It is a feature that Apple computers have, it's called Universal Control. If you have a Windows Laptop your only solution is to use something like Duet

You should monitor the electricity consumption when using this setup. Target display is very power hungry.

Unfortunately I don't think so, since the 5k iMacs can't be used as external monitors

Probably because of compatibility issues with the 5K, but the most likely reason is the usual Apple nonsense
