I love the way you just shut up and let him talk. It's brilliant interview technique that a lot of "journalists" don't seem to understand.
His best thing was definitely calling David Ginola "Dave" 😂

John is such a legend. I could listen to him for even longer. I think personalities like his are dying out in the managerial game and that's a real big shame.
Great interview as always Mat, I always say it but you give such great space for people to talk.

Class... Great memories of his time as manager, such a shame Doug held us back from pushing on to the next level.
Would have been nice to have heard Johns thoughts on the club/team today and the progression over the last few years, but still a quality listen to accompany my working day.
    Cheers all

Excellent interview and what a Villa legend. I was at some of the games John talked about including the 3:2 win against Arsenal with my son when we were 0:2 down at halftime, the parachutist hit the Stadium roof, got badly injured and Villa came back to triumph.
Special memories, thank you John Gregory, one of our best.

What a class act JG is. A lot of fans are locals who follow the Villa from a young age, but it's easy to forget just how many of todays faithful were lucky enough to fall in love with Villa under JG from afar. As an Irishman I was one, and I'm forever grateful.

Excellent interview Mat! Love John Gregory to bits. He gets it, everything about the club, he gets it! I was at the Liverpool Easter Monday game he mentions near the start, great afternoon eclipsed by John Deehans nutmeg of Ray Clemence for the 3rd! His passion towards the club is so forthcoming all the time. Another Villa great I’ve been privileged to see play, coach and manage.

Always liked JG as our manager, coach and player. I didn't know he wore every outfield Villa shirt - how many players can say that? He used to make me laugh with his quips, he was great with the media, puting them down when needed. Much respect for a man that loves AVFC. Thank you, John, for all your work and love for Villa.

Probably the best episode ever , you can feel JGs passion as he talks about our great club. He gave us fans some great memories as we played with a fair bit of swagger and desire as well as quality. He bought some tremendous players like Merson,Mellberg,Carbone and many more who really did entertain us fans. Forget the 2000 cup final, shit happens and I hope he doesn't let it get to him for ever. Top man is our John Gregory, and thanks to you guys at Claret and Blue for arranging this to happen. UTV

Thanks, million thanks, for putting this together. So many memories for me, such as the 4-1 against Spurs when Ardiles and Villa had just been bought. But lots of insights - about Ron Saunders, Doug Ellis, so much. Means so much when you have managers (like Brian Little, John Gregory, and Dean Smith) who live and breathe Villa. Want to thank John Gregory for everything he's done for our club.
Wish we had a Villa Hall of Fame for the likes of him and others. Why do we let such heroes fade into nowhere?

I have always thought that Ellis was the man behind Villa not really pushing on and now I know its true. Our 2 biggest achievements as a club came about when Doug was not there. Kind of tells you alot. Lets hope our new owners are here for the long haul. If they are, we will develop a better, stronger squad and compete with the bigger teams. It's really frustrating how Doug wouldn't push that little harder back in the day. Like Gregory said, he was happy to finish 15th with a small profit. We all knew it. Missing the CL gravy train really put us so far behind financially for years.
Then again I think I'd have refused to sanction a move for Izzet, he was crap, so maybe Doug wasn't all that stupid...

    Brilliant interview!!
Little story , when Gregory was at derby he found himself in a bit of hot water with some transfer business and at the time I lived and worked down the road from pride Park at a hotel witch just so happened held the hearing of the inquest to the dodgy dealings . Long story really short the media got wind of the hearing and turned up at the hotel (mickleover court) I remember waiting out back in my buddy's car witch was parked round the back whilst my mate popped back in to get his wallet. After waiting for what felt like a life time my mate turned up with about 5 blokes all suited and booted and 1 of witch was john ! They wanted to get him away from the hotel without being seen and was bundled in the back of a shity Little Renault clio, stinking of weed and other paraphernalia. I swear to god he never said 1 fucking word on the short little trip to the petrol station down the road where he got out , brushed himself down and jumped in to a Mercedes benz . Again brilliant interview!! Loved hearing about how he found out about landing the villa job !! Must of been a brilliant feeling. UTV
