🌀 Combine Citadel Explosion - 3 Minutes Before Singularity - Half Life 2

- The last breaths of the giant citadel and Kleiner's breencast speech, this is set at the base of the beast, while everything around and above crumbles both organically and synthetically.
This is inspired by the old video of Citadel Meltdown, where the only thing that was present was a still image with a lot of noise, but this is now re-envisioned with Source Filmmaker for all to witness the beautiful, #animation explosion of the #Combine #Citadel of Half Life 2.

I like how the scanner hears "dr issac kliener" and attacks the screen, killing itself.
Dr kleiner?!? Suck you!!!!
Somehow, the scanner was able to knock down the entire screen.
After what happened to the citadel, it may have been malfunctioning. Kind of like that one synth dropship that bumps into a wall and crashes while the strider it was carrying may have already been dead.
Kleiners dance broadcast is what convinced me to stay in City 17, despite my doom, to watch his ancient form sway so seductively
please never speak again
Oh my god...
I'm glad you're staying in City-17 you need to be exposed to some radiation

FOR GODS SAKE OPEN THE CITADEL'S DOORS!
Stahp
hello
The last moments of a random citizen that got his legs crushed under pieces of debri as his wife ran away to tell his tale
I like to think that the Striders that are left to patrol the ruined and soon-to-be-completely-destroyed city are just like "Well shit. Guess I'll die."
I like how literally every combine creature, device or snyth knows they're gonna die. They're all trying to either escape or are trying to just end themselves right there and there.
Imagine being that elite, attacked and impaled on a piece of rebar, lapsing in in out of consciousness, your vocoder damaged as you try to tell surviving units to flee the city, you hear the director saying counting down as that damned rebel scientist directs citizens to leave, then as you black out again everything gets bright as you hear the citadel explode in a massive singularity
What about the zombine soldier? He's still transmitting updates to Overwatch, despite having a headcrab impaled in his spine.
Inlet oof
Inlet imagine being that poor bastard, you lost contact with your team and while trying to find a evac were jumped by a headcrab, now you are forced to roam the streets searching for prey, you can barely even use your vocoder which you use to try to warn your former squad mates about what happened, as you hear that damn scientist you hope a rebel will put you down, as you start to hear the director count down to the destruction of the citadel you pray that it goes faster, as it explodes and fire engulfs you you smile as your pain finally ends
@@Inlet no the zombie soilder wasent updating the current status they do that to drag more soldiers out to the location its at so they can get infected to
Epic
It's super cool but really anxiety inducing watching the Citadel in its final moments. I feel like I need to get away quickly or else I'll be buried beneath rubble.
Why run if that's what you're seeing. It'd be too late and the only thing left to do is just have your last moments in a magnificent explosion.
you wloud be (in my opinion) eradicated if you were within the city limits so you wont feel any pain
and if that was not true than at least it wloud be quick and wloud hurt like 3 secconds until your brain wloud go to * *ehem* * pernament sleep
And imagine, if there were still rebels, who didn't have time to leave the city. Poor people...
haha yes, even though the citadel was lost city 17 rebels have been scattered. GLORY TO THE UNIVERAL UNION!
Wouldn't they get instantly vaporised though?
I wonder what happened to barney tho
I think if you where to hide in a underground shelter near the limits of city 17 maybe you could have a chance at surviving the explosion, cause when you look at city 17 from the distance, some buildings at the city limits seem to still stand
@@civilprotectionunit8145 there are tho, the super loyal cp's
The citadels alarm the sounds of the machinery and everything falling apart has always been scary to me.
agreed
I could stare at this for a few hours waiting for random events to happen. Two things, though: the advisors leave the Citadel right before it explodes, and the ending song was off-course from the serious vibe of the video. It would be cool too to see the blue sky effects right before the explosion.
That one overwatch at citadel exit: DOOR STUCK! DOOR STUCK! PLEASE! DOOR STUCK!
imagine being a combine soldier during all this
fuck that would suck, yeah?
what about a cp?
A cp is much worse
Then 20 years later Aoomers make a Little dark age montage about you
@@civilprotectionunit8145some of them at the end of ep 1 tried to steal a train so THEY can escape.
This was a great animation, but you left out the part where all of the advisor pods get ejected from the citadel.
They ejected too fast for the eye to see.

hearing *_Half Life: Alyx_* soundeffects in Half Life 2 will always make me feel uncomfortable for no reason.
@GoTi4No Yes, of course it does.
But having played Half Life 2 just recently, while trying to study the Combine Architecture, has made me get used to the standart noises.
Hearing new sounds however, that didn't existed before, makes me feel somewhat uneasy anyway, and I can't explain that phenomenon.
Some kind of audio uncanny valley
@@EdgarFroes Exactly
@@MrGermandeutsch Oh good, Im not the only one who constantly replays HL2 just for the Studying the Combine-

3:01 OMG Kliener's dance?!
Kleiner's secret weapon

0:48 my god that scanner had me on the floor, i have no clue why, but watching im back up farther on his last attempt had me on the floor
From fear or laughter?
@@Inlet just laughing, the little guy was determined.
I love this, you managed to create an atmosphere that completely enveloped me, an amazing job.
Well we all stayed in city 17 to watch kleiner's dances.
POV: you tripped and broke both your legs on a dead elite's pulse rifle, and now must watch as the citadel destroys what remains of city 17.
ok but seriously, think about it. tripping on someone's weapon is probably more likely than you think
@@rebel6301 POV: you, Gordon Frohman at the end of Concerned
If valve ever goes for a half life multiplayer game a game centered around a bunch of short matches in city 17 during the downfall would be gold
Imagine:
Your a combine soldier.
You are securing the area after the rebels' attack with other combine units.
You feel a vibration come from the ground.
You see the citadel is melting down.
A piece of shrapnel impales you and your friend.
Your friend is dead and you are stuck under a destroyed bit of the citadel.
You can see but cannot move as you are stuck.
You watch as a strider, combine zombie and a city scanner goes past you, not noticing you.
You watch the broadcast of a scientist telling you to evacuate.
The city scanner bumps into it and breaks it.
You watch as the citadel explodes Infront of you.
Then the scientist shows that he has a PhD in seductive dancing.

Numbers don't matter, who's first, who's last.
Kleiner dancing at the end was a nice way to break the tension.
Kleiner's graceful moves provided a delightful respite from the prevailing intensity. It was a momentary diversion, like a butterfly in a city ravaged by unforeseen consequences.
my lego tower falling down be like:
I see you used sound effects from Half-Life: Alyx, that just makes this cooler
I just love Episode 1's aesthetics, the whole game is a race against time as you go through City 17 (or what's left of it after the start of rebellion) one last time, knowing it will be wiped out entirely.
Also, the game is kind of like a reversed version of Half-Life 2. At first, you arrive on the train and in the end get to the Citadel. In Episode 1, you go to the crumbling Citadel again, and in the end board the train to take you out of City 17.
My left ear enjoyed kleiner's voice
Half-Life 2 Episode 1 is my favorite of the dlc’s. I just find the idea of trying to flee the massive city before the citadel explodes to be the funnest and most anxiety inducing race ever
Meanwhile there's a theoretical physicist running around a train station with a Colt Python in hand while under fire from a Strider, but he is still looking bada%# while doing it.
He'd be getting on the train at this point
@@Feasco the time it takes to begin the strider fight and hop on the train can be 3-6 minutes long, 1.5-3 if you know what you're doing.
WARNING. CORE MELTDOWN IMMINENT.
Me having nice tea party with my elite unit friend in front of citadel .-.
Firstly: the atmosfere is great, and it captured my attention. Good job!
Secondly: is that combine elite dead? If so, then why is his eye red sometimes?
And finally: that ending part was a complete, unplesant surprise. I think, that there should be some sort of more fluid transition between the dark screen and Kleiner's dance.
His eye flickers I think because the suit is still partly powered but the eyepiece wiring is broken. Kleiner’s dance is just the outro.
@@Say-What I know this. Outro = the ending part.
The citizens who couldnt make it to the train needed closure, and Kleiner danced it to them
@@Inlet imagine your final moments being watching a old man dance as your entire city gets vaporized
The video title: "Combine Zitadellenexplosion - 3 Minuten vor der Singularität - Halbwertszeit 2 SFM"
Me a German: "Jawohl, Gorden Freiman"
It looks creepy, but the atmosphere is great!. Which you can watch endlessly as the citadel Explosive
Loved it. Would love to see Inlet make a film! It would be So Cool.
I wonder how many Civil Protection officers did manage to escape the city before it was destroyed.
Probably a lot since they weren't yet brainwashed and could disobey Overwatch.
@@Inlet wouldn't be surprised if the Combine Advisors had given orders for any Civil Protection deserters encountered to be executed on sight.
The cp's at the end of ep1 actually tried to catch a ride out
I love how the Elite's eye keeps going out
I love the way your profile picture stands out. I think it's the thick blue.
that probably means it's slowly dying or something.
0:36 Sectore...... is not..secure.........
i imagine a massive fleet of combine units just marching away from the city in the last few minutes as chunks of the Citadel fly off and the reactor begins to collapse, with even the scanners flooding out of the city as the reactor ticks down to detonation.
Ah, the grand exodus of a formidable fleet, marching away from the urban confines. As fragments of the towering stronghold disperse and the heart of power teeters, even the ever-watchful scanners join the exodus, fleeing the imminent armageddon. A snarling timebomb that cannot be disarmed.
Those are the soldiers you fight in ep2
