Nicole Sauls hiya- I'm 13 at the minute and about 2 and a half years ago I had my nose broke quite badly and was then bullied due to that - I am however going to get a rhinoplasty when I am 15 though (hopefully it depends on weather or not the doctor says I have to wait longer) and I was just woundering what the surgery it's self was like and basically just the effect it had on your self esteem afterwards xxx (luckily since it is for medical reasons I am getting it for free otherwise I don't think I would be able to get it)
Her voice got so shaky throughout some parts of the story, that made me tear up. Nobody should have to go through that, but people can be so horrific. I am so happy to see you happy now.

Instead of blaming girls for getting surgery let's blame us for judging people on their looks raising kids that judge others and causing young girls to feel the way they do about their face and bodies!! We idolize the Kardashians but judge every other girl who does anything like this!!

the people who are against plastic surgery don't realize how big of a role looks can take in self esteem. Its so much easier to live when you love yourself, who cares if you have to do something "unnatural" to achieve that

Hi Linda Wolfe, I have a question. as someone who would love to get a nose job I'd like to know: does it limit your activities? I'm a very active and sporty person. I fear that what if my nose is vulnerable, even after it's fully healed from surgery? or what if I get hit with a ball in my face even after my nose fully healed? Hi Tasneem - No it doesn't limit your activities after it's healed. I got it at 16 and played high school volleyball, basketball, cheer and track. It was a great decision and I never had to feel self conscious about my nose again. Best wishes!

Devin Daniels I think a better idea is for us to have less plastic surgeons. Surgery---ANY surgery---is risky. If you have cancer, surgery is understandable. But to risk your health to look better is not a good idea. Any doctor will tell you that every surgery carries risks. Many people who get nose jobs end up with breathing problems. Better to just dislike the way you look and get on to more important things. The people who really care about you don't care if you have a big nose.
I started crying at the part about the app, because i do the exact same thing. i edit my nose, and delete the original picture and post the edited one. im so shook about how much i can relate to that
i think a lot more people edit their pictures than would like to admit, and the popularity of social media has definitely made everything much harder because people begin to let the amount of likes they get influence their confidence and self worth. there is a ridiculous standard of beauty in this day and age and i wish more people would be able to see that there isn't just one specific type of beauty- you can have a variety of different features that deviate from the societal norm and still be beautiful. we are not all meant to look exactly the same!!! my heart goes out to you because i know first hand how much of a struggle it is when you feel a specific part of you stands out in a negative way. i hope everything gets much better (and it will, trust me) 💖
Ugh me too! And sometimes it's not even just my nose, it'll be my lips or my eyes too. I always felt bad because I felt like I was being "fake" or "catfishing" by basically giving myself plastic surgery every time I edit a pic. But I'm kinda glad i'm not the only one!!
I've had braces, and a nosejob, and let me tell you... I spent *more* money on my braces than I did my nosejob! And in terms of pain and discomfort, the braces were much worse. My braces were 2 years of torment, horrible pain after every tightening, ulcers, cuts inside my cheeks from the wire, days of not being able to eat properly, people looking at my funny (I was in my 20's), looking *worse* because I metallic teeth. For two, years, of my life. The nose job? I was only on very light pain killers, even though it was very uncomfortable the pain was minimal, but after about 10 days I felt great. A month later and I felt back to normal! I would 100% do the nose job again over the braces.
its so crazy because i never understood people argument against plastic surgery saying "god made you a certain way blah blah" but its the same people who go out and get braces or invisalign to fix their teeth, I know its not exactly the same things but your still improving or changing your appearance from what it naturally did looked like.
Elexia c well a nose job is changing a feature you were born with. For teeth for example, you are correcting it to make it look like what it "should be". Hence the stigma. Anyway, I still don't get the hate for it, I would love a nose job in the future lol
Eh it's not really the same thing because having crooked teeth can lead to dental issues. Yes people usually do it for self improvement but it can still cause issues health wise. That said, I don't have anything against surgeries just as long as the long term affect isn't worst then the immediate affect. Her nose looks great!
NOT everyone gets their teeth fixed solely for hygiene related issue. getting braces for A small gap for instance isn't health or hygiene related. you totally missed the whole point of my comment. Theres people who literally get their nose done for simply not being able to breath out of it, thats health related. So please explain to how Im wrong. and she clearly stated how bad she was bullied and picked. SO just think alone what that did to her mental health. I literally had to get braces because i had a over bite and my teeth were soo crooked they would have fallen out early on if i hadn't. but i have nothing against plastic surgery, if it makes you feel good and more confident. so be it.

I really hoped this would help someone because there is SUCH A STIGMA around plastic surgery but there is nothing wrong with it, and I remember being so frustrated that I wasn't able to find anyone going through the same situation as me (because when you get to that point and have made the decision to do it, watching videos about how you should accept yourself the way you are and how plastic surgery is "bad" is so tiring). Honestly this completely changed my life because I am finally comfortable in my skin! Hopefully your parents will be very supportive, good luck! 💕
Most people can't tell you had a rhinoplasty; they can tell your face looks different, but they can't pinpoint what exactly has changed unless you tell them. I'm not speaking from personal experience but this reaction is well documented on the internet. Remember, the goal of rhinoplasty is to make your nose less noticeable so people can see your other facial features better.

Was thinking the same thing. She looks nice now, but I really liked how she looked before, and I think her nose did fit with her face. Kids are jerks sometimes though...they usually grow out of it. By adulthood she wouldn't have faced bullying

Wow I can relate to this so much. All the name calling and bullying, the picture editing, the nose contouring and extraordinary lengths I would go to to make my nose smaller. I got a nose job when I was 18 and I can honestly say it is the best decision I have ever made in my life. Just like you, my insecurity was so crippling. I thought about it every day and every night. I told myself I didn't deserve love. I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. I was in such a terrible state of mind and finally I did something about it. I am so much more confident now and I am so happy! I barely think about my nose now and I would recommend a nose job to anyone who is considering it. It is truly a life changer
i got a nose job a few months back and i'm 18 too!! honestly i didn't get bullied at school but i knew that my nose was big (especially if i took a selfie), i did use one of those clips to make my nose look smaller like she did too but it didn't really seem to work. i'm so glad i got surgery it actually makes me feel so much better

Your old nose looks like mine lol. I got teased so bad in 7th grade for my nose too. Pinoccio, horse girl, tucan lol, blah blah, I don't remember all the names. I always tried to avoid letting people see my face from the profile, I also got a contouring book. I feel you girl. It's totally the Italian in us!!! It's hard growing up, kids are vicious and heartless. I never got surgery and now I'm able to accept myself and see on facebook all of the people who teased me are all now total loosers. But I get it 100%. You are beautiful inside and out, hope you know that now.

I got called "big nose" "nose" "snout" "nose guard", all through high school and got called ugly by the guys and never had a date for the prom, while the whores who had babies at 16 got guys. I will NEVER get rhinoplasty. If people don't like my nose, they can look the hell away.

This video breaks my heart because my twin sister has been treated the exact same way as you because of her nose her whole life. Everyone makes fun of her and it's the first thing they comment on! I see nothing wrong with her nose but all those people commenting on it made her so upset. Some days she says she wishes she was "normal" and bawls her eyes out. I wish people weren't so mean. She also tapes her nose like you did. Lilly Rose Next time someone says something to your sister about her nose, do this: 1. tell them to shut up 2. find a physical flaw on them (if they don't have a physical flaw, make one up, like tell them they shouldnt be talking because they dont have the best nose & they'll believe it... but mostly everyone has a physical flaw) 3. point that flaw out and make a mean comment about it. 4. walk away. if you are sitting down, turn away and talk to your sister about another subject. dont give them the satisfaction of replying or having time to answer you. if they say something back ignore them. tell your sister to do the same when someone makes fun of her. some people might say that this is too mean & you're just as bad for bullying them back, but realize that most young kids will stfu after they've had something said back to them just as mean as they dished out. if both of you use this, soon nobody will say anything about her nose because they will be too scared to have their own flaw pointed out. stand up for your sister and tell her to stand up for herself.

I experienced the same things starting with 6th grade and continuing in 9th grade until I moved to another school. My confidence was so low that I developed anxiety and depression and now I’m slowly recovering. Not because my parents were supportive, which they weren’t, but I realised I will someday pay my own nose surgery and be happy but right now it is not the time for that.
Lara Hdz I turned 18 three months ago but I still didn’t do anything to my face. I completely hate how my nose looks on my face but until I have my own money I hope I’ll start to love myself. If a guy only likes you because of your appearance or something as trivial and dumb as your nose shape then they didn’t deserve you anyway, don’t degrade yourself to being an object men only want because of how you look.... someone will come along that likes you for who you are, including the things you don’t like about yourself
This is such a sad story, but I understand this well. Anyone who is reading my comment, please remember that it says a whole lot about the other person (the bully) than it says about you. It is always them, not you, but unfortunately when someone, especially a young person gets judged or bullied because of something, they take it to heart and it impacts their life very much. I got a rhinoplasty yesterday and even though I look quite beat up right now (terrible brusing under my eyes) I feel this was the right decision. I haven't really been bullied because of my nose, but there have been people who have made comments in the past. My mother was the first person to tell me that I should get a nose job when I'm grown up. That was more than 10 years ago and I'm 27 now. For a long time I was against plastic surgery and didn't understand people who got it for only aesthetic reasons, but then I realized that why should I force to love myself the way I am if this is not what I would've chosen to look like and it makes me unhappy. I didn't hate my nose before, but I always got sad when I saw side photos of myself. Now even with the cast on I already love what my nose looks like from the side, it feels right.
Yes I also went thru that to the same extent but for me in "ur too skinny" or about my breasts and I got a boob job btw 2 yrs ago cause I had a child's chest
OMG! You are a strong person and beautiful to be brave enough to share this. Keep sharing your soul and your truth of how you see life through your eyes. I’m 35 and I felt self conscious about my nose too and have thought about surgery. I still don’t know yet. But if I decide too, I’m fine with it. And if I don’t I’m fine with it. There is a lot of understanding why you would get surgery. The point is you are happier and people need to understand how we see ourselves and how we feel about ourselves that matters. There’s no rule book that says you can’t alter your body to how you feel is needed. People manipulate their body all the time, going to the gym, body builders, fitness models, the list goes on! You seem like a sweet person with a good heart and that’s what matters. People who eject so much hate have so much to learn. And have not been bullied. Either way judgement is so not going to help anyone or prove anything other than they need a lot of love!!!

Cried the whole time because it reminded me of my high school experience. I can 100% relate to you, and I wish nobody had to deal with what I went through, as well as what you went through. I was picked on every single day starting in 7th grade about how big my nose is. I got called Pinocchio as well, but also big bird and ski slope (because I have a bump on my nose). Thank you to those bully's I can't leave my house without trying to look away from people so they don't look at my nose, and I feel as though everyone talks about me behind my back like high school. Every giggle or every whisper makes me feel self conscious. 9th grade was also the worst for me, I would be waiting in line for lunch and the Juniors would yell at me saying when did I break my nose or hey ugly & how many times a day do you lie. The pain i endured through school was the worst and I hope parents are raising their children to NOT be a bully. People really don't understand how much words can truly hurt a person. Good for you for doing what you wanted! Nobody else should be judging you based off of YOUR life choice. Now I just have to get the money in order to get a nose job--hopefully it will happen one day.

I went through the same exact thing you did as a kid. I was horrifically bullied because of my nose. I had complete strangers come up to me on a regular basis just to tell me that I was ugly, my nose was big, or that I'd be pretty if I had a smaller nose. I was called "big bird" 😂 You made the right decision. I'm 45 and have yet to have the money to get mine fixed. I used to beg my mom to let me get the surgery. We couldn't afford it, so there was no way for it to happen. I still struggle with low self-esteem and I still have to deal with men not being attracted to me. It's frustrating. It's made me stronger for sure, but I could have avoided years of pain and struggle. I have no tolerance for bullies and now I don't take any crap. You're courageous for telling your story and being honest. Stay strong!
I'm 20 and I just scheduled my surgery. We don't have a lot of extra money but my mom is paying for this over saving up for my tuition next year and it means the world to me.
First off ...I'm not Karen from Kohls. Second, props to your parents for supporting you and glad you are feeling confident. I have 3 year old with one droopy eye lid and my husband and I have said that we would support her having corrective surgery at an advisable early age of 4 to spare her from being bullied. She also has a large hemangioma on her ear lobe which will go away by age 10 but unable to wear earrings like her friends. So I promised that once she was able to we would get her a pair of diamond studs. She is taking notice of her looks and feel that those flaws make her ugly and for a time she didn't think she was beautiful until we began building up her confidence and letting her know that things can be always be corrected. I've just recently turned 15 and had Asian Blepharoplasty performed on myself. I fucking love the results. Plastic surgery doesn't deserve the bad stigma it has because it's honestly made me a hella lot more confident in myself. I plan to get a few more procedures when I'm older to correct my chubby cheeks because, well, if you can fix it, why the hell not? But thank you for sharing your story! I enjoyed it very much! And I'm so sorry that you were treated that way by your peers. It's honestly cruel.

Nicole Sauls hiya- I'm 13 at the minute and about 2 and a half years ago I had my nose broke quite badly and was then bullied due to that - I am however going to get a rhinoplasty when I am 15 though (hopefully it depends on weather or not the doctor says I have to wait longer) and I was just woundering what the surgery it's self was like and basically just the effect it had on your self esteem afterwards xxx (luckily since it is for medical reasons I am getting it for free otherwise I don't think I would be able to get it)

Hi Tasneem - No it doesn't limit your activities after it's healed. I got it at 16 and played high school volleyball, basketball, cheer and track. It was a great decision and I never had to feel self conscious about my nose again. Best wishes!

Devin Daniels I think a better idea is for us to have less plastic surgeons. Surgery---ANY surgery---is risky. If you have cancer, surgery is understandable. But to risk your health to look better is not a good idea. Any doctor will tell you that every surgery carries risks. Many people who get nose jobs end up with breathing problems. Better to just dislike the way you look and get on to more important things. The people who really care about you don't care if you have a big nose.
I started crying at the part about the app, because i do the exact same thing. i edit my nose, and delete the original picture and post the edited one. im so shook about how much i can relate to that
i think a lot more people edit their pictures than would like to admit, and the popularity of social media has definitely made everything much harder because people begin to let the amount of likes they get influence their confidence and self worth. there is a ridiculous standard of beauty in this day and age and i wish more people would be able to see that there isn't just one specific type of beauty- you can have a variety of different features that deviate from the societal norm and still be beautiful. we are not all meant to look exactly the same!!! my heart goes out to you because i know first hand how much of a struggle it is when you feel a specific part of you stands out in a negative way. i hope everything gets much better (and it will, trust me) 💖

I've had braces, and a nosejob, and let me tell you... I spent *more* money on my braces than I did my nosejob! And in terms of pain and discomfort, the braces were much worse. My braces were 2 years of torment, horrible pain after every tightening, ulcers, cuts inside my cheeks from the wire, days of not being able to eat properly, people looking at my funny (I was in my 20's), looking *worse* because I metallic teeth. For two, years, of my life. The nose job? I was only on very light pain killers, even though it was very uncomfortable the pain was minimal, but after about 10 days I felt great. A month later and I felt back to normal! I would 100% do the nose job again over the braces.

Eh it's not really the same thing because having crooked teeth can lead to dental issues. Yes people usually do it for self improvement but it can still cause issues health wise. That said, I don't have anything against surgeries just as long as the long term affect isn't worst then the immediate affect. Her nose looks great!

I literally had to get braces because i had a over bite and my teeth were soo crooked they would have fallen out early on if i hadn't. but i have nothing against plastic surgery, if it makes you feel good and more confident. so be it.

I really hoped this would help someone because there is SUCH A STIGMA around plastic surgery but there is nothing wrong with it, and I remember being so frustrated that I wasn't able to find anyone going through the same situation as me (because when you get to that point and have made the decision to do it, watching videos about how you should accept yourself the way you are and how plastic surgery is "bad" is so tiring). Most people can't tell you had a rhinoplasty; they can tell your face looks different, but they can't pinpoint what exactly has changed unless you tell them. I'm not speaking from personal experience but this reaction is well documented on the internet. Remember, the goal of rhinoplasty is to make your nose less noticeable so people can see your other facial features better.

Wow I can relate to this so much. All the name calling and bullying, the picture editing, the nose contouring and extraordinary lengths I would go to to make my nose smaller. I got a nose job when I was 18 and I can honestly say it is the best decision I have ever made in my life. Just like you, my insecurity was so crippling. I thought about it every day and every night. I told myself I didn't deserve love. I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. I was in such a terrible state of mind and finally I did something about it. I am so much more confident now and I am so happy! I barely think about my nose now and I would recommend a nose job to anyone who is considering it. It is truly a life changer

Your old nose looks like mine lol. I got teased so bad in 7th grade for my nose too. Pinoccio, horse girl, tucan lol, blah blah, I don't remember all the names. I always tried to avoid letting people see my face from the profile, I also got a contouring book. I feel you girl. It's totally the Italian in us!!! It's hard growing up, kids are vicious and heartless. I never got surgery and now I'm able to accept myself and see on facebook all of the people who teased me are all now total loosers. But I get it 100%. You are beautiful inside and out, hope you know that now.
You really are a boss lady! This is how it should be, I wish all of us could learn to accept ourselves and not see beauty as this set of very limited facial features. That said, I can't blame the girl either, she looks good and she really is a beautiful person!

I got called "big nose" "nose" "snout" "nose guard", all through high school and got called ugly by the guys and never had a date for the prom, while the whores who had babies at 16 got guys. I will NEVER get rhinoplasty. If people don't like my nose, they can look the hell away.

This video breaks my heart because my twin sister has been treated the exact same way as you because of her nose her whole life. Everyone makes fun of her and it's the first thing they comment on! I see nothing wrong with her nose but all those people commenting on it made her so upset. Some days she says she wishes she was "normal" and bawls her eyes out. I wish people weren't so mean. She also tapes her nose like you did. Like you, people also ask her if she's Jewish because of the "large nose" stereotype. :( I wish so badly I could help her esteem because she's the person I love most.

Next time someone says something to your sister about her nose, do this:
1. tell them to shut up
2. find a physical flaw on them (if they don't have a physical flaw, make one up, like tell them they shouldnt be talking because they dont have the best nose & they'll believe it... but mostly everyone has a physical flaw)
3. point that flaw out and make a mean comment about it.
4. walk away. if you are sitting down, turn away and talk to your sister about another subject. dont give them the satisfaction of replying or having time to answer you. if they say something back ignore them.
tell your sister to do the same when someone makes fun of her. some people might say that this is too mean & you're just as bad for bullying them back, but realize that most young kids will stfu after they've had something said back to them just as mean as they dished out.
if both of you use this, soon nobody will say anything about her nose because they will be too scared to have their own flaw pointed out.
stand up for your sister and tell her to stand up for herself.

I experienced the same things starting with 6th grade and continuing in 9th grade until I moved to another school. My confidence was so low that I developed anxiety and depression and now I’m slowly recovering. Not because my parents were supportive, which they weren’t, but I realised I will someday pay my own nose surgery and be happy but right now it is not the time for that.

This is such a sad story, but I understand this well. Anyone who is reading my comment, please remember that it says a whole lot about the other person (the bully) than it says about you. It is always them, not you, but unfortunately when someone, especially a young person gets judged or bullied because of something, they take it to heart and it impacts their life very much.
I got a rhinoplasty yesterday and even though I look quite beat up right now (terrible brusing under my eyes) I feel this was the right decision. I haven't really been bullied because of my nose, but there have been people who have made comments in the past. My mother was the first person to tell me that I should get a nose job when I'm grown up. That was more than 10 years ago and I'm 27 now. For a long time I was against plastic surgery and didn't understand people who got it for only aesthetic reasons, but then I realized that why should I force to love myself the way I am if this is not what I would've chosen to look like and it makes me unhappy. I didn't hate my nose before, but I always got sad when I saw side photos of myself. Now even with the cast on I already love what my nose looks like from the side, it feels right.

OMG! You are a strong person and beautiful to be brave enough to share this. Keep sharing your soul and your truth of how you see life through your eyes. I’m 35 and I felt self conscious about my nose too and have thought about surgery. I still don’t know yet. But if I decide too, I’m fine with it. And if I don’t I’m fine with it. There is a lot of understanding why you would get surgery. The point is you are happier and people need to understand how we see ourselves and how we feel about ourselves that matters. There’s no rule book that says you can’t alter your body to how you feel is needed. People manipulate their body all the time, going to the gym, body builders, fitness models, the list goes on! You seem like a sweet person with a good heart and that’s what matters. People who eject so much hate have so much to learn. And have not been bullied. Either way judgement is so not going to help anyone or prove anything other than they need a lot of love!!!
I just want to apologize for what you went through in school. So many people go through this bullying and torment by horrible human beings, just because of the way they look. Nobody has control over how they are created, and it is such a shame that drastic measures are taken to make themselves feel better. Thank you for sharing your story. It is such a brave thing to do. The image of what beauty is, has been so twisted by society. Cried the whole time because it reminded me of my high school experience. I can 100% relate to you, and I wish nobody had to deal with what I went through, as well as what you went through. I was picked on every single day starting in 7th grade about how big my nose is. I got called Pinocchio as well, but also big bird and ski slope (because I have a bump on my nose). Thank you to those bully's I can't leave my house without trying to look away from people so they don't look at my nose, and I feel as though everyone talks about me behind my back like high school. Every giggle or every whisper makes me feel self conscious.
9th grade was also the worst for me, I would be waiting in line for lunch and the Juniors would yell at me saying when did I break my nose or hey ugly & how many times a day do you lie. The pain i endured through school was the worst and I hope parents are raising their children to NOT be a bully. People really don't understand how much words can truly hurt a person.
Good for you for doing what you wanted! Nobody else should be judging you based off of YOUR life choice.

I went through the same exact thing you did as a kid. I was horrifically bullied because of my nose. I had complete strangers come up to me on a regular basis just to tell me that I was ugly, my nose was big, or that I'd be pretty if I had a smaller nose. I was called "big bird" 😂 You made the right decision. I'm 45 and have yet to have the money to get mine fixed. I used to beg my mom to let me get the surgery. We couldn't afford it, so there was no way for it to happen. I still struggle with low self-esteem and I still have to deal with men not being attracted to me. It's frustrating. It's made me stronger for sure, but I could have avoided years of pain and struggle. I have no tolerance for bullies and now I don't take any crap. You're courageous for telling your story and being honest. Stay strong!
My story is like u but Im 18
I'm 20 and I just scheduled my surgery. We don't have a lot of extra money but my mom is paying for this over saving up for my tuition next year and it means the world to me.
First off ...I'm not Karen from Kohls. Second, props to your parents for supporting you and glad you are feeling confident. I have 3 year old with one droopy eye lid and my husband and I have said that we would support her having corrective surgery at an advisable early age of 4 to spare her from being bullied. She also has a large hemangioma on her ear lobe which will go away by age 10 but unable to wear earrings like her friends. So I promised that once she was able to we would get her a pair of diamond studs. She is taking notice of her looks and feel that those flaws make her ugly and for a time she didn't think she was beautiful until we began building up her confidence and letting her know that things can be always be corrected. I've just recently turned 15 and had Asian Blepharoplasty performed on myself. I fucking love the results. Plastic surgery doesn't deserve the bad stigma it has because it's honestly made me a hella lot more confident in myself. I plan to get a few more procedures when I'm older to correct my chubby cheeks because, well, if you can fix it, why the hell not?
