3 is a cheat: the clock was running before you even saw the actor - at 5 sec. there is only one hand and his nose visible: 3 seconds left to hit the ground - but being unconscious, it probably should NOT be counted as touching grass (being "embraced by" heather, more likely). Then his weelchair turns over on a patch of grass - so coming into contact with the greenery was not of his own free will. And touching the leaves of the tree, gets him shot by Unit-soldiers: whatever the Time Lords had intended - it did not go well with that doctor.
John Pertwee is the funniest one. He says imma speed run this category and immediately face plants him into the nearest shrub in his tenure. I'm just dying of laughter

he proved Ravalox was stolen by the Time Lords... the original STOLEN EARTH!!! And he saved himself as the 2nd in The Two Doctors. Quite an amazing chap the 6th. He is in my top 4.
Forget "The Fall of Doctor Who" or "Every Dalek Story Reviewed", this is the true best Doctor Who video on all of RUclips. This is the Doctor Who video essay of all time.
I was watching this video at 5AM and my dad came in & asked what I was watching. I said ‘A Leaderboard on when each Doctor first touched grass.’ And before going back to bed, he says ‘Pertwee’s winning.’

Technically speaking, the Fifth Doctor first left the grass when he was brought inside the ambulance after the cops turn up, then he touches grass again just before entering the TARDIS.
i dont think it counts due to the lengths he goes to avoid touching grass afterwards, clearly if he was in his right mind he wouldn't have touched the grass
I'm fairly certain that in the wide shot with 9 and Rose they're still walking on the path. It's because the camera is so far away you can't see the path. But if you look at the area where they were filming that scene, the place is criss-crossed with paths.
This was such a phenomenally fun watch. The editing in particular was snappy, creative, and flexed an ENCYCLOPEDIC understanding of the show. Great work, can't wait to see more.
"I think the Fifth Doctor being born in grass is cheating." Tell me you don't like the Fifth Doctor without telling me you don't like the Fifth Doctor.
34:03 I ACTUALLY STARTED CHEERING. You go, Mr. Tardis!!! I can't remember the last time I've enjoyed a Doctor Who video as much as this one. No drama, no angst, just pure enjoyment of the stories for a silly turn of phrase. Five gold stars, my friend. Stellar work. More of this!
In honour of Michael Jayston, I shall confirm that even the Valeyard has touched grass. While I don't know the exact timing (maybe one day I'll get round to it if I'm bored) The Valeyard touches grass in The Trail of a Time Lord: Part Fourteen, when he's teleporting around and lands directly on the one patch of grass on the Matrix beach. If anyone wants to get the exact time themselves, you have to time EVERY courtroom scene (regardless of whether the Valeyard is onscreen or not cos he's still in the room) up until Part Thirteen, when he runs into the Matrix. If you want to count him laughing maniacally and his voice over, then go ahead. Then in Part Fourteen when he's teleporting around until he hits the patch of grass 😅
Matrix grass counts as much as dream-state grass - but is is only the word of the master, that makes the Valeyard a "direct" incarnation of our Doctor(s) - there is the parallel world option or some more "bi-generation" buisiness to get to all the different versions of the Doctor (or the other titles, this immortal being may have used at any given time)
I swear Mr Tardis has some of the best humour of any Dr Who creator on the platform, sometimes the jokes he makes just catch me completely off guard like in his cybercember earthshock video and this video in my notifications just made me do a double take
I’ve been watching your videos for over a decade and this is one of the best you’ve ever uploaded. It’s equally hilarious and admirable the great length you went to answer such an interesting question!
Very insightful - always good to lawn something new! I applaud your enthusiasm and dedication. That was a long round trip to Newport. Hope it wasn’t too turf for you
They should make a gag spinoff of Doctor Who where this is literally the goal😂. Like the doctor keeps getting captured or delayed and is desperately trying to actually touch grass! Or maybe a spoof where he gets weeker every hour he spends away from grass but the aliens keep trying to (for both malicious and well intended reasoning depending on the episode) keep him off the grass! I'd definitely watch it lol.
Luckily this doesn't affect the ranking, but the NTSC to PAL framerate change means the 8th doctor really went 11 minutes and 48 seconds without touching grass
How are there so many plot twists in this video it's insane. Also do you know about the rejected story where the Daleks turn into grass and claim this is the prefect form of life? It also resolves all conflict in the universe somehow.
I think we need a stewards inquiry on 9th Doctor, I think he is still on the footpath. Unfortunately, that would need somebody to find out where it was filmed and then drive all the way out there to figure it out. But only an insane person would do something like that.
As someone who lives in Newport, it’s kind’ve amazing you traveled all the way from Manchester to go to a filming location just to see if Ncuti Gatwa really touched grass on the church. Nice one.
