- This is one of the best episodes from Series 1 in my view.A London copper comes to Hartley to help work out why his snout was killed way up in Hartley.Del Henney (again) guest stars and he really helps make this one good. He's basically a good man but his ruthlessness gets some people's back up like Joe Beck.Pity his character here doesn't appear again as he works well.Del was always worth watching in stuff from this era.
1980. What a time to be alive.
True. If they shot the opening scenes in on a Saturday, 4-year-old me would have been within walking distance of the film crew.
@@matthewlawrenson3628 Great! I was 8 years old at the time - but I wish I was 18.
Miss the 80's too.
It depended on the country where living as a citizen. Here, in East Europe behind the Wall, it was less joll.y
@@matthewlawrenson3628and I was in the womb, having arrived in 81 😂 I was born a couple of decades too late.
An oldie from the past ... I love these random programmes coming up on my news feed. And yes, I'm watching it lol 😊
Beautiful photography, the cars, the clothes…
Gosh, how I loved those fantastic years... it's a privilege to having been living then...
So many cool Brit shows I’ve never heard of. 👍🏼🥰
Thx for posting this. Please post more from this good series.
I loved this programme!
I used to watch this before bed and school in the morning ❤
Maybe as repeats but they aired first on Saturday evenings.Unless you meant Sunday School at Church, which I don't think you did.
Lucky you! ❤
It was on the drama channel in 2018 i saw it then too.@@SteveHarris-nv9iy
Me two
Came up on my feed so had to watch. Did not notice the ham acting until now, used to love that program. And yes simpler times, no mobiles, crappy cars, the whole lot. Loved it!
I don't feel the acting was bad at all in this.Agree with the rest you said
Cole arriving at Preston Railway Station. Makes sense, as it's the major terminus in Lancashire from London. Gets off on Platform 3, even today where the northbound trains leave for Glasgow (and Lancaster, Oxenholme and Penrith as the announcer here says). Had he wanted to go to East Lancs from here, he'd've crossed the bridge to Platform 2 for the service to Leeds, getting off at Burnley, Church & Oswaldtwistle or Accrington or some other godforsaken place.
Thankfully (?), he has Roland to pick him up. This was filmed so long ago, that not only have the buildings seen outside the station been demolished since, the council have just released plans to demolish their replacements. Still, it's not all bad. It would have been quite easy for Roland to get on the road to East Lancs from here back in 1980. Now, thanks to pedestrianisation and road closures, he'd have to go the long way round the other way out of the station down Fishergate Hill. Knowing the hapless Roland, he'd've got lost and ended up heading towards Southport down the A59. If Cole hadn't throttled him first.
The Cole character almost seems like part of a backdoor pilot for another show, which would be unusual after three episodes. "The Tactiturn Detective"? "The Teetotal Detective"? "The Detective Who Brings His Own Vegan Meals In Tupperware"?
Lots of good location filming here. Saw one of Paul Ciappessoni's "Softly Softly" episodes from 1966 last week that was done in a similar way so the BBC picked the right man for the job.
Love what you wrote in your comment.
Thanks very much for uploading this, a most enjoyable episode
Loved this please bring it back.😊😊😊
We are better with the memories of what it was. They would probably ruin it making it now!.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iy The police stations in places like Hartley have pretty much all been closed in the last 15 years or so...
@@SteveHarris-nv9iyNo it would be a P,C nightmare .
It's the unprecedented plummet in the crime rates 😂 we have the same problem in the west country.. Victorian police stations closed in towns that are 4 or 5 times the size now!
Cheers for uploading this 👌
Please Please upload all of this series love it
Some episodes are blocked on You Tube.I will upload what I can though certainly.
Steve--Are you able to upload S1E1 & 2, so I can see how all this began?
Thank you and Shalom.

A vegetarian that doesn't drink coffee, no wonder he's so miserable 😂
Lets go back to the 80s.
Many other series then too. Bergerac shoestring the Chinese detective and more all great too.
@@BruceDanton-xw6egthank you for suggestions. I hope those 2 are on YT.
Joe's story about Warrington reminded me of my visit, Warrington nick's a smashing nick...
Quite a good show.I use to watch it in the early 1980's but had forgotten about it although I think I'm mixing some of it up with the Gentle Touch!
Both were on around the same time then
The gentlr touch was on itv from 1980 to 1984 and made by lwt
It's sequel series cats eyes was also on itv but made by tvs though
From 1985 to 1987. Julie bravo of course was on bbc1 from.1980 to 1985 but reshown since too.
I'm here because years ago Vince from "Queer as Folk" commented on his obsession with Dr Who, and Juliet Bravo! I figured it's time to find out what he was talking about.😉
Exciting!🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, from Australia. Love British shows. First time watching this series. Is this based in Scotland?
No a fictional town called Hartley. Most of the location filming was done round Yorkshire and surrounding areas. So North England is best description for location.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iyit was Bacup in Lancashire as far as I know too.
No Lancashire
I know it was Yorkshire and surrounding areas. As I am Irish don't know all the surrounding areas by name.
According to Google it was filmed in both Lancashire & Yorkshire. 😊
Great series
One of THE best theme tunes !
SPELLING ERRORS FIXED
I was surprised about how good the video quality was.
Having lived through the 60s, 70s, and 80s, I can tell you that the 60s were better from a point of view of social cohesion. Everyone felt that they belonged to something that we all felt connected to. By the 80s, unemployment was bad and the face of urban England was starting to look very different. I left England in 1988, when it became obvious that the identity of my former beloved country was changing at an alarming rate. This was massively accelerated by Tony Blair, and the rest - as they say - is history.
What did the face of urban England change to?
My decade was the 70s loved it
Very interesting. I love watching these old British shows. They have great acting and interesting plots. In addition, there is social background of northern England. I don't believe the Londoner was a vegetarian, by the way. Loved the look on the policewoman's face when he said 'I'm a vegetarian'.
Just trying to get out of dinner, being as awkward as possible? My brother used to do that, in the American Midwest in the 1980 s, people just said well, all right then we’ll mow the lawn for ya and put it on a bread roll!
Del Henney great actor
Thank you
What's at 38.47? Some kind of bird habitat?
He got lichen on his shoes by walking through trees?? 😂 What? Like crouching tiger hidden dragon walking through trees? 😂 More likely scrabbling across dry stone walls! A line written by a townie!
100 pound, including VAT. Even in death, Inland Revenue is reaching into your pockets.
Is the sergeant the drunk driver from a couple of episodes back?
Yes that's why I said in episode description Del Henney guest stars here again. This was 4 years previous to that episode airing though.
Good eye!
They need a visiting American in the scene...like A Sheriff from Utah armed with a .44 Magnum or a 454 Cal or something subtle like that. His policeccar is some 1970 Mopar with a 440 Magnum or a HEMI.....
No. Thank you, but no.
Can you imagine? 😂😱🙈
4:55 🤣
This is like a reunion of former The Sweeney actors
Stephanie Turner yes who else in this?.Del Henney was in a episode was he?.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iy It took some time for the Face to click, but he is the villain in one of the first Sweeney episodes were Reagan is drinking while a robbery is done, and that guy has just got out of prison, and is signing in the pub
En español o subtitulado sino no se puede ver
Are you asking does this have Spanish subtitles?.You will be lucky,at best it has just English subtitles.
Cut the chitchat and justdo your damn job
