the newer updates though, with all the changes
broooo i didnt know about the platform step method, i always have a worklight in game, one of the first things i make since it helps with caving and night nav
If you can get a trading platform and a shredder you're set. I'm glad to see that's what you did. I love this game but get kind of bored because it doesn't force you to really explore that much. This play style does. I have to try it.
I did focus on getting the trading platform, and I was absolutely set when I finally built it! I only wish there was a different strategy to complete the game aside from cheating with dynamite, or by using a drill on a rover or something... I have to deform terrain to get into the ground without glitches.
@@CptSpaceToaster well if you think of another challenge to make the game harder please make a video. I'm always looking for new ways to play this game. Maybe trying to complete the entire game while underground. Just a thought. Wouldn't be as hard as the no terrain tool.
I’m doing my own challenge where you ditch the oxygenate and tethers instead using the portable o2 devices which work amazing and I’m glad vehicles give oxygen thankfully
u can find the song at the start on a vid called zelda and chill its pretty chill for the background btw great vid man im playing astroneer rn and struggling
The vehicle drill works, but is accessible pretty early, and doesn't really offer much of a challenge once you get access to your first tungsten. I didn't use it for my run, but it's a phenominal option if you want to use it instead of the terrain tool.
Yes. It will take some doing, but explosives are a thing and planets have free resources that require no mining (just exploration) so it is entirely possible.
The game has changed a bit in the least 2 years, so I was wondering if this is still possible. The initial hurdle is that now you don't get given a platform until you do a mission which requires using the digging tool. Thus you will need to obtain at least 1 resin to make a platform, and can only get that using dynamite. Resin and compound are never scavenged resources. I got lucky and found dynamite on a busted rover within reach of my starting shelter, AND a patch where compound and resin overlapped, so with one dynamite I got a few pieces of each, and was able to create that initial platform to carry to oxygenator. Without the dynamite I'd be stuck. It does give the player a new appreciation for hugging the terrain, and thorough exploration.
@@CptSpaceToaster I've played hundreds of hours and cannot recall ever scavenging resin or compound. Maybe they're there and I usually ignore them as they're so easily collected with the terrain tool or through soil processing. Would you allow yourself vehicle drills? If our scenario is that the terrain tool is malfunctioning, but you can still drill with a vehicle, then it's an initial hump that can be got over - if you can find dynamite near your base. With no vehicle drilling then it's that much harder to get over the hump.
@@ziploc2000 You can see a compound at 3:35. I don't think those loot tables have changed much. I don't know where I land on vehicle drills. There would still be a requirement to get to chem-lab tech... but I wanted the video to feel as authentic as I could, and the vehicle drill felt like a "technicality" when I was in control of writing my own rules. I didn't want anyone to think I left myself a back-door cheat in my own rules. I wanted the challenge to be difficult and I felt a lot more comfortable and authentic avoiding vehicle drills and using dynamite the whole way.
At 9:00 mins he used terrain tool to grab platform but the challenge is to not dig anything with terrain tool so guess it doesn't count. I just wanted to point that out.
I left a comment about that specific action in the video's description! I pull out the terrain tool A LOT because the game lets you pick up base items and resources if you simply hold out your terrain tool. Speedrunners call this "Terrain tool extension" but lots of players just know how to do this after playing for a while ;)
... assuming you can get a packager or platform that works without suffocating... I'd expect a couple of resets... but hopefully less than 5 hours worth of em.

Ah, that sweet sweet cheese of taking out your terrain tool to pick up far away items into your mouse
May I please pick up that item far away game? NO? *pulls out terrain tool* How about now?
To think the train rail boxes make getting to planet cores a breeze
Whenever he got the trade platform in my mind I was like ‘why doesn’t he use soil centrifuge’
Then I realized how dumb I am
I mean... we could look at it for fun if we got bored!
I'm just starting but I must say that is a majestic beard
Thanks! I grew it myself!
You have a lot of patience
Thanks for watching!
Next up: beat the game with no rocket. Just a chair and a winch is all you need.
Would be cool to see this tried in the newer updates though, with all the changes
Pro tip there's a compass thqt shows your base and the direction that it is
Yeah, the old navigation system from 10 months ago wasn't that intuitive. The new compass is a lot better.
you are so underrated I love this video!
Thank you!
broooo i didnt know about the platform step method, i always have a worklight in game, one of the first things i make since it helps with caving and night nav
It's always helpful to know what's a solid object, and what's pretending... I'm glad to help and share info!
Nice job, excellent run :)
Thank you!
I’m doing my own challenge where you ditch the oxygenate and tethers instead using the portable o2 devices which work amazing and I’m glad vehicles give oxygen thankfully
That was some sweet cheesing
This dude beating it without the most important tool meanwhile me struggling with it
nice idea and nicely done congrats :) !
Kudos on a job well done!!
Thank you!
you could have also set up a chain of chairs to get in as a makeshift ladder to get out XD
With enough chairs... ANYTHING is possible.
I loved this video. Awesome job!
I dont know why but multiple times I kept saying mine that and then remembered what I was watching.
It took a bit to get used to!
u can find the song at the start on a vid called zelda and chill its pretty chill for the background btw great vid man im playing astroneer rn and struggling
Timestamps are in the description
Well played!
Well met!
Him: Uses dinamite to get to planet core
Me: chuckles in wechicle drill
The vehicle drill works, but is accessible pretty early, and doesn't really offer much of a challenge once you get access to your first tungsten. I didn't use it for my run, but it's a phenominal option if you want to use it instead of the terrain tool.
Yes. It will take some doing, but explosives are a thing and planets have free resources that require no mining (just exploration) so it is entirely possible.
I guess the oxygenator doesn't need power. I always thought it did.
you had me at "without digging". :O
This man did better then I did when he didn’t use his digging tool then I did on creative…
Resin and compound were scavenged in this run... but it was very rare.
I am unsure if it could still be scavenged in the latest version.
Bro, the dedication
Incredibly insane!
Never beat the game.
This man did it without digging
At 9:00 mins he used terrain tool to grab platform but the challenge is to not dig anything with terrain tool so guess it doesn't count. I just wanted to point that out.
I left a comment about that specific action in the video's description! I pull out the terrain tool A LOT because the game lets you pick up base items and resources if you simply hold out your terrain tool. Speedrunners call this "Terrain tool extension" but lots of players just know how to do this after playing for a while ;)
Now that they added missions this should be 5 hours easier
... assuming you can get a packager or platform that works without suffocating... I'd expect a couple of resets... but hopefully less than 5 hours worth of em.
I appreciate the Rhyme 2:41
