You definitely feel my pain haha. It's really nice though to start clean with a blank canvas. The larger shop space just takes so much more time to fit out because every task takes so much longer to do.
I am also making a shop in a barn, it's a lot of work... But I am not moving all my belongings all the way to Massachusetts! That looked like a lot of work. Great video!
As someone who has had to move a lot of large heavy objects by himself in his lifetime, job well done! I wish I had that lift a whole lot of times! Good luck in the new shop! One of these days I’ll get a little shop set up and when I do, I hope I can be a fraction as organized as you are!
Just came across your channel from Instructables, glad I did. You have a wonderful channel. You are a clever editor and I love the shots where you seem to multiply. You have gained a new subscriber. Keep broadcasting!!
Future note: Get a mover that has a liftgate truck. Or sell your stuff "Jackman Works Fire Sale! Signed editions of my tools@auction!" ... I sold off much of my tools prior to move. I got to get new ones (or bigger ones). LPT: use storage bins (e.g. Global Storage Hinged shipping storage bins) that have finger/lids that fold over for stacking-storage. They protect against insects, water and you can put locks/wireties. Plus they last! And I've reused for other storage items, or put a bow on it, with gifts inside! One can be sad when moving but another lesson was after the move, I realized much could have been discarded and replaced with something local, saving moving space and time. Besides, what significant other doesn't want to buy new towels or other new home upgrades! 👍🏻 Best of luck! Look forward to new stuff from Mass (hole) land! Caws dat is wawt we caw dem Mass Drivers...pawk da caw in da pawkin lawt!
The reason I haven't done any of that stuff is mostly $$$ (but also time). Whenever you sell a tool and buy a new one, you almost always lose money in the process, plus it takes time to both sell and buy and by just moving everything with me there is less time where I'm in limbo without a shop. I think that's just personal preference though! But I'm cheap and cardboard is free haha
3 big things from your video. 1. Congrats on moving into the “Baahn”. 2. You know you move a lot if you still have all the original boxes your tools came in. 3. Loved the pallet inception.
Did this same thing last year from Wyoming to southern Indiana. The shop came in a 26' U-haul while the house came in an Atlas Van Lines semi. We loaded/unloaded the shop while Atlas did the rest, but I am much older than you. Nonetheless I feel your pain. Soon the space will be yours and all else will be good again.
Congratulations on surviving the move! I will learn first hand the pain come spring. Not looking forward to the process! But I don’t think I will be as humble as u with it! Lol
Congratulations on a successful move. Looking forward to more videos in your new shop. Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. You and your wife make a great team!
This is great! I moved from a small 13x21one car garage that I started in, into a small portion of my fiances garage, and now into my dream shop that is 32x35... AND... it's two stories. It is attached to my house. Half of the upstairs is personal/family. The other half has a studio where my computer and such lives (clean room) and behind that is a storage room, currently with lumber, furniture refurb projects and a finish area. I love my space and it's always changing. I love how your miter station has the modular pieces that can be moved much more easily and reconfigured. I think it's still very important to use your space wisely because it can get ate up fast. I've been here since May 2019. And it's changed soooo many times. I look forward to seeing how you use your new space.
Dude just from what I’ve seen of the new shop I can only imagine what that view in the morning with a cup of coffee!! Yes sir man congratulations again. Now stop moving!!
Deeeeeep down I want to believe that your music choice for this video was inspired by my latest video (because you're a huge fan, naturally) but in reality, I realize it's just a cool tune from Epidemic lol Love your humor man and I'm stoked to see what sort of Jackman-sized stuff you'll create in your new Jacked-Up Jackman-sized Jackman shop!
I've moved once in 17 years, and it was brutal, I can't imagine having to do it as much as you do, especially with a full shop. But thanks for showing us it can be done, and the benefits of being organized, Adam Savage and his no drawer philosophy be damned. Thanks for another entertaining video Paul, you're editing skills are awesome.
I’ve been watching the updates on Instagram and it’s been really cool to see your progress, you make really cool things in such a fun way thanks and have a good day
Funny how now both of the craftsman I watch on youtube are both moving to much better shops about the same time. Both have been marvels of using limited space, now we can see what having more space can do. Regardless, it's not the space, it's the craftsman's skills that counts!
Howdy jack. Matthew ceremona has a little suprise for you. Just uploaded a new video about his new property, scroll to 2:50. Greatings from Belgium 🇧🇪.
Jackman Works hey I am a recent subscriber and a new woodworker just getting into the trade. I love your videos. I came across this one and was surprised and thrilled to see you moving and using U-Pack. That is because my nine-to-five job is working for the U-Pack corporate office! We thank you so much for using the service and hope everything went well! And keep up the great woodworking videos, I love them!
I'm active duty, and I only just ammasted my wood shop while stationed at my current location. Watching this video has given me SO much anxiety about my next move...props to you for thinking ahead.
Hey, are you related to This Old Tony by any chance? Maybe a brother from another mother, a twin neither of you realised you had or a sense of humour that spans time and space (T.O.T is a time traveller you know, so maybe you have the gene as well)... You two should be in the same room so we, your fans, know you are two different people. Your content and dry wit is what makes you (and he) so worth watching (and for the end results), but the comedy whilst you do what you do... is simply BRILLIANT.
ugh. I hate moving. But I love your new shop space. And we were military also and I've always wondered about u-pack so nice to see how you used them and your experience. Thanks for making the video.
I’m in the process of designing and then building a modular desk. I would have never thought of using wheels to make it easier to move stuff around and reorganize. Thanks for the great idea! I often get bored of my setup and reorganize it every few months. wheeled desk segments will make my life MUCH easier!
Last time I moved, it was only about 4 blocks. Still have to appreciate the efficiency of this system. I guess practicing helps too. New shop is looking sweet!
We move 3 years ago(purchased a shop with attached house) ,it was just my wife, my self and a U-Haul truck , I don't see how you deal with it, it's a pain in backside and we only moved a mile
I built a barn shaped dedicated shop after my wife kicked my out of our sawdust filled basement shop. Having a dedicated building is great, thanks honey. looking forward to watching your progress and hoping I never have to move
You forgot the bags of cement and bricks to increase the weight of the trailer. ;-) I know they pay you based off the weight when you PCS. Probably the only good thing about it
So, I always thought your shop was so much bigger than that. I've been watching you for a few years, and very inspiring, but now I'm rethinking of redoing my entire setup. Congrats on the move.
I've been a mover for 45yrs. You did a great job. Hats off! Next move get a lift gate trailer they have some that go halfway up in the trailer and may help getting things down from the barn.

I obviously do not feel your pain, although I have felt similar pain when moving the belongings of my family, and I must say it looks like you have a bigger shop. How many square feet do you have in your new shop. I hope to see a video one you get it all set up and running. Good luck and take care.
Great schools, great economy, great scenery, where we are there is plenty of space but we're also close to everything, great food, you get all the seasons where summer is mild and winter is bearable. The military tells us where to go, but this is a great spot!
Man that was a ton of work. I don't envy you at all Paul. Glad you guys made it through the move and got their safely. Based on what you were able to do in that garage, I'm looking forward to the enormity of the projects you are able to put out in that new shop.
First floor is just dirt, plus we're right on the water and want everything elevated up onto the second floor for whenever the inevitable hurricane passes through.
I feel your pain, Paul. We moved 6 months ago after 42 years in the same house. We're still unpacking. Best of luck and best wishes in the new place. Was that your supervision watching the trailer pull away? Bill

What kind of psycho saves the original boxes for their tools?
Let's be honest, it's right on brand for me
I can understand the boxes, but keeping the polystyrene inserts is definitely cray cray..

Moving is never fun. I'm glad you got it down to a science. Can't wait to see the upcoming builds Paul!

So how much fun is it going to be to take all of that back downstairs for the next PCS?
Let's not talk about that... although, I'll have gravity on my side then and can just throw everything out of the upstairs door
