Its power output actually varies from planet to planet. Ones on Calidor double the value. And with railroads introduced it's even affordable to place and connect 2 of these on the opposite points of a planet for 24/7 power flow.
As someone who spend around 30 minutes creating a farm of 32 batteries paired with 5 extra large wind turbines and much more. I can say 32 units of power a second output is fine to me as the power stays in the batteries for a while and holds in total over 1000 units. I think the input is around 85 units a second from the 5 big turbines alone so imo it’s pretty op, since the solar panels only work at daytime no matter where you are. Thus needed the 2 solar panels or one at the littlest light deficit on the planet, which can be way more hassle than just batteries. I may be just tapping and grieving that I have a smaller output, or that I just found a simpler way to do it.

Better renewable power source.. 2 Tappers - 2 plants - 1 Smelter - 4 Medium Generators - 2 Autoarms - 2 Large B platforms. Gather the organic from the plants. Autoarm into smelter and make carbon. Burn Carbon in Medium Generator. Expand as needed. Takes 7 power to run and outputs 36 power in total. Meaning it has a net gain of 29U power. If you add a storage in the middle it produces more carbon that it uses so you could (with the right plants and a second smelter.) run multiple banks of generators off 2 plants. All automated and once started will always run enough to smelt carbon.. as 1 gen = +9 U power and the smelter runs on -5U. Also a bonus is that 4 medium gens on a Large Platform B... Is enough to start every Gateway.36 power / sec and 1 carbon each = enough to start 2 gateways on all planets
Solar panels in astroneer : I require increasingly more and complex ingredients the larger I get Solar panels in space engineers : I'm made of silicone, nickel and iron, I am dirt cheap and easy to spam
The Astroneer situation is even worse since you can spam small ones to overcome their being worse and it’s ultimately easier than making the larger ones.
I like spamming 24 small wind turbines on 12 medium storage silos connected to 4 large storage silos B for around 1728u/s. Sure takes some time to set up, but it's easy to transport and ceramic is literally dirt and cheap
I always build a tower with those elevation blocks. They place soil for you in a cubic shape and if you press it over and over again you create tower. Just build this tower right above the south pole and place on every of the 4 sides the xl solar panels. Then you have all the time as much energy as you want. Just extend the tower and place more solars if you're short on power. And if you reach the build limit but want more solars then just make the tower wider. Instead of 1x1 make it 3x3 or 6x6. Then you can place much more solars per side per height level. Easy
4:55 Looks like the Nintendo Switch version of Astroneer because of the floating gateway chamber well above ground level. PC version of Astroneer has gateway chambers on ground, and on some planets, even partly covered by terrain.
Idk how I got a world with them in the air, but it's so convenient for true flat building. I wish I could replicate it, but for now I just copy that save and use it for others when I want to build on true flat.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer I'm just on my first play through, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I put my third base up on the roof of a gateway, and used the Alignment mod to put a flat, level floor up there. They don't match up! One side is flush, the other side is up or down a few inches. Either the Alignment mod is not very accurate (which would explain some of my other problems), or else the Gateway Alien Architect Legendary Builders need to invent the bubble level.
@@DistracticusPrime You are basically correct that the alignment mod isn't totally accurate, but if you'd like to know more, I have written a ridiculously long but hopefully easy to understand explanation below. The way the alignment mod works doesn't allow you to cleanly make a large area level. Even though the alignment mod is always lined up with the planet's curvature, when you try to flatten out a large area with it, it ends up doing so at slightly varying elevations, making the terrain somewhat inconsistent and lumpy. Also, even if the alignment mod was perfectly accurate with regards to making large areas aligned with the planet's curvature, the area you create would still not be flush with the gateway because the gateway is flat, meaning the curvature alignment of the alignment mod would eventually curve down, whereas the gateway would just go straight. This wouldn't be noticeable on huge planets, but it is in Astroneer because the planets are small enough to see curvature even across short distances.
@@worldclassjerk-epicgamer Good stuff, thank you! I suspected the gateways aren't level, or even aligned to themselves, because I tried to make a nice floor up there in several ways. Each method ended up with height errors. Even if I turned off the alignment mod and used the regular flat surface mode, starting from the gateway rooftop itself, I still ended up with a step at the other side. At one corner, I could actually see the blue gateway piece not even lined up with the adjoining piece. Later on, I learned about true flat, and how to use the leveling block near gateways to make a good reference point. It is a game, after all, and I shouldn't expect them to perfect every little seam when there are more interesting things to get done.
