Interest in older shows like soap operas.Let's see what can and cannot go up here.
Cold Warrior-E4.
There are visiting diplomats who are basically freedom fighters in London.Percival is keeping an eye on them but before their leader can really do anything he's handed a death sentence. He's carrying something that will kill him in weeks.Stephen Grief guest stars as the man,and as usual puts in a intense performance.Michael Sheard also appears in a small role.Again written by Murray Smith, who wrote episodes 1 and 2.No room for Danny or Lucy Flemings's Jo here but a decent episode certainly, hope you agree.

The sale of the corner shop to Dave Smith falls through in this episode.Reginald Marsh who plays Dave was Terry's Boss in Terry and June later on.That's what I know him from before seeing him in these.Ken Barlow meets up with Jackie Marsh again also and Ena Sharples in concerned over Minnie's betting. That comes up again in later episodes as well I seem to remember.Another decent one, hope you en...

Some bones are found in a field by workers.Tom Stone really hopes they are 75 plus years old as it won't be an active case. The equivalent of cold case now I guess. Some familiar faces guest starring here,it's hard to know seeing it first time who the killer may be.As it was a relatively recent murder. This edition comes together much better than the previous one.And most of you seemed to like that.

This covers more of the same ski expedition as previous one I did.Even Peter Duncan at one point looks bored talking about it!.The piece in the garden is better and the highlight is 6 of the then new Grange Hill cast are in studio for a quick chat.Series 5 had just finished, nice to see Gripper Stebson isn't a bully in real life.He seems the most nervous live in front of the cameras in fact.Very...

Lionel Petty who currently runs the Corner Shop is made an offer for it by Dave Smith.Who runs some betting shops nearby.Ken Barlow meets up with Journalist Jackie Marsh again.Jack Walker is always Annie free for once in this edition.I like when that happens in 60's ones.Gives Jack more of a chance to shine and brings out his fatherly like approach

As it's called Halloween you know it's not a typical cops and robbers type episode.A sheltered Girl has accepted lifts from a Man when suddenly he tells her she will die on Halloween next.Guest starring Tony Anholt as the mysterious local Man and Debbie Farrington was in lots of tv shows in the late 70's through 80's.I like this quirky episode, one of the better weird ones they attempted.Much be...

Series 9 is the first Z Cars run to exist still fully I believe sadly. This ran from Autumn 1974 to Spring 1975 originally.Don't expect too much from this opener though. Some were made around a BBC strike I think that year. This is mainly about a building site where stuff is getting nicked. As well as the regular cast as good as usual there is some decent actors guest starring but it just doesn't c...

Similiar plots to the previous episode.David Barlow goes to see the man Stan did to try and have some sort of job security.Elsie Tanner meets her latest fancy men.I don't know if that lasts long but doubt it.He doesn't have the style of say Alan Howard later on.Another enjoyable vintage edition, hope you enjoy yourselves.

In this episode a Russian wants to defect to England. It was still the cold war then as it pretty much is again now.The Americans want him as well though.Bruce Boa guest stars,he like Shane Rimmer and Ed Bishop were always in employment in the 70's and 80's/When British film and tv needed a real American in their cast.Enjoyable episode if a bit far fetched in bits.

Top quality acting
Ken is such a Tomcat. Val is so much nicer and more attractive than Jackie Marsh. I hardly recognise Dave Smith. It's his voice, but it doesn't look at all like the Dave Smith of the 1970's. If it wasn't for the voice I'd say it's a completely different actor playing the part of Dave Smith. Reginald Marsh also played Mildred's sister's rich husband in the early 1980's comedy, George & Mildred.
@@dianewalker4633 By the 70's Marsh probably knew the character Dave Smith inside out.Don't know when he first appeared but this is early days for the character.
Thanks for sharing. Great to see scenes between Alan & Elsie. The chemistry between Alan & Pat is sizzling
I appreciate these uploads. Thank you for taking the time & hope you can do more. They’re a pleasure to watch.
Been watching 1st time and appreciated thanks🎉
Hello, do you have Chapter 15 of season 1 of "Angels"? If so, upload it please, I need it
Nice to hear the long theme at the end of the programme. A beautiful piece of music. The end credits scrolling at such a slow speed was nice too. An age when people had time to just slow down and enjoy the experience.
I think it was more likely they needed to fill out the time. Episode doesn't look to be underunning, so maybe Granada were going by what the network said to cover something that went wrong.
Brilliant episode...but where did Minnie get that coat!
@@dannyhardie3495 Did she not say in episode how she got it?.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iy no, she was playing mysterious, all she would say was a man bought it for her....probably Bobby dragged it off someones washing line!

Thanks for these.
Alan howerd really looked the part and he and the wonderful elsie made a great match.so tragic the way it all worked out.
Mrs sharples is my favourite. Such a strong women, great actress and wonderful pianist. Corrie was never the same without her.
Elsie looks great.she's done some weight and dresses really classy.a really glamorous lady.
I certainly don't blame Nurse Smart wanting to get away from her offensive husband Roger and his solid coppering ways. Those two retailers Bejam and Richard Shops, shown during the carol singing at the end, certainly date the series and going to 'discos'.
Cliffhanger 😮

Excellent episode, a brief vacation into the country open air with hints of Midsomer Murders to come: lovely timeless rural areas are no more immune to crime and impulsive villainy than New Towns. It's a reworking of the classic Georges Clouzot crime film Le Corbeau/The Raven about a poison pen letter epidemic in a country village full of guilty parties and an excess of close contact in a confined space breeding universal contempt and bitterness. Dear old lady character actress Sylvia Coleridge, usually cutely eccentric, grabs her part by the throat and really acts for all she's worth, an excellent portrayal of a desperate character. Her much older father and the actor portaying him fearlessly adds to the fun. James Doran's script is a neat variation on the classic crime show trope of two separate mysteries and lines of enquiry whose solutions converge, fairly satifactorily as it turns out. A well-turned tale and a touching understated farewell to Stone and Slater, last seen alone and keeping his own counsel in a composition out of Edward Hopper, a lonely man and a lone samurai.
Great stuff. Thanks very much!
An odd mix here of location filming and OB. TV at the time rarely did both in the same show and I can only imagine the film was already in the can when the studio was pulled. Probably an electrician's or scene shifter's strike at TV Centre. Though retooling the scripts for OB does make the show a bit more realistic than it otherwise would be, even if the sound does suffer a bit in places. John Abineri and Michael Wisher have been banished to the Newtown Forensics lab after that unfortunate incident with the alien ambassadors four years before. John Baskcomb also after allying his circus to the Master. John Slater looks very ill here. Not surprisingly, it was his last appearence in Z-Cars. These first 2 episodes of series 9 were probably recorded at the end of the production block for series 8 - looks to be late spring 1974 by the look of the trees in the location shots. Ron Craddock produced them, and was replaced from the next episode by Roderick Graham who ruthlessly had John Slater retired and told Ian Cullen he was being written out. Whether Z-Cars move to a mainly OB based show was his decision or forced on him by the BBC I don't know. Ron Craddock moved from here in mid-1974 to get Angels off the ground. As a result, a lot of the guest actors in Angels were often very familiar faces if you've seen early 70s Z-Cars. The directors were pretty much the same too.
@@matthewlawrenson3628 There was a strike mid 74 so these were made during that time.I have seen third episode and it has the more usual mix of film and studio work usual for then.Didn't know Skinner was removed later in that run not by choice.Thought he had wanted to go,pity if it wasn't.Not seen yet but he had a dramatic farewell I know.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iy There's a short interview with Ian Cullen on RUclips where he talks about working on the series and his departure (taken from volume 2 of the Z-Cars DVD release).
Thats a great comment and fascinating about being made at the end of the previous series. I had a quick look on IMDB and the previous series ended in early June. Maybe the "summer of sport" affected the schedules etc...Often wondered about drama series and how they end as in 76 for instance both Softly softly and the brothers got the boot. Maybe in 77 regarding Z cars the production team and cast were told there was to be one more series filmed as obviously the final episode was obviously filmed as the end of an era
Nance -Poof House (in a grammar school uniform) from "Get some in"!.
IMDB says that this was the last ever appearance by John Slater as DS Stone because he was becoming more and more ill, and died in January 1975. In that final scene in the cafe, he does not look at all well :-(
Massive belly flop by Skinner there

People still burn cables in spain to get the copper and the environmental COPPERS do sweet f**k ALL about it. 👮♂️👮♀️💤💤💤
Percy's chosen an old bush to trim he says. I can see Biddy Baxter giving Groom looks from behind the OB camera to say "Don't even THINK of it." Getting in the plugs for Grange Hill here. Nothing like a little cross promotion. Though we 6 year olds back in 1982 didn't know how how Zammo was going to end up. Though I doubt I was shocked by anything more in 1982 than seeing Gripper Stebson, of all people, in THAT jumper. I assume he was told to wear it to assure the audience that he was an actor, and not a violent, racist thug. I read somewhere that Mark Savage used to be abused by members of the ever credulous and stupid British viewing public because of who he pretended to be at 16. I have no memory of the Isla St. Clair series. Probably for the best, really.
Welcome back Matthew.Thought you were on hols or sick as not had one of your unique reviews for a few days.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iy I bought the box sets of the first two series of Angels, recently. Watching 28 episodes of that took quite a chunk out of my free time.
@@matthewlawrenson3628 Yes first two series are very good.Strange Lesley Dunlop only did first series, unless she already had good offers of other stuff come series 2 recording.
@@SteveHarris-nv9iy Dunlop would have been recording "Our Mutual Friend" (the BBC's latest prestige Dickens adaptation) when they were doing series 2 of Angels. I have a suspicion everyone in Angels was on a 1 season contract with options for a 2nd. At the end of series 1, they prime the audience to expect the departure of several nurses, presumably in case any of them left. I bet viewers were surprised to see Fiona Fullerton back after the way her storyline went. As it was, only Dunlop left - presumably she though Dickens would be better for her career than Angels.
