I’m a retired US Air Traffic Controller…. ATC is hands-down the BEST career… IF you can handle the stress & shift work. I spent over 30 years cramming 10# of airplane into a 5# airport. There’s no greater satisfaction when the rush is (temporarily) over and no one had to hold and they all landed with minimum separation. There’s a pretty good movie about ATC called Pushing Tin. Some of it is kind of goofy, but they did a pretty good job of showing how we think in 3D and the competition between controllers about filling holes. I was told many times that “That’s not a hole” and my retort was always “Wanna bet!” 😊
I have 13 years of experience as a FIS specialist, flight information service, with several ICAO courses and certifications, in the Dominican Republic, what would I have to do to go to Canada to pursue my career.
Or like, consider Europe. As a Canadian, the cost of living here in any place within an hour of a major airport is so astronomically high that even an ATC here would live like a pauper.

Just to be clear, ATC has nothing to do with computer science. There are other teams that maintain the system and networking stuff. Air triffic control specialists are not hard jobs, and it's definitely not a stressful job. You can get in with a low education level. It is a basically watch stand job, they operates 24/7, and they provide services to the pilots. It is kinda like a 911 dispatcher job. You need to learn some air triffic languages and need to learn to use a track ball and a keyboard. Also, be ready to work with MANY other pps in the same room because you do not have your own office! You have to apply on their website, no school offers this training only NAV Canada
