Cyber Security is not all about "hacking", there are different roles like IAM,ITM,GRC, Cloud Security etc. One thing about this profile is it's evergreen, it can never go and demand is very essential. But what she said was true, there is a reason why they are paid well. No running away just learning

I'm working in data analytics for a decade now. I don't echo with the comparison you've made Cyber security vs Data Analytics.
The only thing I agree with is the money you need to spend on training - with the internet you can learn all the Data Analytics tools for free; but your comparison makes this profile a cake walk unlike Cyber Security.
I've seen many freshers asking questions about these 2 profiles, and I'd suggest choosing a career that you like more. You can't spend the rest of your life doing work that you didn't like much in the first place.
With the more openings in Analytics there is a huge crowd which is following it to fulfill the demand, and it's impacting the salaries also.
Cyber Security might be more complicated in comparison to data analytics, but with fewer jobs in CS, if you're selected that means you've good at what you do and you will be getting paid for the work you love more.

theres nothing easy about being an engineer in tech, all engineers have their ups and down. and data might be more work but dont forget data has higher ceiling than security, you can start out as a data analyst/ data engineer/ data scientist/ then data architect then you can go to machine learning/ A.I. lead egineer and those guys can make 400k to 600k a year.

An Application Security Engineer would be a mid career level job. Considering how security is handled (people tend to overcomplicate security and act contradictory), it can be an annoying position depending on what company you are working for.

The need for cyber security experts in an organisation is exponentially more than that of an analyst. Reason: constant race against intruders with novel intrusion techniques. Look at it from a management perspective, of the two which is more critical, in terms of pre-emption / mitigation and contingency, not to mention the ramifications of a ransom attack.
Another pertinent point, is the need for a background in statistics to be good data analyst. Graduation with major in statistics is best suited for the profile.
