It's done!... Well our stuff is here at least. Lots of work left to do to get the shop functional again but if feels good to have everything here safe and sound at our apartment. The new shop is a 14'x25' garage attached to our townhouse apartment. It's going to be super tricky to run a production shop out of this space because I lost 50sf, but I'm up to the challenge! Shop tour and many builds coming up from the new shop - you guys are going to love it!! Let me know what you want to see in the new space. U-Pack did an awesome job making their portion of the move surprisingly stress free. They genuinely come highly recommended from me for your next move and I plan on using them again in a few years for our next move!
(I was compensated by U-Pack for this video, but the opinions expressed here are entirely my own.)

What projects do you guys want to see in the new shop?!
good for you!
Jackman Works the project i want to see is a giant 20 feet beer party table with benches, German style. Larger is ok too.
How to fit in a space like that. I’m always complaining about space, yet I see craftsmen like you fit all you equip. into space like that.
Done that more times than I want to think about. you sure did it the easy way. I like it.
Smarter not harder ;)
Yeah any way you slice it, moving a wood shop even that small is a headache.
Still, your current shop seems like a nice place to work as compared to the previous "underground" workspace...It's a shame you are moving again so soon after just settling in...
By current, I mean the shop you are moving out from ...
Anything will be better than the basement! :D
hey, I resemble that remark!
I'm watching intently! Can't wait to see how you set up the new shop. I'm a little stuck in where I'm putting everything right now so I'm looking for inspiration. Or, ya know, you could just come down and we can rearrange my shop :)
Just wait until mine gets set up first, then it's a date! ;)
Good luck mate, my shop is tiny like your own so interested on how you make the most of it.
i thought you would be moving to a much bigger garage / shop... i hope you don't annoying and nosy neighbors.. civilians suck.
I was hoping so too, but that's just not going to happen in DC unless I commute an hour outside the city every day and I'm not going to do that. Just wait for 2020 though, changes coming! :)
I hate moving... So much work. I'm exhausted just watching your video and my back hurts. :D
Good luck in your new town. Can't wait to see how you'll organize the new shop.
Welcome to the area. Im in College Park. Hope you like traffic :(.... Once your settled some of us locals can get you pointed to the places you need for the craft. Really depends what part of the beltway you are near cause getting around it is a bitch...
Good Job with all of that stuff!!! I love your videos and I cant wait to see more of them from Washington D.C. Looking forward to your next update video!! Anyway keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Evan!! I'll be sure to post as often as I can
Tango a la cleat francaise pour le pic bois.
Shop rather small, Unsubscribe.
Hang on, i have a smaller shop, need to see you figure it out ;)
Moving sucks. Looks like I might be moving again. 3rd time in 2 years. Feela pain.
Look forward to seeing what you do with the new shop, especially want to see where you put the shop waterfall.
Dude, forget about the shop waterfall, check out the new shop river!! ;)

Jackman Works sweet! Probably be easier to fit your yacht in there.
Jackman Works time to build a plywood boat , with electric power plant?
Yeah! Biggest part for finding a new home was a home for the yacht -- non-negotiable!
Congrats on your move! I lived in D.C. for over 10 years and loved it but ultimately got frustrated with the traffic! Currently in Georgia and loving the slower pace! Like the vlogs and looking forward to watching anything Jackman Works!
Awesome, thanks so much man!! It's definitely something to get used to compared to Rhode Island where everyone knows everyone :)
I feel your pain - 15 military moves in 23 years. We did a do it yourself move once - ONLY once. that was enough. Looking forward to scenes from the new shop Paul.
Well we've done it twice now, so we have you beat there --- I have no intentions of doing 15 moves however!! haha
You must be a tetras master.... and you seem to be super organized. Well done.
What, no "How to build a shipping container" video?? :P
WTF, moving already.
DUDE! Welcome to DC. I grew up in Alexandria and Fairfax County, DC was my playground. It is alternatively an awesome and hellish place to live. Pretty much like anywhere, I guess.
Recommendation: when you get the chance, hop across the Potomac and check out The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria. It's more artsy than crafty so it doesn't dovetail perfectly with your work, but I can see some resonance there.
Awesome, I'll have to check it out!! I've been spending lots of time exploring Alexandria so far but haven't found that place yet.
As this was a military PCS, why did you do all that work? In all the moves I made in the military, it was completely paid for by US Gov. and performed by contract movers. Maybe things have changed now. Regardless, excellent video on your successful relocation. Looking forward to the shop re-do videos.
There's a couple options for us, either the full contracted move or a DITY move where we move ourselves and they pay us back a certain amount per pound. We're always over our allowable weight thanks to the shop so we'd end up paying $$ out of pocket for the extra weight with the contracted move so the DITY move is the way to go :)
I'm going through this right now, but with a forklift, palettes & a 16 ft liftgate truck. Because, VMC which weighs 4000lbs and a smaller mill & lathe, plus the usual shop junk....
ohhhhhh no thank you! :D
Good luck in your new home and shop!
If you and yours feel like exploring, Leesburg, Virginia is about 45-60 min west of D.C. There is a really nice Woodcraft out there.
Thanks man, I'll add that to the list of places to check out!
I saw you on Reddit today with your Bootprint piece....fast forward 6 hours and I'm browsing craigslist for a workshop and the owner linked to your instagram account. Crazy
Haha too cool. I definitely miss this place!! It was the perfect fit for me
Crazy, I thought about visiting your shop as most of my family is in the Providence area and I visit often. I live in Montgomery county, MD. Is there a public story behind the reason for your move? And is it literally in DC or just near?
Yep, actually in DC! My wife is in the Coast Guard and got transferred here. So not really in DC by choice! haha
You guys must be awesome at Tetris. Looks like quite the undertaking. Good luck in the new shop
haha check out the Insta photos, I was on my game that week!!
Jackman Works nnn
Welcome to DC. You will loose your mind over the humidity. You no doubt have experienced two days of rain. Good luck to you.
Sorry, but i couldnt finish. My own moving pains are too fresh in my mind. I'll add it to my watch later. Once I've recovered I'll come back to it.
I totally won't hold that against you!! haha
I'm exhausted just looking at that.
Those containers are the only way to go. A few years ago my wife and I moved and had no overlap, we would have had to keep all our stuff in a truck for a week. Great video Paul.
I hate to move my shop, but I am old, retired and this is my last move. OK, so I have said this numerous times, maybe this will be the last time. Only you could make a moving video interesting! Great job, keep them coming.
Thanks!! I can honestly say I don't look forward to doing it again haha
great job, sir
Just subscribed to your site. 1. I'm in UK but appreciate our Brothers across the shore. 2. You and your family seem good guys. 3. Your the kind of guy I admire. So from across the pond. GL Chap
Let me know when you're in DC. I'd be happy to help you get set up and introduce you to a couple of the turning clubs in the area if interered. Seriously, I'm not a RUclips stalker! Shoot me an email. Chris
The real question becomes... How many hours did you spend playing Tetris as a kid?!
more than I'm proud to admit!
I don't know your video was moving and left me empty at the same time I don't know lol.
ok may have answered and or may be a dumb questions but why in hell would you move from that amazing awesome place vs DC :(
It's a good question! haha
Wife is in the Coast Guard and she got restationed so we had to go. Going to DC not by choice :D
Happy for you! Don't know if I have the energy to do that anymore! Best of luck getting set up. Later, Murph
Good luck in your new duty station. I started watching you about a year ago. I thought you were retired. That is a heck of a thing to have to move the house and the shop.
I am a contractor at the Coast Guard Academy in food service. If you ever make it up to the academy stop by all hands and say hi.
My wife is in the Coast Guard actually, only been in for a couple of years so we're just getting started! haha
We may end up in New London one of these times, it was on the list this time but got snagged up.
Welcome to the DC area.
So you're saying all i need is a forklift, and possibly a truck, and i can help myself to beautifully concentrated droplets of people's lives just sitting in parking lots? Shweet!
Great planning and execution.
Hope you enjoy DC..i lived there for 8 years and could never get in to it..way to much going on...fireworks were awesome tho. Thanks for sharing..take care and good luck.
Getting there ...can't wait to see the new shop all together.
Over the years I've moved house 15 times and the workshop half a dozen times I know the pain. At present my workshop is stored in a 40' container as I need to build a new workshop at my house here in the UK. Good luck getting settled
Just watched and enjoyed a video about moving... I hate moving!
I love moving! I'm also a liar ;)
Dude! Your new shop is the same size as mine! Haha and mine's still in the process of being set up really. Excited to see what you make of the new space. I'm sure I'll get a lot of inspiration.
Jackman, You don't have room for all those tools. You can store them at my house. Seriously though, that is a great way to move. I love it. Had no idea this was a thing.
Thanks man, I might take you up on that offer ;)
What a pain in the poo pipe that must have been.
Its bad enough when you move everything out of a home. It's like moving a "2nd home" when you have to pack and move your shop too. Good Luck Paul in the new space, you make the art of moving look easy.
congrats man!
Moving is a pain. Moving your shop must be an absolute royal pain.... Slick editing must make it look easier than it really is. lol
Glad to see you'll be back in the sawdust soon!
so a pity about the old beautiful workshop😞 much joy in the new building😀
Yeah I'm going to seriously miss that spot :(
Moving videos always make me sad for some reason, but I really enjoyed this. Congrats (I hope). The new place looks nice.
I'm unsubscribing, I only liked you for your shop. ;)
I honestly wouldn't blame you, I want to unsubscribe from myself because of it!!
Welcome to the DC area! Thanks for sharing your moving and organization processes. Looking forward to your take on the smaller shop footprint.
Oh, YEAH, classic Casio G-Shock. My old man had one for YEARS.
I bet you are going to miss the water feature to you shop
Anacostia-Bolling? We used to live on Turret Ct...
ha! I guess that garage looks pretty familiar then. We're on Tiller.
Nice Video!!!
Moving is exciting & sad all at the same time. Glad to see that your in a house instead of an apartment. Looking forward to future vids of your new shop.
Congrats!!!
Good luck with the new set up! Will be interested to see what you do in a single car garage space.
Definitely! I'm not excited for the smaller space, but we'll see what comes from it!
Sir, welcome to DC! I just found your channel, and noticed some interesting projects. I look forward to seeing what you have in plans. Enjoy the new shop!
Good luck, every time you move you make the next shop/lab better
I moved my shop about 6 years ago... should be done setting it back up in a few more years. 😆
Well I just moved my shop a year ago and had it organized just in time for this move!! :D
Good lock on new home
Best, most awesome moving video. you moved like a champ. did a good job of telling this story, loved the video
Everyone else has moved, I think it's your turn Rod! haha
Beast! Let me know if you're ever up near Pittsburgh
Totally! I'd love to make a trip down there while I'm closeish.
Good luck in the new shop.
Why didn't the military at least cover the move of your residence? I'm an AF brat and they always came in, packed, and moved our stuff.
They did, but we do a DITY move instead of the government procured move because we are always over weight thanks to the shop (by like twice our allowance!). If we let them move us we have to pay for anything over our allowance. (ugh)
Jackman Works ah! Didn't think about the weight of your tools. Makes sense. Thanks for the response.
Nicely done. Best wishes in new space!
Thanks Gib!
Moving sucks
Great video.
quand on a une chérie aussi courageuse on avance bien dans la vie et pour la crea c'est énorme comme soutien, tu fais du super travail, j apprécie beaucoup et surtout tu me redonne de l’énergie pour me remettre au boulot hahahahaha rire !!
when we have such a brave sweetheart we make good progress in life and for the crea it's huge support, you do great work, I appreciate a lot and especially you give me the energy to get back to work hahahahaha laugh! !
Wife or yourself in the service? Reason why you move so much?
Wife is in the Coast Guard, she ranked up so we had to get relocated.
bonne chance de france.....
Congrats on what appears to be a safe and efficient move!!!...can't wait to see the new shop come together!!!
Getting my stuff from there to here was basically the only thing that went right! haha Seems to be settling down now, just itching to finally start building stuff.
what base did they move you to? my wife and i have been at Andrews AFB for 2 years now and dc isn't to bad but i still haven't been able to find a great reliable source of pallets like i can back up north.
Nice! My wife is stationed at Coast Guard Headquarters and we're living at JBAB. How do you like Andrews, seems like a decent base from what I've seen. I've already been testing my sourcing for pallets down here even though I don't need them yet :D
Andrews is nice but i think JBAB is a nicer base we use to live near it. this area takes some getting use to its nothing like good old New England. me and my wife are from north east CT so we miss that area but were growing to love northern VA. I also know of some good Amish saw mills down in southern MD.
Welcome to the area. I've been here for 25 years and it's always good to see new artists in the area.
you make that look way too easy! looking forward to your new shop come together!
Can't wait to see the next part of your adventure!
Wish you luck in D.C. buddy🤘🏻
Man, I wish I did my back to back moves that way! Good luck in DC!
Sweet, right up the road in Baltimore, good luck
how did the forklift guy get up there with the forklift?? wtf
Magic! ;)
The forklift lifts itself up by the forks, it pretty awesome
That's my neck of the woods! Welcome to the rat race!
Reminded me when I moved from France to Japan with two suitcases and back from Japan to France with a 18 feet long container. I hope you won't have to move again too soon.
Ohhhh no thank you!! I don't even want to think about the chaos of moving to a different country, just moving a few states over was bad enough! haha
The Redsmith all the different plugs...
Willem Kossen 110v in Japan 220v in France. But a good power adaptater and it's good to go 😊
Holy cats....what a drag, but those containers looked like they made it easier !
Totally a game changer!
Maybe we'll come to Chicago next time... ;)
2:52 (Puzzled) You say 'everything is on wheels, and there are 10 items, 2 contacting the ground. Then you say, 'well not everything', and 'most things'. There are 2 out of 10, and 2 are designed to be in contact with the ground. It is, in fact everything, or 2 out of 10, depending on how you classify any or all of them.
I cheat - miter saw station counts as 1 thing! Workbench, table saw, bandsaw, planer are all on wheels. :D
Great job done there. Someone must be expert on Tetris game :)
Can't wait to see whatever you do in the new shop.
Thanks James!
Such a sad video. I bloody hate moving.
Me too, but I'm starting to get used to it now :)
That's not a good thing hahaha
So many Makers are Moving this year. lol cool video edit Jackman!
oh they're all just copying me :D
Hey mate you probably don't want to go through that every year right 👍
I'd be happy with just every 2 years at this point ;)
Welcome to the Nations Capital!
Thanks Kevin! It's a super interesting place
congrats I seen you grow from a guy that collects pallet wood. to a guy that creates anything with reclaim wood. I look forward to your adventure. keep on doing what you love and post everything
James
Well I hope they have pallets in DC!! ;)
why all the Moving? your job location changes that much. After working the road for 20 years. I always liked having a stable home base. hope Your moving days are number. staying in one place makes life so much easyer.
Yeah, my wife's job location does unfortunately (military). I love being able to see new places, but moving a wood shop isn't the most fun experience haha
Glad you got all moved safe and sound. Can't wait for the next project.
Thanks again for the sticker Paul.
What did you use that small room in your shop for?
Just a small shared space with a fridge and microwave and some food
I show it better in the shop tour (kind of)
Great video! Will be keeping my eye out for your new shop setup ideas, how big is the new space?
This new one is 14'x25'
Whoa, wait! You just gave us the tour!
I wish from my hart to have a nice start over there!
Paul are you an SU alum or are you from Syracuse? We live about 10 miles from SU
