I also think Jamie holding the recorder saying “I miss him you know” is also frazer talking about pat, they were best mates through that era and even close after who. The recorder part wasn’t just a tribute to 2 but to his close friend who he misses dearly P.s. sos Josh know hartnell is your bae but patty boy will always be my classic doc x
Loved this series, so beautifully done. I like to think of the Memory TARDIS concept as basically the same as what occurred in The Name of the Doctor. It's time travel via dreams. Vastra, Jenny, Strax, River and Clara sat around a table and drank tea in a dream world, even though they're in different locations and time periods. It's real, but its not literal, it's subconscious. 'Time travel has always been possible in dreams'.
With timelord companions like susan or romana I think it would be amazing if they came back for their regeneration story so their stories could continue if the actresses didn't want to come back for more than one special.
@JoshSnares Great video Josh, glad you decided to cover Tales like this. Regarding Colin's new costume, I got to meet Colin in November of last year just after Tales of the TARDIS had debuted and asked him about it, mainly on the idea that if he requested a new costume. Colin told me he hadn't requested a new costume at all and was expecting to arrive on the filming day to have the original costume there. When he arrive he found out that they had created this new costume for him. My best guess is RTD was aware of Colin's dislike of the costume (though he was always willing to don it whenever called for) and decided to surprise him with something new. It's a fine costume and has several call backs to the original one, like the cat badge, but it is pretty jarring when you consider Peter and Sylvester had their original costumes again. I would've prefered either all the Doctors in their original costumes or each one getting a new costume or for McCoy, putting him in the TV movie costume.
Between Amy wishing Rory back into existence, the Testimony version of Clara saying goodbye to The 12th Doctor, and Donna “letting go” of the metacrisis, Jamie and Zoe are now the only memory-wipe victims who haven’t had their memories restored in the show itself.
I agree cutdown edits would have been cool! The best ones for me were the Steven/Vicki, Jamie/Zoe and Jo/Clyde for the same reasons as you really. They were very respectful of Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee and are probably my favourite eras of Classic Who. Katy is just the best and I'm sad we never got the Jo Jones Adventures!
I was talking to Sylvester McCoy at a con about a possible Five-ish Doctors sequel and he'd said that, sadly, the BBC stepped in to stop it from happening for whatever reason. I'd mentioned that it was hopefully because they were planning something more official for the 60th that featured classic Doctors and he agreed. I was so damn pleased to have found out that was the case with Tales of the TARSIS. I'll always wonder if he knew at the time and couldn't say anything...
@@JoshSnares Wholeheartedly agree. In retrospect the Fish Doctors was perfect as a one off thing and the classic series getting some proper love from the beeb was a lovely surprise for the 60th. I'm very happy with how it all worked out.
I loved TotT so much. It's very much like my therapy sessions, too, though I do wish we got a bit more with 6 and Peri. Like you said, I wish they addressed 6 being awful to Peri. And unfortunately, Classic, who really did mishandle their characters poorly. That can't really be fixed, but this show does help with addressing some of the bad writing choices. Also, I'm absolutely loving the Mr. Blobby t-shirt.
i hope in the second season we get a reunion between the Eighth Doctor and Grace, they had so much chemistry in the movie and i'd love to see more of them!

If you really wanted to dig deep, you could make a new Kamelion prop and discuss Kamelion’s traumatic mental health, but somehow I don’t think that one’s going to happen. Colin and McCoy only have Bonnie Langford; and I think we have more than enough Mel content with Doctor Who right now than ever :) The TV Movie is the go-to choice for McGann. It’d be great to see McGann with Daphne Ashbrook or Yee Jee Tso. That reunion would be fantastic, and you can see what these characters did after refusing to join the Doctor. And if they go down the route of Vengeance or Fenric, you could imply that they do get to go an actual adventure. The big problem being the licenses of these characters and the TV movie itself. That is a whole other kettle of fish. I honestly think a great shakeup would be to include the villains instead of the Doctor and Companion. Namely the Master. You could include an incarnation like John Simm, Michelle Gomez and Sacha Dhawan and give them some emotional closure that they can’t get in a full TV episode, while reminiscing about a Roger Delgado story. Alternatively, you could subvert expectations and have them refuse to open up and actively enjoy being the Master. Also, I know Derek Jacobi announced his retirement a while ago, but could you imagine getting to see him truly perform as the War Master onscreen? I would adore more Tales of the TARDIS episodes, especially if they got some sort of physical release :D
I'd personally rather have Eight with one of his Big Finish companions he referenced in Night of the Doctor, like Charley Pollard, although how you would actually pull that off I have no idea. (Maybe an animated version of Chimes of Midnight?)
I think my thoughts on the Memory TARDIS are best summed up by Moffat ten years ago: "Time travel has always been possible in dreams." No bi-regeneration or overarching villain needed. I like your idea for potential future installments of this series using edited versions of the episodes. Considering how we've just had The Daleks given that treatment, I think there's a real possibility of these two concepts being brought together!
I wonder if in another 40 years for the 100th anniversary, if we'll get New Who Tales from the Tardis? I'd love to see Matt, Karen, and Arthur reunited again, giving their story a happy ending. Much like how Jamie and Zoe got theirs 💙💙
I loved ace and 7s it was really great. I would love to see a constrained story with the two as a finisher . Play to their ages, you don't need to go running around like a lunatic have it more akin to ghostlight so it's held in one place. I have no issue with the memory TARDIS and I love the 13th doctors "fire" with the crystals. Very cool.
If I was RTD…this would be my second series 1. Susan and David on The Dalek Invasion Of Earth 2. Jo and Benton on The Daemons 3. 4 and Leela on The Robots Of Death 4. 5 and Nyssa on Black Orchid 5. 6 and Mel on Terror Of The Vervoids 6. 8 and Bernice on the TV Movie
11:58 - I thought that handkerchief you can see was the throwback to his original costume - a slight nod to it, while not using it. Reminded a bit of Q's line from Casino Royale - "You were expecting an exploding pen? Yeah, we don't really go in for that anymore".
When I saw the Sixth Doctor and Peri's ending and they go off for new adventures, I cheered. It's the biggest middle finger to Michael Grade and the unfair treatment that Colin Baker has gotten. And it almost brings tears to my eyes.
The thing about Colin's costume, it is a very expensive item, and I imagine that creating a new one for such a short scene would be cost prohibitive, and certainly not worth it as the actor prefers not to wear it. I do wish they had evoked it with a more colorful selection of clothes, though.
15:27 I kinda think it wasn't cost, since it shows up here. But maybe it's a surviving prop I'm not familiar with, and Colin wearing the costume would require a new one, I don't know.
@@Jansenbakerif the one onscreen in your timestamp came out of an archive it’s definitely not gonna fit present day Colin and I imagine with the age and it basically being a museum piece now you wouldn’t want him stretching and/or stressing it. If it is a piece they made now for the sake of having it on set, then yeah they definitely should have just gone whole hog and made him wear the thing
He's worn something like it for Big Finish promotional photos, so it couldn't have been that big of an issue. Personally, my guess is that this was actually intended to be the Curator, tbh.
@megelizabeth9492 that's been my thinking too and because it is Peri, why else would he just accept being called Doctor by an old friend and not Curator?
Wonderful! Glad you decided to review and talk about these as they were a delight!! Seeing Jamie and Zoe was such a highlight as I was just happy their memories came back!
As usual, great to hear your thoughts Josh! Tales was a fantastic part of the 60th! It was the perfect way to bring back classic companions and doctors and I really hope they end up doing a season 2 with the 4th / 8th Doctors and companions, It would maybe be interesting to catch up with rose and the meta crisis doctor? Or just a catch-up in general of some new series companions? Like maybe a companion meeting session in the remebered tardis?
Wonderful review! Thinking back, it’s got to be my highlight from the 60th anniversary. Stories written with love, passion and care for the characters and acted beautifully by all the actors. Waking up on the 1st Nov and binging them all was emotional and joyous. I think with Mel already being in the main show, it opens the door for classic companions to either appear in the main show or another spinoff entirely.
Another excellent, spot-on video, Josh. (And I completely agree with you about Colin Baker's costume - I understand why, but I wish they had put him in something more Doctor-y.) Not as a means of disrespect to any of other actors, but for me, this series resonated most with me when the episodes DIDN'T include the Doctor and it was the companions seeing each other again and talking about their shared experienced. You talk about your parents with your siblings in a much different way than you talk *to* you parents. I also completely agree that everyone just slips back into their characters like no time has passed. And as you watch it, you can almost see them de-age before your eyes. And I think that's the magic of "Doctor Who" - it keeps one young. And finally - I like "the Twin Dilemma." There. I said it.
Man a Tom Baker one on his own would be bliss with as many of his companions coming back to him at the very end would be beautiful. But yes loved this series! I had to pause watching them all back to back cause I was a mess 😂 Edit: the subtitles in the Colin and Peri review sent me 😭
I think a second Tales season could focus on major times The Doctor lost against his villains, maybe with McGann as the main focus Doctor. Or the Tales format is plain reworked for expansion, like an hour to an hour & a half thing of focused on other tales, like UNIT, The Master, Cybermen and Daleks, with the villain-focused ones being them studying past encounters with The Doctor as build up to a reappearance for them in the show.
Completely agree that they should have used cut down edits, as more of a bridge to introduce Nu-Who fans to Classic Who, 45 minute versions would be ideal!
Your comment about it being unlikely to ever see Steven in the new series is particularly funny, since apparently, according to RTD in DWM, in early drafts of The Giggle, the Vlinx was actually going to be a cow in a space helmet, called the Ruminant, and then it was going to be revealed that the Ruminant was actually Steven in disguise (referencing the "space helmet for a cow" line from the Time Meddler. )
I’ll be honest Josh, you’re like the only Whotuber I’m watching at the moment. I’m haven’t really been feeling that into the show recently but your videos are so good that I watch them despite that
that being said, I like to think the memory tardis is sort of like... the tardis dreaming about past companions and connecting them to the doctor while they all share a dream likely forgotten in the morning. a time vortex vr hangout lobby if you will
Long time viewer, first time commenting! :) love your reviews and recreations Josh! BUT: personally I loved Colin's new costume. The colours and pattern were very faithful to the classic coat, but felt like a maturing of the Doctor and reflecting his calmer, less abrasive attitude which we've heard in Big Finish :) I actually found it less distracting to see Colin in a new costume then I did to see Peter and Sylvester in their old attire. It felt more accurate for the Doctor to change his style in his twilight years than to be wearing the same old costume. But that's just my opinion and I think your comments on the lack of a carthatic conversation between Peri and Doctor 6 are very fair. :) anyway keep making these videos! They're a highlight of my Who-experience :)
Yes trauma happened between sixie and Peri, but they'd sorted all that out by the time they got to the start of Trial, so it would be weird to rehash that so many years later 🙂
I wonder if the Memory TARDIS is the 14th Doctor's TARDIS becoming that after he's gone. On Trenzalore or otherwise. Maybe the Memory TARDIS is somewhere in the massive TARDIS on Trenzalore, and all this could be happening while The Name of the Doctor is going on.
Two is my favorite classic Doctor but him and One’s companions are both absolute god tier and seeing the actors come back absolutely melts my heart. I love Stephen! I never thought I’d see Stephen again. There’s something so nice about seeing these B&W, low budget season companions get a moment in the big, bombastic, vibrant version of the show we have now.
I'm a Whovian. By default, I'm a lover of camp. But Mr. Blobby has a malevolence that could potentially reform both The Master and Davros. But seriously, to each their own.
I'm glad you got more out of these than me! The only one I thought wasn't sappy, over-explained crap was the Vicki/Steven one. I think maybe just because they slip right back, but moreso because it's a dynamic we haven't seen overdone to death (Adric griefing/Peri's departure/Ace forgiving 7) The in-character introductions to the missing episodes and stuff on the ___ Years VHS tapes gave me more than this. I kinda hope this one doesn't come back. It's not going to reach new viewers and fans have seen these scenes endless times. Makes me sad that the actors can all return and this is all they ever seem to be able to do anymore. Also strikes me as RTD and co wanting to do 'their version' as if it has more value than the expanded material.
They spend SO much time explaining the premise each time that it eats into any actual fun, too. Nobody caaaares why they're able to recount their adventures. Doctorverse yourself off, Davies.
I feel what ultimately hurt tales of the tardis was it’s exclusivity to bbc cause there are international fans like me who love watching the show in general no matter who is the doctor even though we have our favorite doctor like me mine is Matt but I ultimately love just watching the show and having most of the 60th anniversary being bbc exclusive could’ve made the anniversary feel lackluster compared to the 50th anniversary celebration that felt more internationally inclusive
Great vid again, Josh 🥰 I've somewhat got mixed reaction to this series. I watched a couple of 'Tales' but ran out of steam, meaning to come back to them at a later time - unrealised at this point. I can't characterise why . But enjoyed your vid so it may inspire me to watch the remaining 'Tales'. Having said that, The Time Meddler was excellent.
I enjoyed these a lot. They came at a time when I was having a little doctor who binge in the run up to the anniversary, so it was a fun different way to watch some extra stories. I ended up watching it in doctorial order, time meddler then mind robber, then three doctors etc. I was happy to watch them all the way through because I'd been watching full doctor who serials anyway. It was interesting that the scene in the Time Meddler where the vikings raid the village and the woman's reaction to that later on are both absent from the TOTT release, I suspect that maybe with the nature of what is implied to have happened there they wanted to make it a little more family friendly, and that is super dark, it's the only thing I noticed to be edited out from these omnibus editions.
My favourite was the curse of fenric, I love the 7th Doctor and Ace and to see them in Power Of The Doctor was amazing enough but this was perfect, just those two, alone and older, talking and joking
I caught Tales of the TARDIS on RUclips (no VPN). I really liked the episodes. Nice concept and really great to see these characters (and actors) back. For me Jamie & Zoe brought a tear to this cynical Boomer. Very cool to see fans like yourself appreciating the Classics(in your case with amazing knowledge and humour). Let's face it some are tough to watch. PS I agree with the comments on Colin's costume
I've got to find a way to see this series. You said you cried for all of them... I was getting chocked up with you just talking about Seven and Ace episode. Seven was my Doctor! So, to get a chance to see last classic TARIS team together again would just be ACE!
Why stop there it could be more important for the current fans to have a better insight in the secrets of stories sometimes forgotten or reset or not. Tales Of The Tardis is larger than the inside it is a Fantastical history with sadness and darkness and many unknown mysteries due to plot holes. I imagine even the Tardis have memories, and should have a tale to tell. Though how it could have been done surprisingly. Additionally, if it is possible a very different version from those behind the cameras 60 year's worth of pictures and lost notes and some oddities say around the 70s and 80s with possible outtakes unseen orf Forgotten? Memories Of Time and Space insight inside The Tardis. Dedications to the first second third Doctors by some who knew them best families and companions and especially William Russell because he and his co-star deserve more they were the first alongside Susan Foreman. Carol Ann Ford.
Honestly if they really didn't want to do Big Finish Stuff. (As much as I would love to see Charley live action) I think having McGann and Eric Roberts sit down would be really cool! Like that would be very different for the formula. Give time to discuss the Doctors relationship with the Master over the years not just their encounter.
Hey I’ve loved your channel for a few months now. Would you be open to discussing Patrick Troughton’s run in maybe a ranking? I’m looking to make a documentary about Troughton and I’d love to talk to you about it 🙏
I think it's interesting you raise the point about Mark Hamill. It just reminds of the whole Family Guy Blue Harvest thing when Peter/Han introduces himself as 'the only actor whose career isn't destroyed by these movies'. Our identification with companions comes primarily from this source. In any case, I had a Luke Skywalker figure long before a Dr Who figure (although not the rare one with the yellow lightsabre).
If Colin didn't want to wear the rainbow jacket, it might have been cool if they made him the blue variant from his offscreen adventures. Or hell. just put him in a rainbow waistcoat or something instead. Also, what if the memory tardis is The Doctor "doing rehab out of order"?
I loved the mini-series, and I hope for new episodes, but maybe only in the 70th anniversary. I think it's best in small doses, as something really special. Also, I know it might be too early (and would certainly not happen while DW is with Bad Wolf), but I'd love to see one of those specials with Eccleston and Piper. I think a special like this would be the only thing I see Eccleston returning for (apart from audios), and it could be such a emotional thing to watch the character of Rose meeting with the Doctor as she first met him. But yeah, not gonna happen anytime soon. Maybe in the 80th anniversary...
I also think Jamie holding the recorder saying “I miss him you know” is also frazer talking about pat, they were best mates through that era and even close after who. The recorder part wasn’t just a tribute to 2 but to his close friend who he misses dearly

If only I could get a hold of him…
The thing about Colin's costume, it is a very expensive item, and I imagine that creating a new one for such a short scene would be cost prohibitive, and certainly not worth it as the actor prefers not to wear it.
Very comforting stuff ❤❤
💕💕💕
Wonderful! Glad you decided to review and talk about these as they were a delight!! Seeing Jamie and Zoe was such a highlight as I was just happy their memories came back!
Beautifully done! ❤
All good suggestions!!
Great one Josh thanks!
I am really looking forward to the 7th one on the 20th I really hope it's Tom with 15 and Ruby
I said it.
Thank you very much!
Man a Tom Baker one on his own would be bliss with as many of his companions coming back to him at the very end would be beautiful.
But yes loved this series! I had to pause watching them all back to back cause I was a mess 😂
Edit: the subtitles in the Colin and Peri review sent me 😭
I think a second Tales season could focus on major times The Doctor lost against his villains, maybe with McGann as the main focus Doctor.
Or the Tales format is plain reworked for expansion, like an hour to an hour & a half thing of focused on other tales, like UNIT, The Master, Cybermen and Daleks, with the villain-focused ones being them studying past encounters with The Doctor as build up to a reappearance for them in the show.
This is beautifully edited and produced film, well done.
4:38 Nyssa!!!
I can't believe I'm early for this! Loved tales of the TARDIS, and loved this review!
thank you for watching!!
Completely agree that they should have used cut down edits, as more of a bridge to introduce Nu-Who fans to Classic Who, 45 minute versions would be ideal!
I love the new scenes
Your comment about it being unlikely to ever see Steven in the new series is particularly funny, since apparently, according to RTD in DWM, in early drafts of The Giggle, the Vlinx was actually going to be a cow in a space helmet, called the Ruminant, and then it was going to be revealed that the Ruminant was actually Steven in disguise (referencing the "space helmet for a cow" line from the Time Meddler. )
omg i read that and completely forgot about!! Could you imagine?! Hilarious!
I agree about the Sixth Doctor's costume.
"What the fawk is going on"
Still cracking me up 😂😂
I’ll be honest Josh, you’re like the only Whotuber I’m watching at the moment. I’m haven’t really been feeling that into the show recently but your videos are so good that I watch them despite that
Thank you :)
babe wake up, new Josh Snares dropped
that being said, I like to think the memory tardis is sort of like... the tardis dreaming about past companions and connecting them to the doctor while they all share a dream likely forgotten in the morning. a time vortex vr hangout lobby if you will
Long time viewer, first time commenting!
For those of us outside of the UK, it would be nice if this would be included as extras when the recent Tennant stories are released on Blu-ray.
Colin should of wore the big finish blue suit or the TV one but all black
I'm not a HUGE fan of the blue outfit, but would be fun to see in live action!
@@JoshSnaresfor sure!
Nice job!
I thought they were all nicely done, especially with the 6th and 7th Doctors.
You are in Australia yes ? How did you watch these, I thought they were BBC exclusive

@@DrWhoFanJ are vpn illegal?
Good video.
Yes trauma happened between sixie and Peri, but they'd sorted all that out by the time they got to the start of Trial, so it would be weird to rehash that so many years later 🙂
I want a tegan and nyssa spinoff show that will nice to see
Thank you I love your videos to my heart
Thank you I love your videos to my heart ♥
Some body said that Tegan and nyssa are not a couple
It's complicated to say.
Glad to have you back. But of all things in the world, why are you wearing a Mr. Blobby t-shirt?
It’s called FASHION, it’s called HIGH CAMP!!!
I think maybe just because they slip right back, but moreso because it's a dynamic we haven't seen overdone to death (Adric griefing/Peri's departure/Ace forgiving 7)
The in-character introductions to the missing episodes and stuff on the ___ Years VHS tapes gave me more than this.
8 and Susan? two birds with one stone. don't even need to discuss their adventure together lol
Yeah that doesn’t surprise me that was edited out!
How did you watch them though?
iPlayer
My favourite was the curse of fenric, I love the 7th Doctor and Ace and to see them in Power Of The Doctor was amazing enough but this was perfect, just those two, alone and older, talking and joking
A much needed reunion!
I have an idea for how to bring Jamie back...
They should do one with Romana and K9
I like your glasses, mate
thank you :)
Great vid
Stephen and Vicki 😭🥲❤️
I've got to find a way to see this series. You said you cried for all of them... I was getting chocked up with you just talking about Seven and Ace episode. Seven was my Doctor! So, to get a chance to see last classic TARIS team together again would just be ACE!
For me its a happy ending that's all I care
Why stop there it could be more important for the current fans to have a better insight in the secrets of stories sometimes forgotten or reset or not. Tales Of The Tardis is larger than the inside it is a Fantastical history with sadness and darkness and many unknown mysteries due to plot holes. I imagine even the Tardis have memories, and should have a tale to tell. Though how it could have been done surprisingly.
Additionally, if it is possible a very different version from those behind the cameras 60 year's worth of pictures and lost notes and some oddities say around the 70s and 80s with possible outtakes unseen orf
Forgotten? Memories Of Time and Space insight inside The Tardis. Dedications to the first second third Doctors by some who knew them best families and companions and especially William Russell because he and his co-star deserve more they were the first alongside Susan Foreman. Carol Ann Ford.
Honestly if they really didn't want to do Big Finish Stuff. (As much as I would love to see Charley live action) I think having McGann and Eric Roberts sit down would be really cool!
Like that would be very different for the formula. Give time to discuss the Doctors relationship with the Master over the years not just their encounter.
I think the episodes were slightly cut down! I noticed a few cuts in The Mind Robber, like bits of the unicorn scene.
They should do one with the Reeltime/BBV characters in a Memory TARDIS, I wanna know where the porn Zygons are now!
😂😂😂
Second season confirmed josh
Where/how did you watch the series? It wasn't available in Australia, was it?

@@JoshSnares Thanks.
So basically, in order to watch it, you have to break the law. That hardly makes it a 'perfect' spin-off, does it?
Thank you for letting me know these exist. I had no idea.
I started crying all over again, TOTT was such a beautiful contribution
Wait wait wait.. where can I find these episodes?
IPlayer if from Uk, nowhere from everywhere else.
Where can I watch them?
