    I got an angle grinder. I wanted to title this video "felt acute, might delete later" but I decided against it. Here's my overview and the first few projects/fixes I attempted with the newest tool in my tool kit - the Makita XAG04Z.

      Hey, no jackass-ery meant by this, but Toolbox is a word, you don't need to separate them.
      When in doubt, remember English is Germanic, *why say Tank* (armored in this context) *Battle Wagon when you can say Panzerkampfwagen?*
      A more English applicable example: "Worker" or "One who works"? Toolshed or Shed for Tools? Toolbox or Box of Tools?
      Hope you don't take these rudely and when in doubt "English is Germanic, I'll just make 1 words from 2+ words."
      Edit: added bold for more effect.

      I've never had that happen once in my life, and I use them daily. Only with tiny Dremel-sized type of grinders have I had cutting wheels fly apart on me. Also, why would you be aiming the tool in such a manner that the plane of rotation can make things fly at your face? Even with a face shield, I would not aim even the sparks anywhere near my body.

      WDE46 of course you should of seen the possibilities when you went on your abrasive wheels training course that allows you to change your blade/disc safely every couple of years. These images are sourced from countries where health and safety is poor and training is inadequate to the majority of users. We are always being shown incidents from America of guys having blades hanging out of them, hell i am friends with someone who went 5mm into the bone of his index finger because he knew better! Its not about PPE its about doing things safely, correctly rated PPE is also overlooked as people think goggles will do but are they impact rated? Where was the regard of grinding against dry painted wood that could happily catch fire as well

    Grinders are fun and versatile. Just remember some of the discs (metal cutting discs for example) do have expiration dates. The glues used to bind the grinding aggregate can degrade over time, causing the disc to want to fly apart. So check the disc and product package for any expiration information.

  • @PaulTheFox1988
    @PaulTheFox1988 4 года назад

    I have rarely used those removal tools when using a grinder, just switch it off, hold the lock button down and undo the nut by gripping the disc and turning it until the nut loosens, it saves a fuck tonne of time when switching between cutting and grinding.
    It's less safe obviously, but I was a fabricator/welder for 10 years and never had an issue.
    If you're cleaning up burrs after cutting with a cutting disc, you can, if you're gentle enough actually use the face of the cutting disc to clean them off, but this takes finesse, and should only be done where the cleaning is only minor.
    They also make the discs from fibreglass mixed with the actual grinding material, so as long as you don't drop them, they're very unlikely to break apart during normal use, if you nick or break a chunk off the disc though, throw it in the recycling bin, they're no longer safe to use. :)

    The spanner isn't for tightening the retention nut, but undoing it. When tightening it, it only needs to be done as tight as you can by hand. This allows the disc to centre itself, and due to the direction of the thread, it'll tighten itself. Using the spanner to tighten the nut and you could either a) have a slight imbalance or worse b) over tighten it putting too much pressure on the hub risking the disc to shatter.

    Seems like some of these still left sharp edges, I wonder if there's a polishing attachment you can use to smooth those off. Especially the one on the ground, you don't want Hannah stepping on it.

      QuantumBraced It looked like he ran his finger over a lot of them. Maybe the sharp appearance is a trick of the camera?

    You don't need the spanner when fastening the disks, just use your fingers to tighten it down. You can also tighten the nut by giving the disk a spin while keeping the spindle locked. When used disks will tighten the nut themselves if needed. I've been told that over tightening the nut can actually damage the disk, making it more likely to fracture. The spanner is there just to break the nut loose after use.
