Hi. Even though I have installed several RJ45 cable ends and wall jacks, I am wondering on the wall jacks like you use in your videos, if punching down the wires like you did, if it matters if you are using t568A or B. I have a straight across wall jack that has a flip lid that has a confusing diagram on it for type a and b. Thanks

Question. The wire from the jack behind the wall, where does that connect to? It should connect to a switch/router or modem, correct? What I’m trying to do is connect my device in a different room using Ethernet instead of wifi. That’s why I want to install an Ethernet jack. What’s the best way to run the Ethernet cable thru the wall to my modem or gigabit switch?

    Two questions.
    1. For the second port on the wall plate can I splice over from the first one (top)? Or do I have to run a whole new cable for the bottom.
    2. Would 6A be the same connectors as 6?
    Thanks

@@Spot_the_dog No, don't splice it. You need a new cable for each port. Cat6 is really all you need. It's easy to install. Cat6a connectors are different than cat6.

0:46 Those rubber boots get really hard over time and make it extremely difficult to remove your connector. So hard that the easily frustrated person might damage something in the connector removal. I ended up taking a razor blade to the bump protectors and cutting them all off.

The boot can be pulled back if it's really getting in the way, then reinstalled once you have successfully disconnected the cable. There are better systems for moulded cables, but the boot is your best option for making your own cables.

Is there a reason your router is in the basement? Also remember if you join my channel membership or join my patreon you get 1 tech support question per month plus other awesome benefits.
