Loved him as a manager for Villa. John Gregory was brilliant manager deserved more than the Intertoto Cup win. Had a great squad and some epic games under his reign. Happy days.

My 7th birthday! Manchester United beat Chelsea 1-0 in the 12.30 kick off that day, all the more memorable as Phil Neville scored the winner!

Doug Ellis was in hindsight quite a gentleman and stand-up guy. Often got a lot of unfair flack. I'm sure he had his moments too but he was a reliable custodian of Villa.

I think Villa really came close to big success in those days

It's telling that since he left we've ended up with mountains of debt, almost been issued a winding up order by HMRC and now no longer even own Villa Park. Yet fans are happy so long as we're spending money we don't have.

I found an Ellis Out badge I used to wear to match days. I am abit embarrassed by it now. He wasnt perfect, but kept us debt free.

God Bless and RIP Doug Ellis. Aston Villa’s most recent success has come under his ownership. Great childhood memories for me growing up 80s/90s supporting Villa. Now with NSWE and Super Unai Emery, we are about to bring the good times back to B6! UTV!

I felt very disappointed that Gregory didn't go on to have further success after managing Villa... Cos he really knew what he was doing... Many. Maybe it was due to him being so familiar with Villa, I don't know - but John aays came across as a very confident man who knew his own mind. Who knows, but I appreciated his time at Villa... Shoulda won that awful FA Cup final though 😉

The Coca-Cola cup winners, Aston Villa (strong)... Brian Little, good manager... The difference is work ethic & credit (Gregory's Villa at-the-end of the day)... END

The one thing or the last thing Doug would do would be to sack Brian Little. He was like a father to him!

Statistically, Gregory was the greatest Villa manager. Uni has a chance to eclipse this. We will wait and see. 👏👏👏👏
